A depleted Tottenham defence will attempt to keep out one of the Premier League's most in-form attackers when Newcastle United head to north London on Saturday.

Alexander Isak played a starring role once more as the Magpies beat a poor Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford on December 30, ensuring Eddie Howe's team ended the calendar year on a run of five straight wins in all competitions.

Spurs were held to a 2-2 draw by Wolves last time out and have only won three of 13 matches since early November. They are eight points and six places behind Newcastle ahead of this fixture — one in which Ange Postecoglou really needs a positive result amid the scrutiny of his methods.

Tottenham vs. Newcastle lineups, predicted starting 11, team news

Spurs' injury concerns were compounded by the loss of Destiny Udogie to a hamstring injury and a setback to Ben Davies' recovery during Christmas week. With Rodrigo Bentancur missing his game due to suspension, Postecoglou's defensive options are looking severely limited.

They will at least have Djed Spence back from a ban, while it is hoped that both Davies and striker Richarlison will be available at some point in January, even if this game comes too soon.

Tottenham predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Forster (GK) — Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence — Bissouma, Sarr — Johnson, Kulusevski, Son — Solanke

Injured: Davies, Odobert, Richarlison, Romero, Udogie, Van de Ven (all hamstring), Vicario (ankle)

Suspended: Bentancur (yellow-card accumulation)

Fabian Schar is banned for the visit to north London after receiving a fifth yellow card of the season in the win at Man United. Kieran Trippier is also a doubt after suffering some discomfort during the match, but otherwise, Eddie Howe does not have any further concerns after that game.

Sven Botman, Emil Krafth and goalkeeper Nick Pope could all make their comebacks in January, but Jamaal Lascelles and Callum Wilson will likely be out a little longer.

Newcastle predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Dubravka (GK) — Livramento, Kelly, Burn, Hall — Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton — Murphy, Isak, Gordon

Injured: Botman (knee), Krafth (shoulder), Pope (knee), Lascelles (knee), Trippier (muscle, doubt), Wilson (hamstring)

Suspended: Schar (yellow-card accumulation)
