Later on this afternoon, Spurs will take to the field as they face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium for match day of the 24/25 Premier League season.

Weirdly, City come into this game having lost four games in a row for the first time under Pep Guardiola. The first of those four games of course being against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month. However, in this international break, Pep Guardiola has extended his contract at the club, with the clarity potentially being able to give them a boost on the pitch.

OneFootball Videos

As for Spurs, they come into this game with many absentees. Micky van de Ven’s injury in the aforementioned Carabao Cup tie against City will keep him sidelined here, and likely for the next few games as well. Cristian Romero has not recovered from the foot injury he suffered on international duty with Argentina, and Wilson Odobert has had hamstring surgery.

How both teams are lining up for this evening's showdown

Therefore, Ange Postecoglu has opted for the following starting XI; Vicario, Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.

The skipper scored two goals with South Korea on international duty during the break, and Spurs will need him to be at his absolute best if they are to have a proper chance in this game. Johnson grabbed a goal for Wales, and his pace in behind will be key in this game.

In midfield, Kulusevski was at his absolute best during the Carabao Cup win over City, and comes into this game after a really productive international break with Sweden. The 24-year old scored the equaliser in this fixture last season, and scored + assisted in this fixture in 21/22, where Spurs won the game in stoppage time.

However, based on the graphics, he does appear to be on the right-wing for this one, which is a shame. Either that, or it is Maddison off the left and Son off the right.

Elsewhere, Udogie’s role with Italy during the break was limited to two substitute appearances, giving him some much needed rest, and we will hopefully see the rewards of that this evening. That too, with Solanke, who played 15 minutes during the break - the striker had looked tired beforehand, so that should have done him some good.

As for Manchester City, Pep has opted for a line up of; Ederson; Walker, Stones, Akanji, Gvardiol; Lewis, Gundogan, Silva; Savio, Haaland, Foden.

Despite being back in training this week, De Bruyne and Grealish are only named on the bench. Spurs fans will no doubt in particular be relieved at seeing De Bruyne on the bench, though we know what he can do even in a cameo.

Tottenham Hotspur Target Angel Gomes: A Move That Makes Sense?

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly plotting a decisive move to sign Angel Gomes, aiming to beat Manchester United and Newcastle to the Lille midfielder’s signature. As reported by Give Me Sport, Spurs are eyeing January as a crucial window to secure hijack Gomes’ services, a move that would bolster their midfield options and align with their long-term strategy. With a history of shrewd January business under Daniel Levy, this potential deal could carry significant implications for Spurs’ trajectory under Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs Eyeing Gomes as a Key Addition

Tottenham’s renewed interest in Angel Gomes stems from his contract situation. Currently earning less than £11,500 per week at Lille, the England international will enter the final six months of his deal in January. This opens the door for Spurs to negotiate either a pre-contract agreement or a cut-price deal with the French side. According to Give Me Sport, Postecoglou and technical director Johan Lange view Gomes as a valuable addition to the squad, particularly given his homegrown status and versatility.

Spurs’ ambitions in the transfer market have been evident. Their £65 million acquisition of Dominic Solanke and the signings of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray signal a clear intent to build a squad capable of challenging at the top level. Bringing Gomes back to the Premier League would align with Postecoglou’s vision of a dynamic and balanced midfield.

“Gomes fits the bill perfectly for Tottenham,” a Give Me Sport source revealed. “He’s homegrown, adaptable, and offers the creative spark they’re looking for.”

Beating Rivals in the Transfer Race

Competition for Gomes is fierce. Manchester United, his boyhood club, and Newcastle are reportedly monitoring the situation, but both clubs appear willing to wait until Gomes becomes a free agent next summer. This gives Tottenham a potential edge if they move decisively in January. Offering Lille a fee now, rather than waiting for the summer, could tip the scales in their favour.

Tottenham’s urgency is understandable. Signing Gomes in January would not only prevent their rivals from swooping in but also allow him time to integrate into Postecoglou’s system ahead of the business end of the season.

