He was also in charge of Liverpool v West Ham in the EFL Cup, earlier this season. In that game, Edson Alvarez was shown a red card for two bookable offences. Julen Lopetegui was also booked for arguing on the touchline.

Throughout his Premier League career, he has refereed 95 games in total, showing an average of 3.17 yellow cards, and 0.09 red cards per game. He is one of the more lenient refs, with 23.03 fouls per game.

Of all the Premier League fixtures that have been played 30 or more times, Leicester’s encounters with Tottenham have the highest goals-per-game figures (3.80 avg) and a massive 28 goals were registered in the last five tussles between the clubs alone.

Tottenham’s adventurous attacking philosophy under Ange Postecoglou made them one of the league’s most entertaining outfits last term and we expect Spurs to take their cavalier approach into Monday night’s opener.

Harry Winks was a key component in Leicester’s Championship title-winning midfield last season when the 28-year-old complemented his silky passing range with an aggressive streak.

Winks committed at least two fouls in 19 separate Championship fixtures for the Foxes in 2023/24 and with Leicester’s average possession stats likely to drop in the Premier League, he should have more opportunities to stick the boot in this term.

The midfielder spent two decades on the books at Tottenham in the early part of his career and keen to make an impression against his boyhood club, we’re tipping Winks to foul at least twice again.

Like Winks, James Maddison will be eager to perform against a former employer on Monday evening. Maddison forged his reputation for creativity and goal-getting during a productive five-year stint with the Foxes, though the 27-year-old will be out to do some damage on his return to The King Power Stadium.

Maddison averaged 0.97 shots on target per 90 minutes for Tottenham last term and he finished the campaign in third spot at the club for total shots on target mustered behind attackers Son Heung-min and Richarlison.

Maddison is comfortable shooting off either foot and is usually first in the queue to take direct free kicks around the opponent’s area. Look for him to test City’s Mads Hermansen at least once here.

Pedro Porro’s rampaging runs down the right flank were a major feature of Tottenham’s gameplan last season and the adventurous Spaniard averaged a healthy 1.54 shots per 90 from his defensive berth.

The 24-year-old was a consistent performer in the shot markets in 2023/24 and the defender lodged at least one effort at goal in a sizable 28 of his 35 appearances in the Premier League.

Porro’s engine should allow him to burst into more threatening positions on matchday one against Leicester and he remains a hugely attractive prospect in the 1+ shots bracket again.

Leicester supporters were sick of the sight of Tottenham cult hero Son Heung-min before their relegation from the Premier League. The Korean attacker tended to produce some of his best work against the Foxes as evidenced by his superb haul of 13 goal involvements in 14 top-tier runouts against City.

In his last three outings against Leicester alone, Son managed to lodge six goal contributions (5G, 1A) and though he hasn’t scored at The King Power Stadium since 2018, he should have chances to end his dry spell at that venue on Monday.

Son, who has claimed double figures for both goals and assists in three of his last five seasons for Tottenham, looked sharp in pre-season and he is an excellent pick-up to either score or create another goal against Leicester here.

Leicester’s pre-season preparations weren’t exactly ideal and the Foxes lost their final three friendly fixtures in a row without scoring once. Already there are concerns about new manager Steve Cooper’s suitability for the job and a nervous atmosphere in the stands on Monday evening could lead to similar uncertainty on the pitch.

Tottenham won all six of their encounters with newly-promoted teams last season and with a frontline that boasts the talents of Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, former Leicester star James Maddison and summer acquisition Dominic Solanke, the visitors could have too much firepower for the Foxes.

Tottenham were the Premier League’s most-fouled team last season and suffered an average of 13.40 fouls per 90 minutes across their 2023/24 campaign. Spurs’ opponents also picked up a combined 100 yellow cards in meetings against the Londoners, a haul matched only by city rivals, Chelsea.

With the most advanced positions in Tottenham’s XI filled by players with pace and technical ability, it’s easy to see why they drew so many fouls last season and Spurs are likely to be on the receiving end again this time around.

Leicester finished last season with 83 cards despite the Foxes’ controlling 61.6% possession per game on average. With less of the ball, their card count should climb even higher this season, starting with Monday’s game.

Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur endured an injury-ridden campaign in 2023/24, though he did make his presence felt when fit and committed 1.79 fouls per 90 in the Premier League.

Yves Bissouma was Ange Postecoglou’s chief enforcer in midfield last term, though the Mali international is in the Australian coach’s bad books at present and that should allow Bentancur to assume screening and ball-winning responsibilities in front of Tottenham’s defence at Leicester.

In 13 Premier League starts last season, Bentancur gave away at least two free kicks on five separate occasions and we’ve backed the 27-year-old to bring more aggression to proceedings at the King Power Stadium.

After a short one-year hiatus, Leicester City are back in the Premier League and the Foxes start their latest top-flight tenure with a potentially exciting tussle against Tottenham Hotspur in the first Monday Night Football offering of the new campaign.

Spurs were one of the division’s great entertainers last season under their tactically adventurous Australian boss Ange Postecoglou and the Londoners’ fixtures should come with a guarantee of goals again in 2024/25.

