Tottenham Hotspur crashed to a 6-3 defeat against Liverpool in the Premier League at the weekend.
The North London club were expected to produce a strong performance after wins over Manchester City and Manchester United in recent weeks. However, they were completely outplayed at home and the fans and the club hierarchy will be thoroughly disappointed with the result.
Naturally, there have been speculations surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s future at the club. Although Tottenham have shown improvement under the Australian manager, they have been quite inconsistent and they are likely to miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification once again.
However, former scout Mick Brown has revealed that Tottenham will remain patient with the manager and they are unlikely to pull the trigger on him any time soon. Furthermore, he added that Tottenham will look to back the manager in the transfer market when the window reopens in January.
Brown added that the results will need to improve dramatically or else the club hierarchy might run out of patience with Postecoglou and decide to pull the trigger in the coming months. It remains to be seen whether the Australian can get Tottenham’s season back on track.
Brown said to Football Insider: “People have started asking questions of him, and he’s not giving the answers they’re looking for.
“From what I understand, he’s not in any imminent danger of being sacked.
“They’ve got the nucleus of being a very decent side, and I accept they’ve got injury problems at the moment, but they’ve got to help themselves and adapt.
“They’ll back him in January and see if they can strengthen the squad, especially because of the injuries they’ve picked up.
“But if things continue as they are, you can’t be surprised if a decision is made.“
Tottenham have had major injury problems since the start of the season and they need more depth in the side. It will be interesting to see if they can bring the right additions over the next few weeks. Signing quality players in January will help them bounce back strongly and finish the season on a high.
