The first Merseyside derby of the season comes at Goodison Park on December 7, while Liverpool begin the new year by entertaining Manchester United on January 4.

Everton takeover: AS Roma owner Dan Friedkin granted exclusivity to buy majority stake in Premier League club

Submitted by daniel on

Description

AS Roma owner Dan Friedkin has been granted exclusivity by Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri to buy a 94.1 per cent stake in the club, Sky Sports News understands.

Friedkin made an offer to Moshiri earlier in June, which was accepted last week.

With the commercial terms agreed the final documentation will now be formalised.

The deal with Texas billionaire Friedkin is still subject to Premier League, FA and Financial Conduct Authority approval, but that is not expected to be an issue.

Moshiri was tied into a period of exclusivity with troubled US investment group 777 Partners until May 31 and could not enter into alternative discussions.

Friedkin, who bought Serie A giants Roma in 2020, has an estimated worth of $6.1bn (£4.8bn).

What happened to agreement with 777 Partners?

In September, the Miami-based investment fund said it had signed an agreement with British-Iranian billionaire Moshiri to acquire his 94.1 per cent stake in the club.

The deal, initially expected to be closed by the end of 2023, was delayed as 777 Partners reportedly struggled to meet the necessary conditions outlined by the Premier League to complete their purchase.

But Everton said in a statement back in May: "The agreement between 777 Partners and Blue Heaven Holdings Limited for the sale and purchase of the majority shareholding in the club has expired.

"The club's board of directors recognises the considerable level of financial support 777 Partners has provided the club over recent months and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for this."

Moshiri, a former Arsenal shareholder, first bought a 49.9 per cent stake in Everton in 2016. By January 2022, he had increased his stake to 94.1 per cent with a £100m capital injection.

But despite investing nearly £650m in transfers to build the squad since Moshiri's arrival, Everton have slipped out of the top half of the table to fight relegation battles in recent seasons.

The club finished 15th in the Premier League after being hit with two separate points deductions for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

When does the summer transfer window open and close?

The 2024 summer transfer window in England and Scotland is officially open.

The window will close on August 30 at 11pm UK time.

The Premier League has brought forward Deadline Day to link up with the other major leagues in Europe. The closing dates were set following discussions with the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.

Jarrad Branthwaite transfer news: Everton value centre-back at more than £70m amid Man Utd interest

Submitted by daniel on
Picture

Description

Everton value centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite at more than £70m having rejected an opening bid from Manchester United.

One source suggests the offer from United was £35m plus add-ons, some way short of Everton's price for the 21-year-old, who is believed to be in a similar transfer bracket to defenders Josko Gvardiol, Harry Maguire and Wesley Fofana - all of whom were sold for higher fees.

Everton regard Branthwaite as a key player and intend to keep him this summer. United are now discussing whether to make a new bid, but it's understood they will move on to other targets if Everton don't bring down their asking price.

Those other targets are thought to include Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi, Lille's Leny Yoro and Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice.

Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell admitted last month that players will be sold this summer as Everton attempt to improve their financial condition to stay in line with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

Branthwaite played 35 times for Everton in the Premier League last season although was cut from England's Euro 2024 preliminary squad.

Recruiting in the heart of defence has been marked as a priority for FA Cup winners Manchester United this summer.

Raphael Varane is leaving at the end of the month when his deal expires, while Jonny Evans has been offered a contract to stay on at Old Trafford.

Another Everton player who could fetch a sizeable fee is Amadou Onana - but no move has yet emerged for the midfielder.

When does the summer transfer window open and close?

The 2024 summer transfer window in the Premier League and Scottish Premiership is officially open.

The window will close on August 30 at 11pm UK time in England and at 11.30pm in Scotland.

The Premier League and Scottish Premiership brought forward Deadline Day to link up with the other major leagues in Europe. The closing dates were set following discussions with the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
