Tottenham Hotspur hope to sign Tyler Dibling for a much lower asking price than Southampton are demanding for the winger at the moment, but the Lilywhites have to battle one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League to land the teenager.

It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Tottenham have already held talks with Tyler Dibling, who the Lilywhites have established as their top summer target.

With the Saints now on the verge of going down, a few clubs may perhaps be sensing an opportunity to swoop for the winger.

However, it emerged last week that Southampton had put a £100m price tag on Dibling, leaving Tottenham and the 19-year-old’s other suitors extremely frustrated.

Football Insider now say that it is not just Tottenham, but also Manchester City who are extremely keen on winning the race for Tyler Dibling this summer.

The report says that Spurs enquired about the teenager during the January window and their interest has never gone away.

However, neither the Manchester club nor the North London side are ready to pay the £100m demanded by Southampton for Dibling.

Both sides are said to be hopeful that they can land the England Under-21 international for a much lower fee, given that he has just two years left on his contract at St Mary’s.

How much is Daniel Levy willing to pay for Dibling?

Football Insider say that a fee of around £50m or £60m is seen as ‘more realistic’ by Tottenham for Dibling. Even that kind of outlay would make the winger one of the Lilywhites’ most expensive acquisitions of all time.

Interestingly, the publication adds that Tottenham’s longstanding interest in the Saints academy graduate could give them an advantage over Man City in the transfer race.
