Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been impressed with one young Southampton defender’s performances this season and they are one of several clubs plotting a move for the player when the transfer window opens in June.
It has been a disastrous campaign for Southampton who look destined to go straight back down to the Championship. The Saints currently find themselves rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, 13 points away from safety.
There are already clubs circling some of the club’s best young talent, with reports over recent weeks revealing that Tyler Dibling is on the wishlist of Spurs as well as other top sides.
It has now been revealed that the Lilywhites and a host of other clubs also have their eye on a centre-back, who has impressed in his first season at the South Coast.
Tottenham one of several clubs circling Taylor Harwood-Bellis
This report comes from TBR Football, who claim that Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ displays at the back for Ivan Juric’s men have piqued the interest of several big hitters.
The 23-year-old moved to St Mary’s from Manchester City last summer and has been a regular in the Saints backline this term, with 24 league appearances to his name so far.
Even though Harwood-Bellis has been part of a leaky defence, which has conceded 46 goals this season, Spurs, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Everton, Brighton and West Ham have all been impressed by his displays.
MORE SPURS STORIES
The outlet says that the young centre-back will be part of an exodus from Southampton in the summer, with the player even changing his agent recently in preparation for a transfer.
Man City clause may complicate transfer pursuit
It is revealed that Harwood-Bellis, who made his England debut back in November, is keen to be a part of the Three Lions squad for next year’s World Cup and is thus expected to push for a transfer.
However, it is pointed out that when Man City sold the youngster to Southampton in a £20m deal last summer, they not only inserted a 25 per cent sell-on clause but also a buy-back clause to the agreement.
It is unclear how much City’s buy-back clause is worth or whether Pep Guardiola’s men plan on activating it at the end of the season.
