Sergio Reguilón was one of a handful of players Ange Postecoglou had told to pack their bags at the beginning of pre-season, having been deemed surplus to requirements.
While the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Emerson Royal were able to find new homes, the Spaniard did not manage to find a suitor. And now, having been out of action since the end of last season, the 27-year-old is willing to go the extra mile in an attempt to end his misery.
Sergio Reguilón inclined towards having his Tottenham contract terminated
As reported by Spanish outlet Ficherio, Tottenham left-back Sergio Reguilón could terminate his contract with the North London club in an attempt find new employers.
The Spain international has not been part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans since the latter arrived at the club last season. After spending last season on loan at Man United and Brentford, Reguilón was told by the Lilywhites to pack up his bags, though they failed to move him on.
Reguilón’s £53k-per-week contract expires in the summer, which if he were to give it up right away would allow him to join another club before the January transfer window. Sevilla are one of the few La Liga clubs reportedly willing to offer him a deal if he becomes a free agent, with Getafe also in the mix.
Desperate times, desperate measures
Reguilón wanted to move to a side playing European football in the summer, hoping his own pedigree would help him find someone.
Now, the situation is more dire. At 27, Reguilón cannot afford to be out of action for too long if he wants to continue playing. He’s in his prime years after all, and his stock will continue deteriorating at a rapid pace the longer he remains on the sidelines.
