Chelsea have completed the signing of Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Becky Spencer on an emergency loan deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this afternoon.

It has been reported that Spencer will spend the remainder of the current campaign at Kingsmeadow.

The 34-year-old Jamaican international keeper returns to the club were she enjoyed a previous spell between 2016 and 2018. Spencer has since gone on to enjoy a hugely successful five-and-a-half-year stint with Spurs in which she has played an important role in the team.

Chelsea have opted to move for Spencer’s services off the back of Dutch keeper Femke Liefting’s recent injury. Liefting sustained a foot injury ahead of The Blues’ recent Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton at Kingsmeadow. It is understood that the player will be sidelined for the longer term. Liefting’s injury, combined with Zećira Mušović’s recent pregnancy, has left Chelsea with little goalkeeping cover or competition.

It has not been revealed whether Spencer has been registered in time to feature in the Chelsea matchday squad for Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Brighton & Hove Albion. Hannah Hampton is expected to start the match as number one goalkeeper.

Everton are into the fifth round of this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Walton Hall Park in a fourth round tie this evening.

Going into the game, The Toffees had never lost at home to Spurs and they continued that record thanks to goals from Kelly Gago and Heather Payne.

Everton were dealt a blow early on in this evening’s tie with captain Megan Finnigan being forced off with an injury. The life-long Evertonian went down inside the first 10 minutes and was unable to continue.

It was Spurs who went closest to breaking the deadlock in the early stages. Matilda Vinberg took aim at goal but her attempt was caught well by Emily Ramsey before former Toffee Hayley Raso played a perfect pass to Martha Thomas but she looped the ball into the gloves of the Everton keeper.

The best chance of the first half fell to Everton’s January transfer window signing Gago. She was found by Honoka Hayashi and made a run forward before shooting at goal but the ball was claimed by visiting keeper Eleanor Heeps.

Minutes after the restart, Gago did open the scoring for The Toffees. Sara Holmgaard provided the assist and Gago sent a left-footed shot low into the bottom right corner.

Eager to get a second goal, Heather Payne made a strong run down the left before delivering a ball over the top of the Spurs defence. Gago attempted to head the ball in but her attempt went wide of the target.

At the other end, Spurs pushed for an equaliser but they struggled to severely test Ramsey while the Everton defence stood firm.

Everton finally made sure of their progress in second half stoppage time. Toni Payne squared the ball to Heather Payne and she was able to net the second goal with an impressive shot from outside of the box.

Everton’s reward for this evening’s victory is a fifth round tie at Chelsea on the weekend of 8/9 February 2025.

Spurs 'going to go all in' as they bid for FA Cup glory says Vilahamn

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says that his side are ‘going to go all in’ as they seek another run in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

The Lilywhites were runners-up in last season’s competition after being defeated 4-0 by Manchester United in the final at Wembley. Spurs begin this season’s competition with a fourth round tie at Everton on Sunday.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Spurs boss Vilahamn admitted that Everton will be tough opponents but says that his side will give their all in a bid to enjoy another cup run

“Everton are a good team, they’ve signed some really good players and Brian [Sørensen] knows what he’s doing as a coach,” Vilahamn said. “Last season, we had some very difficult games [against Everton] as well, so it’s going to be a tough game.

“We know that we can beat them, we’ve had some good games against them, so I’m looking forward to it. Cup games are always a little bit different but we are going to go all in to try and go on a journey in the FA Cup.”

Following a recent takeover, Everton boss Sørensen has been able to recruit strongly in this month’s transfer window. Vilahamn says that it’ll be tricky to guess Everton’s starting XI this weekend but Spurs’ focus is on themselves.

He said “Personnel-wise, you don’t know much about their starting XI; there could be maybe 20 different players who could start. Brian is quite flexible in his tactics as well; they can defend with three, four or five. He’s a coach that can also change during games as well.

“We don’t focus too much on the opponent, we try and focus on ourselves, how we want to play and improve. We want to make sure that we get better.”

Commenting on last season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup run, Vilahamn said that there’s not been too much reflection and that the focus is on what his side want to achieve this year.

He said “It was a long time ago and we are in the here and now, working on where we are. I’ve been in cup finals for the last four years and have lost them all but I want to always get back and win the trophy.

“We are in the quarter-finals of the League Cup as well and I just know that these players are really competitive. We’ve been inspired by the men’s team [against Liverpool] as well.

“We want to bring trophies to this club, so we will do everything that we can to have a cup run. It’s hard to win the league, so the cups are the easiest way for us to get a trophy right now.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Everton kicks-off at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner said that he preferred the result to the performance as his side recorded a 3-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at the Leigh Sports Village on Sunday afternoon.

Elisabeth Terland netted a brace with two clinical finishes before Maya Le Tissier added a third goal from the penalty spot.

When speaking to the media after the match, Skinner admitted that the result was better than the performance but he was impressed by his side’s ruthlessness.

“I prefer the result to the performance,” Skinner said. “I felt that Tottenham were good in the first half, they were sharper than us, especially in the first 25 minutes. I looked down at the clock and there were 30 minutes gone, I didn’t think we’d imposed ourselves on the game at all. Credit to Tottenham, but we were ruthless today.”

Forward Terland opened her Manchester United goal account with a double and Skinner heaped praise on the player.

He said “I just think she’s an incredible talent. The beauty of her is that she slows the moment and sees the opportunity under immense pressure. She is always focused, she doesn’t dip off her focus, whether it’s pressing or whatever the task is, she’s all in. She slows the moment and seizes the opportunity under the most immense pressure, that’s the beauty of her.”

Terland wasn’t the only player that Skinner spoke highly of. Celin Bizet Ildhusøy, who joined Manchester United from Spurs in the summer, impressed on the right.

“I spoke to Celin when she was first coming to Manchester United,” Skinner said. “We spoke about her versatility down the [right] side without diminishing her qualities. She wants to run all day, she has this fantastic delivery quality which is also one of her best traits, she is defending and she loves to defend.”

Manchester United have now won their first three league games without conceding but Skinner wants his side to avoid complacency.

He said “I feel that we will adapt throughout the season. I feel that we’re learning each other’s traits, but we have to adjust because as soon as we have this one system and one way of playing, the opponent will know exactly what we’re doing and then they can stop it.

“For us, it’s about keeping the opponent guessing for as long as possible and then they must adapt in the game. That’s what modern football is going to be, it’s about knowing what your role and responsibility is, but adapting quickly.”

Manchester United are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion.

It has been reported that Talbert will initially spend the first half of the season with Spurs.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Barbora Votíková has joined Czech club SK Slavia Prague on a permanent deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Lilywhites this morning.

Votíková joined Spurs last summer off the back of a two-year spell with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The 27-year-old Czechia international went on to make six appearances for Spurs in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

In her short time in North London, Votíková helped Spurs to record a sixth-place finish in last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League while she was a member of the team that reached the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final for the very first time.

Votíková will be remembered most for the role that she played in Spurs’ first-ever Barclays Women’s Super League victory over neighbours Arsenal back in December. The keeper put in a truly heroic performance as Spurs recorded a 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Before moving to England, Votíková had endured a difficult end to her spell with former club Paris Saint-Germain due to injury and individual errors. She will now join Slavia Prague for a second spell having rebuilt both her confidence and reputation in her time with Spurs.
