'Quite happy with Ange!' - Former Tottenham favourite gives backing to under-fire Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou remains the right man to lead Tottenham Hotspur forward despite a frustrating sophomore season at the helm, believes Teddy Sheringham.
The Greek-Australian made a strong start to life after he arrived from Celtic last season, but saw injuries sideline their early momentum as they finished in fifth place.
This term has proven even more troubling in north London, with Spurs currently nine points adrift of the top half of the table and well out of the race for Europe.

But Sheringham, who had two different spells with the club either side of a highly successful stint with Manchester United, still believes Postecoglou is the man for the job.
"I'm quite happy with Ange," he told Prime Casino. "I think he’s had a learning period in terms of working with the English press.
"He probably wouldn't use that terminology at different times in the season. He probably wouldn’t leave himself open to such criticism.

"He’s very open and honest, and sometimes that comes back to bite you when you speak to the English press like that, it definitely did with Ange.
"I'm still optimistic about him because of the way he approaches football matches and the way he takes the game to the opposition. They’ve had loads of injuries.
"For me, he speaks sense. If you’re missing your two international top performers in your centre-halves, and your goalkeeper, they make a massive difference to any football team.
"I'm backing Ange, and when the players come back, things will look so much more positive and strong for Tottenham.
"That positivity floods through the rest of the team. The confidence will ooze once they come back into their positions."

Tottenham vs. Manchester City: Preview, team news, prediction for Premier League match

Tottenham Hotspur host Manchester City on Wednesday as part of Matchday 27 of the Premier League season.
Spurs enter the match having won their three most recent league games, easing pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou. However, the North London club are still well off the pace in 13th place, and a top-half finish seems like the only realistic goal for Tottenham this season.
As for City, they remain inconsistent this season and have lost two of their last three league matches. The Sky Blues are fourth in the standings but they have four teams within a single result of leapfrogging past them, so maximising points is paramount for the remainder of the campaign if they hope to return to the Champions League.

Tottenham vs. Manchester City: What the managers are saying
Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham
(via Tottenham)
"You are always looking forward to the challenge. Man City are an outstanding football club, great manager and they have still got great footballers. They are still playing really challenging football for any opponent but we have enjoyed our games against them whether that was this year or last year. You know you are going to get a good football game. They are going to try to win. They are going to play expansively and we are going to try to do the same. It’s going to be a good test for us."
Pep Guardiola, Manchester City
(via Manchester City)
“They’re a fantastic team, with individual quality. The rhythm they play and intensity they do, incredible runners in the transitions but I think lately they have a few more extra passes.
“They can do it especially when James Maddison plays. The results dictate one thing, but the opinion of the team is the opposite.”

Sam Allardyce slams Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou: 'You can only hide behind injuries for so long'

Sam Allardyce has urged Ange Postecoglou to change up his tactics amid another spell of poor form by Tottenham Hotspur, or potentally be sacked.
Postecoglou has drawn criticism all season long as Spurs have struggled both in the Premier League and in cup competitions, with the North London club having been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in a three-day span last week.
And while injuries have certainly played a part in the club falling to 14th in the league standings, Allardyce points to Postecoglou's perceived lack of tactical flexibility as another major reason for Spurs' ongoing woes.

“Managers have gone a lot quicker than Ange, and not done as bad as his results, and sadly you can only hide behind injuries for so long, irrespective of how much it’s affecting the team and how difficult it is to get through that period," Allardyce said on the Footy Accumulators No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.
“You’ve got to find a way to get results, and I think that as the game is today, his inability to change - and to provide a way of playing to win - is much more important than the style of play, and he doesn’t seem to accept that.
“Many coaches seem to be hellbent on one style only. There comes a time when that has to be put to one side to do the right thing for the team, to win a game of football, until you can get back to what you really want to do.”

