Tottenham Hotspur won't be able to rotate their options amidst their injury crisis as the hosts are likely to still be without Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven for this fixture once again. Liverpool have utilised their options as they have done consistently in this tournament. Tottenham have been poor defensively in recent weeks, with the home side failing to keep a clean sheet in their last five and winless in their previous four- following a 2-1 loss at home to Newcastle United, which has increased the pressure on Ange Postecoglu.

Liverpool have been excellent away from home, having won their last four games in all competitions on their travels, which includes scoring six past their opposition in the league meeting at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool

Tottenham host Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, with both teams looking to put one foot into the final.

Date: 08/01/25

Kick-off time: 20:00

Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

The home side are searching for their first piece of silverware since 2008, when they won the League Cup. Spurs are in dreadful form, however, and now face the best team in the country. Ange Postecoglou’s side are winless in their last four, and it has them stranded in the bottom half of the Premier League table. Their last win, in fact, was in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup, where they eliminated Manchester United with a thrilling 4-3 win.

It has been a fantastic campaign for Liverpool as they remain fighting on all four fronts. They are top of the Premier League by six points, and have a game in hand. They have lost just once in all competitions this season, and are unbeaten since mid-September. The Reds are also winners of four of their last five, including a 2-1 win at Southampton to set up this tie with Spurs.

Goals should be a feature in this game, given the involvement of Tottenham. The hosts are dangerous going forward, but are extremely vulnerable at the back. It does not get much tougher than coming up against Mohamed Salah, who has enjoyed a sensational league season which has seen him contribute 18 goals and 13 assists in 19 appearances. Spurs have not kept a clean sheet in their last five.

Despite Spurs’ threat going forward, they will face a defence which is back to full strength following the return of Ibrahima Konate. However, they have scored 15 in their last six, and are riding on the good form of striker Dominic Solanke, who is the club’s top scorer with 11 goals this season, the latest coming in their most recent game against Newcastle.

These two teams have met 13 times in all competitions since 2019. Liverpool have been the overwhelmingly dominant side in this fixture with 10 wins to Tottenham’s one, with one draw. This includes four wins in the last five for the Reds, who are hoping to extend their impressive record against their opponents. The reverse fixture just two weeks ago saw a thrilling 6-3 victory for Liverpool away from home. Salah and Luis Diaz both scored braces.

Tottenham:

In their last five games, Tottenham have won one, drawn one and lost three. It has been a poor stretch for Spurs, though it started with victory in the Carabao Cup as they hosted Man United in the quarter-final. They advanced with a 4-3 win, after taking a 3-0 lead. Goalkeeping errors got United back in the game, but an insurance goal from a corner by Heung-min Son secured the victory.

Another home game followed, and they were emphatically beaten 6-3 by Liverpool. The visitors took a 5-1 lead before Spurs threatened a comeback. James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke were on the scoresheet. On Boxing Day, Spurs travelled to Nottingham Forest, where they were defeated 1-0. Anthony Elanga scored the winner half an hour into the game.

They then hosted Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The game ended in a 2-2 draw. They turned around an early deficit with goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson, but Jorgen Strand Larsen levelled the score late on. Last time out, they played against Newcastle, who beat them 2-1, overturning an early deficit given to them by Solanke.

Liverpool:

In their last five games, Liverpool have won four and drawn one. It has been a superb stretch for Liverpool as they continue their excellent season. This run started with a 2-1 win at Southampton which confirmed Liverpool’s place in the semis of the Carabao Cup. Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott scored in the first half before Cameron Archer pulled one back. The Reds were able to hang on to advance.

A trip to face Tottenham followed. They were 6-3 winners in a dramatic game, which saw them take a 5-1 lead in the second half. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah both scored a brace. Their winning streak continued with a 3-1 home win over Leicester. Jordan Ayew gave the visitor a shock early lead, but Cody Gakpo levelled the score on the stroke of half-time. Further strikes from Curtis Jones and Salah secured the three points.

West Ham were Liverpool’s next opponents, who the Reds convincingly beat 5-0 on the road. Diaz, Gakpo, Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota were all on the scoresheet. At the weekend, they hosted fierce rivals Manchester United at Anfield. They were held in an entertaining 2-2 draw, which saw them take the lead after falling behind. Amad Diallo scored a late equaliser for United.

Tottenham Hotspur lock horns with Ipswich Town in the Premier League as two sides go in search of a needed win - albeit for very different reasons.

Date: 10/10/2024

Kick-off time: 14:00

Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, North London

Tottenham are currently 7th in the Premier League with 16 points from ten games. Spurs' season thus far has been somewhat of a rollercoaster, with Ange Postecoglou's side showing simultaneous strengths and shortcomings, with consistency eluding them more than they would like.

On their day, Spurs can be frightening, but when things don't click they can shoot themselves in the foot in quite a horrific manner, and they have some notable defensive frailties that they cannot seem to shake off.

