Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Rodrigo Bentancur is "fine" despite his absence from the Tottenham matchday squad to face Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. The Uruguayan has been a regular in midfield for Spurs in recent months but he has missed out on the 20-man squad at Anfield.

As was the case with Destiny Udogie in Monday's home defeat against Nottingham Forest, the Spurs boss has elected to give Bentancur a breather from the squad as he believes it will benefit him after playing a lot of football of late. That in turn should put him in a good position to start on Thursday evening against Bodo/Glimt in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game on Bentancur, Postecoglou said: "He's fine, a bit like Destiny last week. He's played a lot recently and we felt like he would benefit from a weekend off, similar to Destiny last week."

In Bentancur's absence, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and James Maddison have come in to form the midfield trio. Fellow midfielder Pape Matar Sarr drops down to the bench after starting against Forest, with Yves Bissouma remaining on there once again.

Elsewhere, Kevin Danso and Ben Davies replace Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at centre-back. Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke are also handed starts as they join Mathys Tel in the front three.