Everton vs. Tottenham Hotspur: Preview, team news, prediction for Premier League match

Two managers desperate for a Premier League win meet on Sunday but at completely different places in their current jobs.
David Moyes' Everton return was ruined by Aston Villa in midweek, and he needs a victory in the bank quickly to get his second reign off to a positive start. Once again, goalscoring was the issue for the Toffees against Villa, but they'll come up against a Spurs side whose defence has been depleted by injury.
Those injuries and a slump in form have seen Ange Postecoglou's side fail to win in the league since their 4-0 win over Manchester City in November - with rumours that only the cup exploits are easing the pressure on the Australian.
Everton vs. Tottenham: Head-to-head and recent statistics
All-time meetings: 189
Everton wins: 57
Draws: 60
Brighton wins: 72
The two teams have enjoyed a large portion of their history in the top flight and met on nearly 200 occasions, with Tottenham getting the better of the fixture.
The Toffees recent record isn't great reading either, with only one league win over Spurs since 2012.

"They will always be incredibly loyal here, the last few years it has been nip and tuck and it could be again so we will need them. They were brilliant the other night."
Everton vs. Tottenham: Prediction
David Moyes will be hoping to kickstart his second reign with a win over a Spurs side who seem to go from one disappointment to another right now.

Arsenal vs. Tottenham: Preview, team news, prediction for Premier League match

The first North London derby of 2025 happens on Wednesday as Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur in a crucial Premier League match for both sides.
Arsenal are coming off three straight disapointing results, although fortunately for them the most recent two came outside of the league as they were defeated 2-0 at home in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final with Newcastle before falling on penalties to Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup. Regardless, the Gunners cannot boast good form at the moment despite being in the thick of the league title race once again.
Meanwhile, Tottenham were happy to step outside the league for a couple of matches as they shocked Liverpool 1-0 in the opening leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final and followed that up with a 3-0 FA Cup victory at Tamworth. Spurs now return to league action having lost three of their last four games, and they'll look to avoid slipping even further down the table.
Arsenal vs. Tottenham: Head-to-head and recent statistics
All-time meetings: 210
Arsenal wins: 88
Draws: 55
Tottenham wins: 67
Arsenal hold the advantage in all-time meetings, with 88 wins in 210 matches.
Recent history has been even kinder to the Gunners as they've won six of the last eight Premier League matches between these sides.

Arsenal vs. Tottenham: What the managers are saying
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal
(via Arsenal.com )
"It’s probably the nicest game of the season to watch because of the atmosphere, because of what it means to our people, what it means to us and everybody involved in the game. This is something that is in our hands, for example. Let’s create the best atmosphere that we have played at the Emirates, that’s our objective. That's something that we control, the players, the staff, and everybody that turns up tomorrow. This is something that we can do, so let's do it."
Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham
(via TottenhamHotspur.com )
"I felt it was intense from the moment I arrived, but at the same time I've never tried to be disingenuous about this stuff and say, 'this means the world to me' when I've literally just arrived. You get the context of the game and what it means to the club and supporters and what it means for our season. From that perspective, right from the first time we played them, I was well aware. It's like being up in Glasgow, you're well aware of know what it means and the ramifications of both the positive and negative. This year is as big as they ever come, especially for us and our season. We have to start winning games in the league and there is no better place to start..."
Arsenal vs. Tottenham: Prediction
Neither team is firing on all cylinders, but Spurs have to feel good about their Carabao Cup victory over Liverpool and that confidence may carry over into this match. Arsenal should have enough in the tank to pick up points, but it will be tough.
Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham

Mark Lawrenson 'can only see' one winner in Manchester City vs. Tottenham clash

Mark Lawrenson is giving Tottenham Hotspur very little chance at success against Manchester City this weekend.
The teams will face off at the Etihad Stadium as the Premier League resumes following the international break, and neither side are coming into Saturday's clash in good form.
Tottenham are 10th in the league and have been a picture of inconsistency, but their recent results have been better than those of City, who have lost four straight matches across all competitions, including their two most recent league games.

Despite the recent downturn by the Sky Blues, former Liverpool star Lawrenson is still giving the edge to City.
“I can only see a Manchester City win this weekend against Tottenham," Lawrenson said while speaking to Paddy Power. "The only way I can see Spurs getting a result is if loads of the players who have been away on international duty are injured, but I don’t think that’s the case.
“The other thing for the City players, which has been a bonus, is that they’ve not been in the building thinking about their recent results. They’ve been away on international duty, meaning they could have taken their minds off it.
“They will win comfortably, and we’ll probably see the start of another Manchester City run. It might just come earlier than the New Year this season.”
