Westerlo vice-president Hasan Cetinkaya has spoken about his hopes of hanging onto Luka Vuskovic beyond the end of the season and has made a very interesting revelation about Tottenham’s plans for the 18-year-old.
Tottenham signed Luka Vuskovic back in September of 2023, but this summer will be the first time that he sets foot in Hotspur Way since Brexit rules do not allow players to join English clubs until they turn 18.
The teenager has surpassed all expectations on loan at Westerlo this season, establishing himself as a mainstay in the club’s backline and looking completely comfortable in the Belgian top-flight despite his lack of experience at the highest level.
Reports indicate that Tottenham are over the moon with Vuskovic’s progress, with the Premier League club convinced that they have a gem on their hands.
Huge admission made about Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic plans
Spurs face a big decision regarding the teenage centre-back this summer after assessing him in pre-season.
It remains to be seen if the North London club will fast-track Vuskovic into the first-team setup or whether to send him out on loan again so that he can continue playing regularly.
Westerlo vice-president Hasan Cetinkaya has now admitted that he is dreaming of re-signing Luka Vuskovic on loan but admitted that it is unlikely to happen as the youngster is in Tottenham’s plans for next season.
MORE SPURS STORIES
When asked if the centre-back’s stay at the club can be extended, Cetinkaya told Gazet van Antwerpen (as relayed by Voetbal Krant): “That is a dream, but I don’t think it will come true. Tottenham are very happy with the progress he has made here, and he will soon start preparing for the new season in London anyway.”
What Vuskovic has said about his future plans
Westerlo might want to extend the centre-back’s loan spell, but the youngster is certainly dreaming much bigger.
Speaking last month, Vuskovic confidently asserted that he feels ready to play for Tottenham, and based on how he has coped with the jumps he made so far, one would not rule out the possibility of the teenager hitting the ground running at N17.
The centre-back said: “Without being arrogant, I can say that I have shown sufficient qualities. Maybe I still have to work on my speed a bit more, although Mats Hummels shows that you can make a difference even without that speed.
“If I have made my debut at Tottenham, it will be fine. Is there a chance that I will stay at Westerlo? That has not been discussed yet.”
