Tottenham are currently enduring a crisis in the centre-back department.

Ange Postecoglou was even forced to name a defensive duo of Archie Gray and Yves Bissouma during the 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth in December, both of whom are naturally central midfielders.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have been missing since the 4-3 defeat against Chelsea in December due to thigh injuries, while Radu Dragusin has struggled to shine in their absence.

Now – however – Tottenham fans think they have spotted another Van de Ven in the academy.

Tottenham fans are all saying the same thing about Pele Arganese-McDermott

Spurs appear to have cloned the Netherlands international in the form of Pele Arganese-McDermott.

The 19-year-old has got Tottenham fans talking on X (previously known as Twitter) after an U21 Premier League clash between Spurs and Norwich, in which he looks to move exactly like Van de Ven, who Ally McCoist thinks would start for Arsenal.

One Tottenham fan wrote: “Oi why does the #4 (Pele Arganese-McDermott) have the exact same gait as VDV.”

A second Spurs fan joked that Tottenham are cloning senior players amid the current injury crisis, posting: “Injury crisis so bad that we’re experimenting with cloning our injured players.”

Two other Tottenham fans commented on the footage, with both puzzled by how Arganese-McDermott is not Van de Ven.

One wrote “how is #4 NOT Van De Ven???” before another added “there’s no way that’s not VDV” – the similarities are uncanny, in all honesty.

A fifth Spurs supporter posted: “How does he have the EXACT same build.”

Last but not least, a sixth Tottenham fan wrote: “Number four looks like VDV? Close enough get him in the first team NOW!”

Who is Pele Arganese-McDermott?

Arganese-McDermott is relatively new to Tottenham.

The 19-year-old was in Luton Town’s Academy until 2021 before moving to Spurs in July 2022, and made a strong impression in N17 as he signed a professional contract just months later in September 2022.

Born in Marbella before moving to England at the age of four, Arganese-McDermott is eligible to represent either Spain or the Three Lions at international level.
