Tottenham Hotspur appear to be exploring their options between the sticks, with reports now claiming the club are keeping tabs on Yahia Fofana – just days after Guglielmo Vicario’s horror show against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Guglielmo Vicario had an afternoon to forget against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

The Italian goalkeeper was well below par, with costly errors leading to two of Wolves’ goals in a chaotic display that summed up Tottenham’s defensive frailties on the day.

Vicario received a damning 2/10 in our full-time match ratings – and while such performances have been few and far between, it highlighted a weakness that’s lingered under the surface – his dealing of set pieces. Of course, Vicario will no doubt be eager to swiftly move on from that performance.

Tottenham scouting Yahia Fofana after Guglielmo Vicario’s Wolves blunder

However, according to TBR Football, following Vicario’s clanger-filled outing, Tottenham Hotspur are now actively scouting Yahia Fofana – the Ivory Coast international who has been a standout performer for Angers in France.

The 24-year-old, born in Paris, has been instrumental for Angers this season, putting in a string of commanding performances that have helped them steer clear of relegation trouble in Ligue 1.

Spurs are said to be well aware of Fofana’s quality, and with the likelihood of questions beginning to mount over Vicario’s long-term status as first-choice, the club are understood to be keeping a close eye on the Ivorian’s development.

The publication reports that Tottenham representatives were present during Angers’ 2-0 win over Montpellier at the weekend – a match that saw Fofana keep yet another clean sheet.

Fofana attracting Premier League interest beyond Spurs

Spurs aren’t the only Premier League side monitoring Yahia Fofana, with Manchester United also reportedly keen, as both of their current goalkeepers have struggled for consistency.

Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brentford and Nottingham Forest are also believed to have watched the Angers man in recent weeks, with his profile rapidly rising among English clubs.

According to TBR Football, BlueCo, who own both Chelsea and Strasbourg, are also keeping tabs on Fofana.

While Chelsea publicly maintains they’re not in the market for another goalkeeper, there’s noise behind the scenes about potential alternatives.

Fofana could also be of interest to Strasbourg if they decide to move on from Djordje Petrovic, currently on loan from Stamford Bridge.
