Tottenham are set to sign Lens centre-back Kevin Danso from under the noses of fellow Premier League side Wolves. The 26-year-old had reportedly been due at Molineux for a medical on a Sunday, having agreed personal terms with the club.
But that move has seemingly been scuppered just over 48 hours before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday night.
And now the Austrian international is expected to head to north London instead in a huge boost to Ange Postecoglou's squad.
According to the Telegraph, Danso has now agreed terms with Spurs and favours them over Wolves. That was despite the Midlands club launching a £16million bid last week before agreeing to a loan deal.
Coach Vitor Pereira is said to have been keen to make Danso his second January signing after Emmanuel Agbadou arrived from Reims for an initial £16 million. And the club appear to be shocked at the player's apparent change of heart.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also reported that the scheduled medical at Wolves has been cancelled with Spurs closing in on a deal with the Ligue 1 club. He wrote on social media that Daniel Levy and co had pulled off a "hijack."
Danso impressed for his country at Euro 2024 last summer, starting two of their four games. And he has previous Premier League experience, having played on loan for Southampton in the 2019/20 season.
He joined Lens from FC Augsburg the following year. And he's since gone to make 121 appearances for the French side, and has previously been linked with Roma.
Tottenham go to Brentford on Sunday, having struggled for centre-back cover this season. Teenage midfielder Archie Gray has been forced to fill in the unfamiliar role following injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

Ven de Ven did return for the Europa League win over Elfsborg on Thursday, only for Postecoglou to be hit with another defensive blow. Radu Draguisin limped off during the clash with his Aussie manager admitting the club would have to wait to find out the extent of the problem.
The issue has seen Spurs linked with late moves in the window for the likes of Chelsea's of Axel Disasi. But it now appears that Danso will fill the void at the expense of Wolves.
