Tottenham Hotspur may not have European qualification in their sights as the Premier League returns this week but there is still plenty of pride to salvage for Ange Postecoglou, and the small matter of a shot at silverware in the Europa League.
It’s been an underwhelming second campaign for Postecoglou who, should he still be in a job next term, will have to find a marked improvement quickly. Daniel Levy has been patient with the Aussie and is expected to back the club financially this summer after an injury blighted 2024/25 campaign.
LondonWorld looks at the current transfer rumours swirling around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to see what a dream starting XI could look like next season should those current links come true.
Totteham Hotspur sell £45m man to fund Crystal Palace swoop
Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario
Defenders: Pedro Porro, Micky Van de Ven, Marc Guehi, Djed Spencer
There's not a shortage of goalkeeping options with Antonin Kinsky having come through the door in January. Guglielmo Vicario is the least of Postecoglou's worries and a confident number one.
There could be some changes in the ever-porous Spurs defence. The Aussie coach will put those frailties down to injuries, which is true, but the acquisition of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace would be an improvement - TBR Football reported over the weekend that Cristian Romero could be sold to a La Liga side for £45 million, with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid linked, and that money used to bring in Guehi.
Spurs breathe new life into midfield
Midfielders: James Maddison, Angel Gomes, Joao Gomes
Tottenham Hotspur fans are still yet to see the best of James Maddison but fresh blood around him in the centre of the park may help do that. Lille midfielder and England international Angel Gomes appears Premier League bound on a free transfer and Spurs lead that race ahead of West Ham. Meanwhile, GiveMeSport claimed last week that Joao Gomes at Wolves is a £50 million target for Postecoglou to add bite in that position.
Southampton teenager makes Tottenham Hotspur move
Wingers: Tyler Dibling, Mathys Tel
Striker: Dominic Solanke
Mathys Tel flip flopped between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in January but eventually elected on a loan move to Spurs from Bayern Munich. Postecoglou has made no secret of his desires to make that move permanent and a fully fit Dominic Solanke would allow Tel to move to the wing.
Southampton teenager Tyler Dibling was named a 'top target' for Spurs last week. The 19-year-old has sparkled in a rather unpolished Saints side this term and is expected to bounce back up to the Premier League instead of spending a season in the Championship next year.
