Tottenham have missed out on bargain signing which Fabio Paratici surely would have gone for

Some might say Tottenham Hotspur have endured somewhat of an underwhelming transfer window with only three real new signings made.

Ange Postecoglou has been handed the Premier League’s biggest transfer of the summer in the £65m signing of Dominic Solanke.

However, there is still room for improvement at Tottenham with just a matter of hours remaining in the window.

Tottenham are still believed to be looking for a late opportunity which could bolster their squad for what is going to be a busy season.

And there are still a number of players who could be moved on with Sergio Reguilon receiving interest from Besiktas.

However, there is one player who will not be joining Tottenham despite the club having shown an interest earlier in the window.

Tottenham set to lose out on Federico Chiesa

Earlier in the summer, Tottenham held talks with the agents of Federico Chiesa with the winger looking for a new club.

Thiago Motta made it clear Chiesa was not in the plans of Juventus for this season which has seen the Italy international on the hunt for an exit from Turin.

However, Chiesa has now agreed to join Liverpool with the Reds landing themselves an absolute bargain in a £10m deal.

For more than double the price, Tottenham have recently signing Wilson Odobert from Burnley.

It has to be said, Odobert did impress Heung-min Son on his Tottenham debut over the weekend as the youngster showed a lot of energy on the ball.

But for around half of the price spent on the 19-year-old, Spurs could have landed themselves an experienced winger who has been described as a ‘superstar‘.

Fabio Paratici would have landed Federico Chiesa for Tottenham

Over recent years, Tottenham have been able to scout the Italian top flight extremely well and that has largely been down to Fabio Paratici‘s involvement at the club.

The likes of Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Destiny Udogie – to name just a few – have all come from Paratici’s time at the club.

However, his ban from football means he is not legally allowed to be involved in Tottenham’s transfer negotiations.

But the Italian is still believed to be working to some extent in north London.

Johan Lange is now heading up the transfer side of things at Hotspur Way and the jury is certainly out when it comes to his work so far.

Given his connections at Juventus, it is difficult to imagine this would not have been a potential deal Paratici wouldn’t have been all over for Spurs.

Paratici signed Chiesa for Juventus

Having signed Chiesa for Juventus from Fiorentina, Paratici is clearly a big fan of the Italian who has had his injury issues.

The long-term could well prove that Odobert was the smarter choice from Spurs, but Chiesa – if he can stay fit – could certainly have provided Spurs with a seriously exciting signing this summer.

But if Chiesa does end up being a success for Liverpool, there will be one man in Paratici who will be rueing not being able to be in a position to sign him for Tottenham.
