Raheem Sterling will not be involved today as he is on loan at Arsenal from Chelsea.

Ashley Cole famously did the same journey, Kai Havertz the inverse, while Sol Campbell infamously went from Spurs to the Arsenal and William Gallas did all three!

EVEN more football

If all this London talk wasn't enough for you there's early kick-offs in the Old Firm and the Sheffield derbies today as well.

You can follow both of those pages now as they near kick-off.

What a day.

How it looks

Here's how the top of the table looks after yesterday's fun and games.

Spurs can play in Europe next season but they'll probably have to win the Europa League to do so.

We're in London aren't we...

Do we have a belting day of football on the cards or what?

A cup final at Wembley and not one, not two but three Premier League games to get stuck into.

Our first four teams in action are all London sides so that's where our focus will be. The chase/race for European football is on the agenda.

Plus Spurs are playing.

Let's do this!

Premier League reaction: Arsenal beat Spurs as Newcastle, Villa & Palace also win

'I am proud of my players' - Pereira

Newcastle 3-0 Wolves

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira, speaking to Match of the Day: "First of all I am proud of my players because we tried to get another result. The difference between one team and the other team is that when we got the chance to score, we missed, and they scored. Against this type of team, one mistake is one goal.

"I think we created maybe six clear chances to score. We tried everything. I am proud of them. The next game is another chance for three points and this is the mentality I want to see in my team."

Too little, too late as Wolves slip into relegation zone

Newcastle 3-0 Wolves

As Eddie Howe said, despite the scoreline, Newcastle did not have it all their own way against Wolves.

Jorgen Strand Larsen struck the outside of the post for Wolves late in the first half and half-time substitute Matheus Cunha delivered a lively display off the bench, blazing wide after racing clear of Sven Botman before shooting just off-target from the edge of the box.

Santiago Bueno thought he had reduced the arrears when he bundled home from close range not long after Gordon's effort, and Strand Larsen was denied by a magnificent Martin Dubravka save late on - but it was too little, too late for Wolves.

'A lot of positives and a lot to improve' - Howe

Newcastle 3-0 Wolves

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Match of the Day: "We had a lot of the ball in the first half, we knew Wolves would be stubborn opponents. We got a lucky break with the first goal but overall I think we deserved it.

"Depending on how the game pans out you need different ways to win. The first goal was so important today, we had a few scares today, Wolves are difficult to play against.

"Overall, I can't be too picky, it is nine wins in a row now. We know we can play better than today, we did enough of the detailed work to get the win.

"There's a lot to be positive about and a lot to improve."

Isak helps Newcastle beat Wolves for ninth straight win

Newcastle 3-0 Wolves

Matthew Howarth

BBC Sport

Alexander Isak continued his superb form with two goals and an assist as Newcastle equalled their club record of nine straight wins in all competitions with victory over Wolves.

The Sweden striker opened the scoring with a shot which deflected in off Rayan Ait-Nouri, making him the first Newcastle player to find the net in eight consecutive Premier League matches.

Isak doubled his and Newcastle's tally 11 minutes after the restart from Bruno Guimaraes' clever pass.

And Newcastle clinched a comfortable win with 16 minutes remaining when Isak picked out an unmarked Anthony Gordon, who slid a low shot past Sa from a central position.

The Magpies' latest triumph lifts them into the top four for the first time since September, while Wolves slip into the relegation zone on goal difference.

'First-half performance was unacceptable' - Postecoglou

Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou speaking to Match of the Day: "We weren't anywhere near the levels we should be today, especially in the first half, we were way too passive and allowed Arsenal to get into a rhythm.

"It was unacceptable in the first half that we could go out there in such a big game and be so passive. We haven't done that for quite a while in a game of football and we paid a price for it.

"Injuries are irrelevant if we aren't going out there with the right sort of mindset and intent, and we didn't today."

'I am so proud of the players' - Arteta

Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta speaking to Match of the Day: "We were outstanding today. From the first minute we were really intense, showed a lot of quality, played with real purpose to hurt them with and without the ball and created an unbelievable atmosphere, which helps a lot.

"The way we reacted and the attitude we played with - not feeling sorry for ourselves - it was phenomenal. I am so proud of the players.

"When you have opportunities you have to take them and today we have done it."

'The door is ajar for Arsenal - this must be their catalyst'

Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham

Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer

Mikel Arteta pumped his fists to the stands while Gabriel threw his shirt into the crowd in celebration as a period of abject misery for Arsenal came to a victorious conclusion against Tottenham.

The stakes are always high in the north London derby, but much was riding on this one for Arteta and his team, as a season that started with so much optimism and expectation threatened to flounder.

Arsenal came into the meeting with Spurs on the back of damaging home defeats by Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, and by Manchester United in the FA Cup.