Postecoglou's side are quite vulnerable at set pieces, and they play a very high line, which proves effective a lot of the time, but when it doesn't, it can be very exposing, particularly when defender Micky van de Ven is unavailable, which seems to be somewhat often given the physically demanding nature of this game model on his hamstrings.

Still, Spurs have shown commendable resilience and mental strength to rebound from numerous setbacks, as it looked as though Posecoglou could lose his job only a few weeks back, but a strong run of form has reinstilled confidence in his reign.

Summer signing Dominic Solanke is really starting to lay down a marker in this team, with the England international having started his Spurs career slowly, but is now consistently scoring goals and delivering very strong performances, with his all-round centre forward play some of the best in the league.

Spurs are currently only two points shy of Chelsea in 4th place so they'll feel very comfortable with their position in the table, and a win here could even see them jump into the Champions League spots if other results go their way.

Ipswich, on the other hand, are having a tough, tough campaign. Promoted from the Championship at the end of last season, Ipswich always had a tough job on their hands given they were League One team only two seasons ago, but there will be an immense degree of frustration on their part that they don't have more points than they do.

The Tractor Boys are 18th in the league with five points, still winless, but have been their own worst enemy at times. Ipswich have conceded stoppage-time goals in a couple of games they should have taken something from this season and while many performances have been poor, they've shown flashes of real quality.

Kieran McKenna and co were given a large investment sum in the summer and many players were recruited into the squad. While that does serve as a boost, it's quite difficult to integrate so many new faces into the fold, with the average starting lineup in the league this season featuring seven new players.

England U21 international Liam Delap, signed from Manchester City, has been the best piece of business, with the striker notching five goals in nine games, more than any other Ipswich player.

Sammie Szmodics has also shown flashes of quality, while the standout performer of last season's crop is probably Leif Davis, whose performances have been very strong, despite some doubts that he was good enough to make the step up.

Ipswich are desperately in need of a win but it's going to take a monumental performance for them to even snatch a point from this game, so it feels likely that their wait is going to continue for another week at least.

Galatasaray vs. Tottenham: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

Description

The Europa League clash between Galatasaray and Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday is one of the more intriguing games of the week's Europa League lineup. Galatasaray, currently fifth in the group with seven points from nine games, are desperate for some continental success, while Spurs, sitting second with nine points from three games, are the competition favourites and are well on course for a strong tournament.

Date: 07/11/2024

Kick-off time: 17:45

Location: Rams Park, Istanbul

For Galatasaray, the Europa League is a priority competition this season. Despite largely dominating domestic football in Turkey in recent season, Galatasaray have been starved of success in Europe for a long time and are desperate to reestablish the reputation they had garnered for themselves back in the late 90s and early 00s. The club’s Europa League journey this season began in the shadow of their failed attempt to qualify for the Champions League, where a disappointing 4-2 aggregate loss to Swiss side Young Boys in the qualifiers dashed their hopes of competing in Europe’s top competition, leaving the Europa League as their primary European focus.

In light of their Champions League woes, Galatasaray’s performances in the Europa League thus far have been decent, securing seven points from their three games, they sit in a competitive position in the group, though they will need to improve further to challenge the favourites. The club’s last taste of European success came in the 1999-2000 season, when they won the then UEFA Cup—now the Europa League, which remains their only major European title, though they managed to reach the Champions League quarter-finals twice, in 2001 and 2013. However, the lack of significant achievements since has been frustrating for their passionate supporters, who continue to expect a return to the club’s glory days.

Manager Okan Buruk faces considerable pressure to deliver results in Europe, as Galatasaray have invested in the squad quite considerably in recent years by the standards of Turkish football, but that financial commitment has yet to yield substantial progress on the continental stage. The minumum expectation this season is a deep run in this competition, and while they've started the campaign strongly, they're yet to face a significant test in Europe. If they were to beat a side of Tottenham's calibre, it would drastically increase the belief that the Turkish side can go all the way this year.

Tottenham approach this game in a considerably different position, as they sit comfortably in second place with a perfect record of nine points from their three games. Spurs have had a somewhat erratic season overall, with the team's Premier League performances frustratingly inconsistent, but Ange Postecoglou's side are still in a healthy position in the league table and are very much targeting a top four finish, allowing them to return to the Champions League next season.

In the Europa League, Spurs have managed to navigate their group matches with relative ease, with the side’s depth vast enough to allow them to comfortably beat teams while resting a number of senior players. This approach has worked well for Tottenham, who have used the competition to platform promising youngsters like winger Mikey Moore, who is amidst a mini breakout.

