Tottenham Hotspur showed a keen interest in signing a Serie A forward in January, but a new report suggests that a deal for the player will be a lot harder to pull off this summer.

There could be some wholesale changes to Tottenham’s forward line this summer as reports indicate that Heung-min Son’s 10-year spell at the club could come to an end, while rumours also suggest that Richarlison could be on his way out of Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur will also lose one more body in attack as Timo Werner’s loan spell ends this summer, which is why the Lilywhites have been backed to add reinforcements to their forward line.

Last month, sources from Italy claimed that Spurs are plotting a move for Lazio winger Gustav Isaksen, who has been in fine form this season, with six goals and five assists to his tally so far.

The report suggested that Lazio may be open to cashing in on the 23-year-old to fund a move for Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa, and there has now been a fresh update on the Denmark international’s future.

Tottenham failed with a move for Gustav Isaksen in January

A report in Il Messaggero has now claimed that both Tottenham and Celtic pushed forward with a move for Gustav Isaksen in the January window.

It is revealed that those two clubs were ‘pushing to sign the 23-year-old on loan’ after the versatile winger’s entourage had held a meeting with Lazio about his future.

Olympiacos also came forward and unlike Spurs and Celtic, they were willing to include an option to buy, but Lazio did not sanction a deal mid-season sale of the attacker.

Gustav Isaksen will be more expensive this summer

Il Messaggero describes the January window as a ‘sliding doors’ moment for the Dane after he was briefly put in the shop window by Lazio.

Since then, Isaksen’s impressive performances have made him an important player in Marco Baroni’s set-up, with the outlet alleging that the attacker’s value has doubled over recent months.

While the winger is expected to be a sought-after target for multiple sides this summer, the suitors will have to pay a premium to get the player out of Stadio Olimpico.
