The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) will not be in operation during today's FA Cup fourth round tie with Aston Villa.

In previous years, VAR has been used from the third round onwards where the technology is already in place and in operation, such as Premier League stadiums and Wembley Stadium.

However, this season, a decision has been made to use the technology from the fifth round onwards meaning there will be no VAR in operation in this evening's clash with Aston Villa.

The decision has been taken to ensure that there is a consistent refereeing approach for all clubs taking part in the same stage of the competition.

Extra time and penalties

After April's decision to move away from FA Cup replays, there will be no replays in this year's competition with all games from the first round onwards decided on the day.

That means, if our game with Aston Villa remains level at the end of the regulation 90 minutes, we will play an additional 30 minutes.

If the teams can still not be separated by the end of extra-time, the game will be decided via a penalty shootout.
