Tottenham Hotspur do not want to be known as 'Tottenham'. According to 'The Athletic', the north London side have sent out an email to TV rights-holders around the world, asking them to solely use the names 'Tottenham Hotspur' or 'Spurs' when referring to the club.
In an email titled “Tottenham Hotspur Naming Update”, the Premier League side wrote: "Tottenham Hotspur have provided clarification regarding the club’s name. They have requested that the club are primarily known as Tottenham Hotspur, with Spurs being the preferred short version. The club have requested that they are not referred to as Tottenham."
'Sky Sports' have seemingly adhered to the club's request, with many noting subtle changes made to the graphics from Spurs' 1-0 win over Manchester United onward. During his pre-match press interviews, Ange Postecoglou is no longer referred to as 'Tottenham head coach' but instead as 'Tottenham Hotspur head coach'.
Spurs feel that 'Tottenham' does not represent the name of the club, but rather of the area in north London and have established it as club policy not to call themselves just 'Tottenham' since 2011. However, their request to broadcasters comes after a "remastered brand identity" unveiled in November.
