Tottenham Hotspur have had a rollercoaster of a week to say the least.
Spurs picked up an impressive win in the Premier League last weekend as they managed to get the better of a very decent Brentford side.
Meanwhile, there was a boost at Tottenham on transfer deadline day as Mathys Tel made a dramatic U-turn and signed for Spurs at the eleventh hour.
Earlier this week, there was a feeling of optimism at Spurs that hasn’t been felt for a while.
However, that optimism was destroyed on Thursday as Spurs lost 4-0 to Liverpool.
This was certainly a disheartening defeat, and according to Tom Barclay, speaking on The Tottenham Way, Ange Postecoglou looked exhausted the next day.
Ange Postecoglou looked exhausted after Liverpool loss
Barclay says that he actually drove past Postecoglou the morning after Spurs’ loss to Liverpool on his way into the training ground.
The journalist says that Postecoglou looked very tired on his way into Hotspur Way and that there was a feeling of deflation.
“And I think everyone’s kind of feeling afterwards was just flatness, wasn’t it? Deflation. And even And this morning, and okay, he’s had a late night, and I saw him actually this morning coming in as I drove past, and he had this sort of black suitcase, and he looked like someone who had had a long journey and not much sleep,” Barclay said.
But still, I think it’s more than just a lack of sleep. You know, everyone just feels incredibly deflated this morning, don’t they?”
What Ange Postecoglou said about his lack of sleep
It’s interesting that Barclay immediately picked up on the fact that Postecoglou looked tired, because the manager himself would admit in his press conference ahead of the Aston Villa game that he didn’t sleep after losing to Liverpool.
“There’s always challenges in management, that doesn’t change. I got up this morning and we didn’t sleep, but it’s not like I got up this morning and didn’t want to come in. I came in early and I want to try and help everyone to make sure we’re ready for the big game on Sunday,” Postecoglou said.
Postecoglou and his Spurs team won’t have got back from Liverpool until the early hours of Friday morning, and that will, inevitably, lead to fatigue.
The last thing this Spurs team need right now is more tiredness in the squad amid their current injury crisis, and their game against Liverpool on Thursday may well have affected their preparation for their match against Aston Villa on Sunday.
