Tottenham Hotspur have hinted James Maddison could return to the starting line-up against Manchester City after excelling in the reverse fixture.

Maddison scored twice in eight minutes when Spurs won 4-0 at City in late November. However, the midfielder more recently dropped to the bench against Ipswich Town despite scoring the only goal in the 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

He did, though, come on as a substitute and assist Tottenham's third goal to restore their two-goal advantage in East Anglia. After barely playing 90 minutes across two games since returning from a calf injury, a second start could now be forthcoming.

Spurs featured Maddison in their matchday graphic this morning, using a photo of him celebrating with Son Heung-min. That followed the player posting an individualised version on his Instagram story hours earlier.

Guglielmo Vicario, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel are also in the club's one, which appears across their social media accounts. That trio have started the last two matches, with Danso and Tel featuring in all four games since signing for Spurs.

They also followed Maddison in sharing individual matchday graphics on their Instagram stories on matchday morning. The Spurs matchday graphic includes four City players: Ederson, Jack Grealish, Josko Gvardiol and Phil Foden.

Ederson, Foden and Gvardiol have started their last four matches, but Grealish has been an unused substitute in their previous two games. The main decision for Pep Guardiola to make is around Erling Haaland, who has not featured in either of their last two matches.
