Hummels left Dortmund under acrimonious circumstances after a massive fall out with former manager Edin Terzic.
Now Brighton are willing to take a chance on the centre-back as a free agent, according to transfer insider Florian Plettenberg.
Sky reporter Plettenberg claims that the Seagulls' new manager Fabian Hurzeler has already held a call with the 35-year-old about joining the club.
In the phone call, Hurzeler pitched his sporting project while the ex-Germany international spoke about his own ambitions.
The World Cup winner is reportedly weighing up whether to join Brighton against retiring from football.
Samu Omorodion latest
Chelsea are closing in on Atletico Madrid ace Samu Omorodion.
The Blues have been looking for a striker during the summer transfer window and Omorodion has been a top target.
This comes amid a stunning domino taking place at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
The West Londoners are set to complete a €42million (£36m) sale of Conor Gallagher.

Manchester City star Julian Alvarez's move to Atletico Madrid could reportedly be off due to personal terms.
Alvarez was expected to complete a move to Atletico in a transfer worth £81.5million.
The 24-year-old has two years left to run on his contract at the Etihad but is keen to gain more playing time.
However, the striker could find himself remaining in Manchester for the time being.

Sheffield United sign Souttar
Sheffield United have signed Leicester City defender Harry Souttar on a season-long loan deal.
The Australian international joined the Foxes from Stoke City in January 2023 however he failed to nail down a first team place under Brendan Rodgers and Enzo Maresca.
Souttar only managed 16 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions in 19 months at the King Power and was a bit part player during last season's Championship winning campaign.
Now the 25-year-old is hoping to kick-start his career with Chris Wilder's Blades.

Estevao Willian injured
Chelsea signing Estevao Willian has been injured, according to reports from Brazil.
The Blues landed Estevao from Palmeiras following a deal that could rise to £52million.
But the winger won't move to Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2025 when he turns 18 and thus he is still playing for Palmeiras.
According to Trivela, however, the Brazil Under-17 international appears to have been injured and not much is being said about it.
It is unknown if Estevao is undergoing intensive treatment, if he has already started to work with the ball or even if he can play.
Marc Guehi transfer details
Newcastle are holding talks with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window.
According to The Telegraph, negotiations are currently underway between the Magpies and Palace.
Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Guehi, who could cost a minimum of £65-70million.
According to The Times, Chelsea could pocket up to £12million if the centre-back completes a move for the kind of fee.
The Blues sold the England international to Palace for just £18m back in 2021 following two successful loan spells at Swansea.
A sell-on clause was added into the contract, meaning the West Londoners will pocket 20 per cent of any profit earned by Oliver Glasner's side for the sale.
Nasser Djiga bidding war
Crystal Palace are battling Arsenal for Red Star Belgrade defender Nasser Djiga, according to reports.
The Burkina Faso international shone as his club won a Serbian league and cup double last season.
Djiga, 21, is under contract until 2028. Red Star paid Swiss club Basel £2.6million for him after a successful spell on loan.
The Serbian giants now want £5m for the centre-back, who has won six caps for his west African home country.
He made 36 club appearances last term, scoring two goals and setting up two more.
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal showed interest in Djiga earlier this summer.
But reports in Burkina Faso now claim that Palace have made an approach for the powerful defender.
Sources close to Djiga told local media that Eagles chiefs have made an offer for him.
Lens are also credited with an interest in the defender, who previously played for their French rivals Nimes.
Karl Hein leaving
Arsenal keeper Karl Hein is on the verge of joining La Liga side Real Valladolid on loan.
The Spanish club have swooped in late to nab the Gunners' No3 after League One Charlton had shown an interest.

Wan-Bissaka is open to joining West Ham, but has no huge desire to leave United and is refusing to sell himself short.

And he could bank a huge signing-on fee by staying put and leaving on a free transfer next summer.