Listed as one of the favourites to go straight back down, Leicester will be determined to defy the naysayers under new manager Steve Cooper, however, they have already been heavily opposed in the markets ahead of Monday’s opener with the Foxes priced as long as 5.0 to collect three points.

Backing Tottenham to win their opening Premier League fixture at Leicester looks like a safe manoeuvre for cautious bettors on Monday, however, combining an away win with over 2.5 goals has just as much appeal at a more attractive price of 2.10.

The goal-scoring and chance-creating potential in Tottenham’s ranks opens up another worthwhile avenue in the shots on target market. Spurs averaged 5.45 shots per 90 in the Premier League last season, which was the division’s fourth-best output.

With Solanke adding another string to their bow, they have the quality to improve upon that figure against an ordinary-looking Leicester outfit on Monday and backing Spurs to have six or more shots on target looks like top value at 1.73.

Leicester City topped the Championship with 97 points last season, though the loss of the manager who masterminded their promotion charge, Enzo Maresca, feels like a significant blow to their chances of securing Premier League survival this term.

The appointment of Steve Cooper as Maresca’s replacement wasn’t greeted with unanimous enthusiasm by City supporters and coincidentally, the last time Cooper managed in a Premier League fixture (Dec ‘23), his Nottingham Forest were beaten 2-0 at home by, you guessed it, Tottenham Hotspur.

Leicester averaged 1.83 goals per game in the Championship last season and ranked second in the division in the average possession (61.6%) stakes, though Cooper’s more direct style of play at Forest had little in common with Maresca’s more controlled approach and it will be interesting to see how the Foxes adapt to a different philosophy.

Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall clocked a club-high 26 Championship goal contributions last season, though the 24-year-old followed Maresca to Chelsea and so far at least, Leicester have failed to sign a like-for-like replacement.

Leicester will be looking to wingers Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi for inspiration on the flanks. That pair chipped in with 37 goal contributions between them last season while averaging 2.40 and 2.21 shots per 90 minutes respectively.

City finished their pre-season programme with a trio of successive defeats against Palermo (0-1), Augsburg (0-1) and Lens (0-3), drawing a blank on each occasion.

📊 Tottenham Form and Stats

Tottenham missed out on Champions League qualification by just two points last season and a renewed charge for a top four finish in the Premier League is the primary objective in 2024/25.

To that end, they’ve shown a decent amount of ambition in the summer market, with the signing of £65m striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth a particularly eye-catching capture.

Solanke scored 19 Premier League goals for the Cherries last season and Spurs hope the centre-forward can be the focal point of an already talented frontline this year.

Tottenham had a reputation for producing free-wheeling, attacking football last season and over 2.5 goals landed in a division-high 79% of their Premier League fixtures in 2023/24 with a further 71% of the same matches featuring goals at both ends.

Interestingly, no other Premier League suffered more fouls than Tottenham over the course of the previous season. Spurs’ players were fouled 13.4 times per 90, with former Leicester midfielder James Maddison (3.12) their most kicked individual.

Six different Tottenham players finished the season with double-figure goal contributions, with the evergreen Son Heung-min the top performer (27). Pedro Porro’s surges from right wing back earned him an impressive three goals and seven assists. Watch out for the Spaniard’s marauding runs on Monday.

Spurs’ commitment to forward-thinking football came at a cost at the opposite end however, and only six clubs finished the campaign with a worse xGA figure (63.4).

Tottenham’s swashbuckling style was on show again in pre-season. Their last five friendly matches produced 28 goals (5.60 avg) and Spurs conceded ten times combined in the last four of those outings.

When Leicester and Tottenham last crossed paths in February 2023, City roared back from a goal down to thump Spurs 4-1 at the King Power Stadium to avenge the 6-2 mauling they had suffered in the reverse fixture between the clubs in the capital five months earlier.

The goal-bonanza witnessed in both of the teams’ encounters during the 2022/23 wasn’t all that unusual however, in fact, of all the Premier League fixtures that have been contested at least 30 times, Leicester’s meetings with Tottenham have the highest goals-per-game average (3.80).

A whopping 28 goals rattled the net in the last five skirmishes (5.60 avg) between the teams alone, with BTTS landing on each occasion. In terms of results, Tottenham emerged with maximum points in four of those five chaotic contests.

Leicester supporters have been traumatised by talismanic Tottenham star Son Heung-min before and the attacker has 13 goal involvements (9G, 4A) in 14 Premier League appearances against the Foxes. The 32-year-old bagged five goals and an assist in his last three runouts against City alone, though he hasn’t scored at the King Power Stadium since December 2018.

For City, Jamie Vardy usually holds the aces against Tottenham. The veteran has scored eight Premier League goals against Spurs, however, he misses Monday’s fixture through injury.

Interestingly, James Maddison notched home and away against Tottenham during Leicester’s last Premier League campaign. The attacking midfielder, who returns to his old stomping ground on Monday, hit four goals against Spurs overall before joining the Londoners in the summer of 2023.