However, the financial aspect could be a sticking point. Gomes is reportedly seeking a significant wage increase, potentially in the region of £150,000 per week. Spurs will need to carefully weigh the cost against the value he could bring to the squad. Given Levy’s reputation for tough negotiations, this will be an intriguing subplot as the January window approaches.

Why Angel Gomes Is a Perfect Fit for Tottenham

At just 24 years old, Gomes has already showcased his potential across several leagues. After limited opportunities at Manchester United, he has revitalised his career at Lille and during a loan spell at Boavista. His ability to play as an attacking midfielder or deeper in the midfield makes him a flexible option for Postecoglou, who favours fluid systems.

Postecoglou’s current midfield boasts talents like James Maddison and Yves Bissouma, but adding Gomes could provide a different dimension. His creative flair, coupled with his experience in European competitions, would bring depth and diversity to Spurs’ options.

Additionally, Gomes’ return to the Premier League would add to Tottenham’s homegrown quota—a valuable asset in meeting squad registration rules.

Photo IMAGO

“Tottenham have been tracking Gomes for a prolonged period,” noted Give Me Sport. “Despite Lille’s efforts to tie him down, he is believed to be open to returning to England.”

A Calculated Gamble?

While Gomes’ potential is undeniable, his prospective salary demands raise questions. Making him one of the highest earners at Spurs could disrupt the wage structure, especially with other high-profile players like Harry Kane no longer at the club. However, his homegrown status and adaptability might justify the financial outlay.

In Postecoglou’s fast-paced and attacking system, Gomes’ technical skills and vision could thrive. If Spurs can strike the right deal in January, they may secure a player capable of elevating their midfield to new heights.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Tottenham fans, the rumoured move for Angel Gomes is both exciting and intriguing. On one hand, the midfielder represents a smart investment. At 24, he is entering his prime years, and his performances in Ligue 1 suggest he has matured since his early days at Manchester United. His creativity and versatility would undoubtedly complement the current squad.

However, there is also an element of risk. Committing significant wages to a player who has yet to fully establish himself as a Premier League star could backfire if he fails to meet expectations. Fans may also question whether investing in Gomes is the best use of funds, especially when other areas of the squad—such as defence—still need reinforcement.

That said, Postecoglou’s eye for talent and emphasis on tactical cohesion offer reason for optimism. If Gomes does join Spurs, his ability to operate in multiple roles could make him an invaluable asset, particularly in a league campaign that demands depth and adaptability.

With Manchester United and Newcastle lurking, Tottenham must act decisively. Bringing Gomes back to the Premier League would be a statement of intent, showing that Spurs are serious about building a team capable of challenging for honours.

Match Report: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Ipswich Town | OneFootball

On Sunday afternoon, Spurs welcomed Ipswich Town to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for gameweek 11 of the 24/25 Premier League season.

For the task at hand, Ange Postecoglu went with a line up of; Vicario; Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie: Kulusevski, Bentancur, Sarr; Johnson, Solanke, Son.

Just two minutes into the game, Spurs were nearly behind, with Sammie Szmodics being denied by Vicario from very close range at the far post.

Just a minute later, Spurs should have been ahead themselves, as Johnson poked an inviting cross from Son wide of Arijanet Muric’s post.

Nine minutes in, Ipswich again could have scored as central defender Cameron Burgess hit the post with a header, with Spurs living on the edge.

After half an hour, the visitors would have their goal, with Szmodics this time making no mistake, firing in a right footed shot from inside the box. Obscene amount of ball watching, just to make a change.

Things would get worse before half time, as Liam Delap added to his assist by getting on the scoresheet himself, as Spurs continued to be humiliated in their own backyard.

Ange’s side did not have a shot in the first half after 19 minutes, in an absolutely embarrassing stat, similar to the long periods without a shot in the second half of the defeat at Crystal Palace. Nothing learned, clearly.

Four minutes into the second half, Spurs thought they were back in the game through Solanke, but his goal was ruled out for a handball by VAR.