The scenes at the end of this win over Spurs were wild, noisy and laced with relief as much as celebration. Arsenal had known anything less than victory over their arch-rivals would put a serious dent in their title pursuit.

It demonstrated just how much this 2-1 win meant. Arsenal are now four points behind Liverpool, having played a game more, but this must now be the catalyst for action on and off the pitch.

How 'high energy' Arsenal forced Spurs into mistakes

Arsenal 2-1 Tottengam

Match of the Day pundit Micah Richards believed Arsenal produced a "high-energy" performance that was reminiscent of the side's displays in the early days of manager Mikel Arteta's reign at Emirates Stadium:

"You have to give Arsenal credit, especially after going out of the FA Cup to Manchester United. You were looking for a reaction and I just thought they had the higher energy, especially in that first half.

"At times Arsenal [this season] have been a little bit passive. When Arteta first came to the club, this was the Arsenal we saw a lot. Everyone was doing their jobs, they were pressing high, full of confidence and forced Spurs into mistakes."

Arsenal cut gap on Liverpool with win over Spurs

Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham

Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer

Arsenal moved to within four points of Premier League leaders Liverpool with victory over Tottenham in the north London derby at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners, who have played a game more than Liverpool, were desperate to return to winning ways after losing at home to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg and then going out to Manchester United on penalties in the FA Cup third round.

Arsenal suffered another setback when, totally against the run of play, Son Heung-min's shot was deflected off William Saliba past keeper David Raya after 25 minutes.

The response came from a familiar route, Gabriel rising to meet Declan Rice's corner at the far post five minutes before the interval after Spurs keeper Antonin Kinsky failed to collect, the last touch coming off Dominic Solanke for an own goal.

Arsenal were ahead four minutes later when Leandro Trossard's bobbling low shot beat Kinsky, who should have done much better.

Mikel Arteta's side dominated the second half, but once again lacked the cutting edge to completely put the game to bed.

And although they closed out the win to keep themselves firmly in the title race, they were almost caught right at the end when Pedro Porro hit the outside of the post from a tight angle.

Good morning

Stick with us for all the reaction to the north London derby, as well Wednesday night's three other top-flight fixtures.

Aston Villa and Ollie Watkins ensured there would be no fairy tale homecoming for David Moyes at Everton.

Leicester slid to a sixth consecutive Premier League defeat, at home to Crystal Palace.

And Newcastle equalled their club record of nine straight wins in all competitions with a 3-0 victory over Wolves at St James' Park.

Gunners battle back to beat rivals Spurs

Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham

The pressure valve was released at Emirates Stadium last night as Arsenal recovered from two damaging home defeats in the domestic cup competitions by coming from behind to beat rivals Tottenham.

Fans, players and coaching staff greeted the final whistle with a mixture of relief and excitement after a Dominic Solanke own goal and bobbling Leandro Trossard strike cancelled out Son Heung-min's deflected first-half opener.

The Gunners held firm following a spirited second-half display from Spurs to move to within four points of leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are 13th after falling to a fourth defeat in their last five Premier League games.

Why former Tottenham star Sandro has signed for Harborough Town

Description

Ever heard the one about the former Brazilian international agreeing to play for a non-league club for free in the biggest game in their history?

When former Tottenham midfielder Sandro was propositioned about playing for seventh-tier Harborough Town during a chance meeting in a pre-match hospitality suite, the Bees manager admits he did so jokingly.

Immediately, Sandro agreed. And yet Harborough boss and Spurs season-ticket holder Mitch Austin laughed in response, simply thinking he was being humoured.

"I thought, 'nah, he is just being nice' but then he didn't go away. He's still here," Austin recalled with a laugh.

"Then I asked, 'what do I need to do now, speak to your agent?' He just said, 'take my number'. And from there, he has arrived here."

It was on a grey winter's day at Bowden Park in Market Harborough - a Leicestershire town with a population of less than 25,000 - that the Brazilian was introduced to his new team-mates on Saturday.

"It's amazing, man," Sandro told BBC East Midlands Today. "I feel the love, the energy of everyone here at the club."

It cost Tottenham £8m to bring Sandro to English football from Internacional in his homeland in 2010, but it has cost Harborough nothing to bring him our of retirement 14 years later, when he is still only 35.

Harborough chairman Pete Dougan admits the first thing he asked Austin when told about the unlikely transfer coup was "how are we going to finance this?" But the Brazilian has waved away every offer of money - and has even refused to be paid for fuel and expenses.

"I'll do it for free because I just want to enjoy it one more time," Sandro said.

Before he can come out of retirement to play for the Bees in their FA Cup second-round tie at League One Reading - a stage the club has never reached before - the midfielder has to serve a two-match ban, having been sent off in his last match for Belenenses in Portugal's top flight more than two years ago.

