Tottenham Hotspur turn their attention away from the Premier League for their next outing as they prepare for a Europa League clash against German side Hoffenheim.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are desperate to turn things around after just one win in their last 10 Premier League games. They sit 15th in the league, eight points above the relegation places.
They lost 3-2 to Everton in their last match, which sparked a lot of criticism for manager Postecoglou, who saw his side go 3-0 down to a team that haven’t scored more than one goal in a in their last six Premier League outings. However, their form in the Europa League this season has been better as they have won three out of their opening six matches, and sit just one place behind the top eight ‘automatic qualification’ places.
They play against a Hoffenheim side, who are 26th in the Europa League table, one point off the play-off places, so will be desperate to get something out of the game when they welcome Spurs to Germany. Postecoglou will be without up to 11 players for the game due to injury, meaning that he will likely have to make some tough selection decisions, and may have to play a couple of players out of position in order to fashion a starting XI.
There has been suggestions that the game could be postponed due to impending weather warnings for icy weather, however according to current forecasts, it looks as though it will clear up in the afternoon ahead of kick off at 5.45 pm GMT.
UEFA appoint the referee team for Spurs’ trip to Hoffenheim
UEFA have appointed Danish referee Morten Krogh for Tottenham’s game against Hoffenheim on Thursday night. He has been in charge of nine matches this season across different European leagues, including two Europa League games. Krogh has shown 37 cards this season, including two red cards, meaning an average of 4.11 cards per game for the Danish official.
Krogh’s assistants will be two further Danish officials, in the form of Dennis Rasmussen, and Steffen Beck, who have both been assistants in nine games respectively this season.
The fourth official will be Mikkel Redder, also a Danish referee. He has refereed in six matches so far this season, handing out 21 cards, including one red card. He was the fourth official in one game alongside Krogh, Rasmussen and Beck - a 2-2 draw between Anderlecht and Porto in the Europa League in November.
The Video Assistant Referee will be Dutch official Pol van Boekel, who has been a referee in nine games this season, including six games in the Eredivisie. He has handed out 15 yellow cards in those nine matches.
