One on-loan Tottenham man pulls out of international duty due to an injury after being forced off in the first-half of his last league appearance at the weekend.

Tottenham youngster’s impressive turnaround

Ashley Phillips had to patiently wait for his opportunity under new Stoke City coach Narcis Pelach, who took over at the Bet365 Stadium back in September.

After initially being frozen out, the centre-back has managed to win over the Spaniard and has started the last five matches for Potters across all competitions as part of the objective to get regular first-team football as part of his loan spell from Spurs.

His impressive displays for the Championship side saw the Tottenham stopper called up to England’s Under-20s squad.

Phillips was set to feature for England’s Under-20s in their upcoming clashes against Germany and Poland over the next week.

However, StokeSentinial have now confirmed that the central defender has now pulled out of the squad due to an ‘unspecified injury’.

The 19-year-old has returned to Stoke, where he will spend the next week rehabilitating as he faces a race against time to be fit for the club’s trip to Loftus Road to take on QPR on 23rd November.

What injury does Ashley Philips have?

Neither the FA nor Stoke have confirmed the nature of Phillips’ injury or provided any details on how long the defender will be out for.

However, it was almost certainly a shoulder problem, which forced the youngster off just ten minutes into Stoke’s 1-1 draw with Millwall in the Championship on Saturday.