Still, the powerfully-built 6ft 2in former West Brom, QPR and Genoa midfielder managed to make a big impression on his arrival by stepping up to sing an initiation song in the changing rooms as his welcome was made official.

Without hesitation, he agreed to the customary introduction and even asked if there was a microphone.

It was little surprise that his team-mates didn't know the words to international hit Ai Se Eu Te Pego by fellow Brazilian Michel Telo - but he still had the room captivated, chanting and clapping along to the tune.

"Surreal" is how coaches, club chiefs and players feel about Sandro's arrival.

For the 35-year-old, a slightly out-of-tune song sung with team-mates and the laughs that came with it are all part of why he has returned to the game.

"I missed football," Sandro said.

"Football has helped me, my family and my friends, and if I can get one more or two more games to enjoy then it's an honour."

Sandro, who is working towards becoming a manager, got the unexpected offer of a playing return after getting to know Harborough manager and life-long Spurs fan Austin while mingling with hospitality guests at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"I said to the manager, 'you know what, I'm serious I'll take this opportunity and enjoy it'. It's an opportunity to feel like a player again, to be in that changing room again," Sandro said.

The players Sandro has joined are part-timers making a big impression on the world's oldest cup competition - having come through four qualifying rounds just to make it to the first-round proper, where they beat fellow non-league side Tonbridge Angels to set up the tie with a former Premier League club that now finds themselves in League One.

The second-round trip to Reading with the amateur club is a world away from sharing the pitch with players like Ronaldinho and Neymar for Brazil.

Having a midfielder who made 17 appearances for the five-time World Champions, once captained his country, won a Copa Libertadores title with Internacional, and featured for eight top-flight clubs in England, Italy, Turkey and Portugal was summed up well by Harborough boss as being "random as anything".

Sandro himself sees the FA Cup tie with an obscure club from rural south east Leicestershire as "a dream" way to once again play the game he cherishes.

"It's all about the love of football," Sandro said. "It will be an nice experience, a nice moment for me to be on the pitch one more time."

Tottenham news: Opinion - Ange Postecoglou seems recharged

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was sharp, funny and positive in his first news conference since what he described as his "worst defeat" in a 3-2 loss away at Brighton before the international break.

The Australian admitted the emotions of throwing away a two-goal lead were part of his frustrated post-match comments a fortnight ago.

However, once the passions subsided, he felt he could tell his players where they went wrong in that dismal second half.

He is also buoyed by having almost his full squad available for Saturday's match at home to West Ham. Wilson Odobert remains a doubt but Richarlison, Son Heung-min and Lucas Bergvall all return.

During the two-week hiatus, Postecoglou was seen in good spirits at the NFL match that took place in the club's home stadium between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears last Sunday.

He seems to have quickly got over a painful defeat to deliver a positive outlook.

Ferencvaros 1-2 Tottenham: Teenage quartet repay Postecoglou's faith

Submitted by daniel on
Picture

Description

It looked risky for Ange Postecoglou to name four teenagers in his starting line-up, but his faith in his young players paid off as Tottenham beat Ferencvaros to record their second win in two Europa League matches.

Postecoglou included winger Mikey Moore, 17, for his first start, midfielder Lucas Bergvall, 18, defender Archie Gray, 18, and 19-year-old striker Will Lankshear, who was making his senior debut.

Moore was heavily involved in Tottenham’s first goal, scored by Pape Sarr, with Moore and Gray also involved in the build-up to what proved the decisive goal from substitute Brennan Johnson as Spurs fought hard to win in the Budapest rain.

"They’re part of our first-team squad, not because I want some young players, it’s because they’ve earned that spot," said Postecoglou. "They’re an important part of our development. While we want to be a team that has an impact this year, it’s important we’re developing players along the way."

But the strongest praise was reserved for Moore, with Postecoglou saying: “I thought Mikey was outstanding. It’s brilliant for a 17-year-old to play 90-plus minutes in a European away tie. He just handled it superbly, I kind of knew he would and I think it’ll help his growth as a footballer."

Spurs fans can expect to see a lot more of the teenage quartet throughout the rest of the season.

Archie Gray: Tottenham Hotspur sign Leeds United midfielder for about £30m

Archie Gray: Tottenham Hotspur sign Leeds United midfielder for about £30m - BBC
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have signed midfielder Archie Gray from Leeds United for about £30m, with defender Joe Rodon moving in the opposite direction in a deal worth about £10m.

Gray has signed a contract until 2030 with Spurs, who Leeds said had "met a release clause that was triggered by the club’s failure to get promoted at the first attempt".

The sale is believed to be enough to make the Elland Road club compliant with profit and sustainability rules, after their defeat in the Championship play-off final by Southampton cost them promotion and forced them to sell players.

Spurs have beaten Brentford to the signing of 18-year-old Gray, who played 52 matches in all competitions - in midfield and at right-back - for Leeds last season.
