Spurs take on The Foxes at the Gaughan Group Stadium in their first game of the calendar year.
Leicester City are in 11th place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table having won just once in the first half of the season. They’ve also scored just three times. Despite the East Midlands club’s struggles, Spurs boss Vilahamn knows that they could still cause his side problems on their day.
“You can tell that they have a very knowledgable coach who has created a good identity for the team,” Vilahamn said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “They had a great game against Chelsea before the break and got a draw.
“They’re good in defence but they’re not bad in-possession either. They have some really good players but haven’t really nailed the goalscoring. A player like [Jutta] Rantala was really important for them last season.
“I see a team that’s a good team, they’re not a bottom of the table team that cannot perform. They can hurt us, defend very well but I also see us taking steps now, so I hope we can come to this game and show that we are a team that can dictate a game, create chances but still defend because they have some quality players in their starting XI and in their squad.
“It’s going to be interesting to see where we are after not playing for a month.”
The race is on for places in the top half of the Barclays Women’s Super League table and Vilahamn says that three points would be important for pushing his side closer to the clubs above.
He said “Result-wise in the table, it’s an important game. If you win the game, you can take a step away from the teams below you. Self-confidence-wise it’s also good to start with a win because we have a lot of games coming up.
“The result is important but if we lose, we have another game on Wednesday. It’s just going to be nice playing again after a month without games.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City kicks-off at 12.30pm. Tickets will be available to purchase at the Gaughan Group Stadium ahead of the game.