Midway through the second half, Werner replaced Sarr. Spurs were handed a lifeline shortly after, when Bentancur headed home a Porro corner.

With six minutes of normal time remaining, Bissouma and Maddison replaced Bentancur and Johnson as Ange rolled the dice to try and salvage something from the game.

Deep into the eight minutes of stoppage time, the ball fell to Solanke in a really presentable opportunity, but he could not get past Muric from a tight angle.

That was Spurs' only attempt of any note after 84 minutes, in a whole 15 minutes, as that would be that, and Spurs would fall to an absolutely embarrassing defeat - yet again.

This result leaves Ange's side in 10th place in the Premier League, with 16 points from 11 games so far - ten points fewer than this time last season. That is one point from two games against newly promoted sides so far., d

Tottenham Hotspur Star Vows To Become ‘Even More Devastating’ | OneFootball

One of Tottenham Hotspur’s stars has revealed he is ‘working to be even more devastating’ as he bids to continue to be a difference maker for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Tottenham built on dumping Manchester City out of the EFL Cup by thumping Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Postecoglou’s side are hoping to put in a strong tilt at finishing in the top four, but they also have involvement in Europe to think about and Galatasaray away is their next assignment in that arena.

Much of Spurs’ good form this term has been powered by attacker Dejan Kulusevski, who has been a consistent difference maker.

The Swede provided two assists against Manchester City and one against Aston Villa, and he wants to continue being in such red hot form.

Kulusevski though feels he can become even better, even more devastating, and is looking to prove the best is yet to come.

“There’s still a long way to go, but I feel like the best is yet to come”, he told Sky Italia.

“There’s still a long way to go, but I feel like the best is yet to come.

“I’m convinced I can do even better than what I’ve shown so far.

“I want to improve in everything and I’m working to be even more devastating and to make the difference in every game.

“The easy ones, the difficult ones, home and away. Always.”

The attacker is a key man under Postecoglou at Tottenham, but Spurs may have to deal with an approach from AC Milan for him at some point as the Rossoneri are keen on launching a bid.

Report: Tottenham to Trigger Star’s Contract Extension Option | OneFootball

Son Heung-min Set to Extend Tottenham Stay as Club Triggers Contract Option

Son Heung-min, a pillar of Tottenham Hotspur’s squad since 2015, is set to extend his stay at the north London club as Spurs activate a one-year option in his current contract. This decision will ensure Son’s presence at Tottenham for a second decade, reinforcing the loyalty and passion he’s consistently shown for the club. As reported by The Telegraph.

Son’s Commitment to Spurs: More Than Just Goals

Since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son has cemented his place in Tottenham’s history. With 123 Premier League goals, he ranks as the joint-third top scorer currently active in the league, trailing only Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy. But for Spurs fans, Son is far more than just numbers on a scoresheet. His energy, commitment, and genuine connection with the club and its supporters have made him a fan favourite and, as of this season, the team captain.

OneFootball Videos

Photo: IMAGO

Ange Postecoglou’s appointment of Son as captain reflects the player’s impact both on and off the pitch. Son has shown tremendous consistency, reaching double figures for goals in all but his debut season. His determination is clear, especially with comments earlier this season when he emphasised his goal to end Spurs’ 15-year trophy drought: “I am fully focused on this year and just want to win something that everybody at the club – the players, all around – deserves.”

Postecoglou and Son’s Combined Vision for Success

Under Ange Postecoglou, Spurs have been pushing to establish themselves as a formidable presence, both in the Premier League and in European competitions. Son’s new captaincy role, filling the void left by Hugo Lloris, illustrates Postecoglou’s faith in the South Korean star to lead this transformation. While Spurs currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League, they’re only two points shy of fourth place and well within reach of a Champions League spot.

On the European stage, Tottenham has performed well in the Europa League, currently second in the 36-team table with three wins out of three. Their progress is complemented by an EFL quarter-final matchup against Manchester United next month, a fixture that further highlights the ambitions of Son and Postecoglou for this season.

