Tottenham appear to be at the forefront in the race to sign Crystal Palace’s talented midfielder, Eberechi Eze.
According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Spurs have made significant progress in their pursuit of the England international, outpacing interest from Manchester City.
Tottenham’s interest in Eze has been persistent and genuine.
The club has already taken notable steps, including inviting Eze’s representatives to Premier League games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium several times last season.
Eze, valued at £60 million, is seen as a key target for Spurs to bolster their attacking options.
Despite having three years left on his contract with Crystal Palace, which runs until June 2027, Tottenham are reportedly prepared to meet his release clause. Additional add-ons could push the deal up by another £8 million.
Eze’s performance last season was impressive, particularly considering he recovered from a month-long muscle injury.
He scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 27 Premier League appearances, showcasing his potential impact on the Tottenham squad.
While Manchester City have also shown interest in Eze, their pursuit is less immediate.
City’s potential move hinges on the future of Kevin De Bruyne, giving Spurs a clearer opportunity to secure Eze’s services.
Crook said:
“They’re keen on Eze as well. I reported that on the transfer notebook a few weeks ago. Tottenham’s interest is genuine, but they need to shift players on.
I would say that Tottenham’s interest is more advanced (than City’s) in terms of this summer. With City, it would depend on De Bruyne leaving and we don’t think that will happen this summer, probably more likely next.”
As the Lilywhites finalise their squad for the upcoming season, Eze’s addition would inject creativity and flair into their attacking lineup.
Tottenham fans remain hopeful that the club can secure this promising signing, further strengthening their team for the season ahead.
