Theo Walcott has admitted that he is a huge fan of an English winger who Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be determined to win the race for this summer, likening the youngster to a former Spurs legend as well as a current Premier League great.

It looks clear that Tyler Dibling is set to be one of the most sought-after players of the summer transfer window, now that Southampton’s relegation to the Championship has been confirmed.

The 19-year-old has tormented defences with his wide play all season and unsurprisingly, he is thought to be on the radars of several top sides.

This includes the Lilywhites, with a number of outlets claiming that Tottenham have already held talks with Tyler Dibling.

In fact, some sources have even stated that the Southampton winger is Spurs’ number one target and that Daniel Levy has made it his personal mission to win the race for Dibling.

It remains to be seen if Spurs will be able to get a deal for the Southampton man over the line, but Walcott is certainly a big fan of the winger.

The former Arsenal man, who himself came through the Saints youth set-up, admitted that the teenager reminds him of the likes of Tottenham legend Paul Gascoigne and Man City star Jack Grealish.

Walcott said about Dibling on the Premier League’s YouTube channel: “Do you know what, he’s the closest to a Gascoigne type or a Grealish type.

“He doesn’t just like to go forward, he likes to track back, the things I would despise, to be honest. He’ll probably end up getting a move sadly, but it’s the sign of an academy that has produced some really good players.”

Tottenham face an uphill task to land Tyler Dibling

While the media rumours were talking up Spurs’ chances of winning the race for the Southampton man until recently, the situation appears to have changed over the last few days.

Earlier this week, it was reported by Florian Plettenberg that Tottenham are now considered ‘outsiders’ in the race for Dibling.

The journalist explained that this was because Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig had entered the race for the 19-year-old, who is thought to be open to moving to Germany.