A Legacy to Last: Son’s Unbreakable Bond with Tottenham

At 32, Son’s commitment to Spurs is an uncommon sight in modern football, where loyalty can often be overshadowed by transfers and contract disputes. This extension reflects both his dedication and the club’s recognition of his impact. Son’s journey at Spurs, from his £22 million signing to his status as captain, is a testament to his importance at the club. The bond between Son and Tottenham has solidified him as one of their finest acquisitions in recent memory—a true rarity in football.

Photo IMAGO

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Son has been more than just a player; he’s a symbol of hope and consistency during years of ups and downs. His captaincy under Postecoglou has brought a renewed sense of purpose and drive that the squad, and fans, can rally around. Spurs supporters have watched him flourish and have felt his dedication as he’s continued to give everything for the club, year after year.

The fact that he’s choosing to remain, especially after nearly a decade, speaks volumes. For Spurs fans, the idea of Son lifting a trophy as captain would be a dream come true, and this contract extension keeps that dream alive. Many believe that with Son’s leadership, the team’s potential in the Premier League, Europa League, and EFL Cup this season could mark the turning point for Tottenham’s future.

This loyalty and resilience resonate with fans who value not just the trophies but the journey and the bond between the club and its players. In Son, they have a player who understands what it means to be Spurs through and through, and who’s willing to fight for a future they can all be proud of.

Report: Spurs Manager Issues Update on Injury-Hit Squad | OneFootball

Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s recent resurgence has been nothing short of exhilarating. After the setback against Crystal Palace, Spurs roared back with an electrifying win over Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and followed it with an emphatic 4-1 comeback victory against Aston Villa in the Premier League. These successes, however, may have come at a significant cost, with injuries starting to pile up for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

One of the most concerning injuries for Spurs fans is that of Cristian Romero. The centre-back, known for his tough and uncompromising play, was forced off during the match against Villa after a robust challenge on Morgan Rogers left him nursing a sore foot. Postecoglou’s post-match comments highlighted the uncertainty surrounding Romero’s condition. “Romero yeah, it was in that challenge again. He felt his foot was sore. I don’t have any sort of further information. Obviously, he’s a pretty tough cookie, so for him to come off, it must be sore, but yeah, look it’s not ideal,” said the manager.

Adding to Spurs’ defensive concerns is the situation with Micky van de Ven. The Dutch defender, who has been a vital part of Postecoglou’s backline, left the pitch in tears during the win over Manchester City. While initial fears suggested a severe issue, Postecoglou later confirmed it was a hamstring strain. “He has strained a hamstring,” the manager explained. “It is not too serious, but probably after the international break for him.”

This update, while somewhat reassuring, means Spurs will need to adjust their defensive strategy in the coming matches.

Richarlison’s season has been marred by injuries, and the forward’s campaign took another unfortunate turn during the Villa match. After coming on as a substitute and assisting Dominic Solanke’s second goal, Richarlison felt a twinge in his hamstring. Postecoglou’s cautious words, “Yeah, I know Richy obviously felt something in the action of setting the goal up, his hamstring, so we’ll see,” suggest further evaluation is needed before a clearer timeline can be established.

Wilson Odobert’s promising start at Spurs has hit a significant roadblock. After making his return from a month-long hamstring injury in late October against AZ, the 19-year-old winger has encountered a serious recurrence. Postecoglou provided an update, noting, “The only other one missing out which is a bit of a disappointment is Wilson, who has had a setback during the week and it seems like it is a serious one so we’re just waiting for more information.” Although not the exact same injury, it affects the same area, adding to the concern.

Odobert, who joined Spurs from Burnley for £25 million, has managed only five appearances this season, and this latest development is a blow to both the player and the team’s attacking depth.

Among the injury updates, there is a glimmer of hope with right-back Djed Spence. Despite suffering a groin strain during training, Spence’s recovery appears to be on track. Postecoglou’s pre-match comments before the wins over City and Villa indicated optimism: “Getting closer so we’re hoping next week [he will] join back in training.”