As tournament favourites, Tottenham hold a target on their back, and Galatasaray will likely view this as an opportunity to test themselves against a tournament favourite. Spurs are unlikely to hold this game in quite as high a regard, as they clearly have their eyes set on a top four finish in the Premier League, and they probably won't start to field their strongest lineups until this competition reaches the knockout phase. Still, Postecoglou will be aware that this is one of the toughest fixtures Spurs have faced in the Europa League so far, and it's not a game he or the squad will be taking lightly. While Tottenham have handled previous fixtures confidently, the Istanbul trip represents a different level of challenge, both in terms of the quality in the Galatasaray squad and the raucous atmosphere that Turkish fans tend to produce.

Galatasaray come into this one in very good form, unbeaten in their last 12 games having won their last four on the bounce. Most recently, the Turkish side claimed a big 2-1 win over rivals Beşiktaş, where goals from Davinson Sánchez and Victor Osimhen secured what was a fairly comfortable win, despite the closeness of the scoreline.

Prior to that, Galatasaray beat Swedish side Elfsborg in this competition by a 4-3 scoreline, a result that followed a 3-0 win away at Antalyaspor, where a Mauro Icardi brace and a goal from Osimhen produced the goods.

Before that, Yunus Akgün gave Galatasaray a 1-0 win over Alanyaspor, which followed a 2-2 draw with Rigas FS in the Europa League, where Dries Mertens and Akgun provided the goals.

Spurs are in good shape heading into this game having won four and lost one of their last five outings. Postecoglou's men provided a huge 4-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend, where a Dominic Solanke brace alongside goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison saw the team claim a huge three points.

That result was preceded by a 2-1 win over Manchester City in the League Cup, with Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr getting on the scoresheet, which followed a 1-0 loss away at Crystal Palace.

Prior to that, Spurs beat AZ Alkmaar 1-0 thanks to a Richarlison goal, a result that came after a thumping 4-1 win over West Ham United.

Pep Guardiola's side have improved their recent record against the hosts, as the Citizens are unbeaten in their last three and have recorded two consecutive wins over Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The visitors are in such domineering away form, as they are unbeaten away from home this season, having won four of their five competitive away fixtures across domestic and European competition. Manchester City have not lost a competitive away fixture since December 2023, when they were defeated by Aston Villa at Villa Park.

That being said, we expect Manchester City to pick up the win here. The game will be a closely contested affair and most probably separated by a single goal in favour of the Citizens.

The two have met in this competition in previous years, with Manchester City beating the hosts in the tournament's final of the 2021 edition. The game ended 1-0, with the surrounding story of Jose Mourinho resigning as Tottenham Hotspur manager before the final.

Tottenham Hotspur avoided an early scare against last season’s cup specialists in Coventry City - who famously reached the semi-final of the FA Cup. The Sky Blues secured a second-half lead through Brandon Thomas-Asante before two late goals from Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson rescued the tie for Ange Postecoglu’s side. The goal for Brennan Johnson kickstarted a remarkable resurgence in the Wales international as the former Nottingham Forest has now scored seven in his last nine appearances for club and country.

Manchester City were also made to avoid a potential upset against Watford - a fixture in which they traditionally dominated scoreline-wise over the last five years. Jeremy Doku had given the Citizens the lead in the first five minutes of the tie, with Matheus Nunes providing Manchester City the second goal with seven minutes to go before the interval. Tom Ince gave the Premier League champions a scare with minutes to go, with a goal for the Hornets.

The last time these two teams met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Manchester City effectively secured the Premier League title with a 2-0 win over Ange Postecoglu’s side thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland.

Unsurprisingly, Ange Postecoglu’s side conceded half the number of goals per game at home than they do on their travels. 0.75 at home on average compared to 1.5.

Tottenham Hotspur’s most recent domestic game on home soil was thoroughly excellent as they dispatched of London rivals West Ham United. Mohammed Kudus had given the Irons the lead inside the first 20 minutes, although West Ham were pegged back by a goal by Dejan Kulusevski ten minutes before the interval. Tottenham Hotspur are looking to get their form back on track as they take on West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend.

Date: 19/10/2024

Kick-off time: 12:30

Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, North London

Tottenham’s performances so far this season have encapsulated both the potential and the pitfalls of the team. Known for his high-energy, attacking philosophy, Postecoglou's arrival was initially greeted with optimism. However, the team’s results have been a mixed bag, with a lack of consistency in performances holding Spurs back from making a more significant impact in the league.

After a difficult start, there were signs that Postecoglou’s methods were beginning to take hold, with Spurs delivering some improved performances that suggested they had turned a corner. Yet, that optimism was severely dented last weekend when Tottenham blew a 2-0 lead against Brighton & Hove Albion, eventually losing 3-2 in what could prove to be a damaging defeat. It was a result that reignited doubts about the team’s ability to see out matches and manage defensive lapses.

The defeat at Brighton marked a pivotal moment in Tottenham's campaign. Despite racing to a two-goal lead and seemingly being in control, they succumbed to pressure in the second half, allowing Brighton to not only pull level but take all three points. Such collapses have raised questions over the team’s mental toughness and their ability to execute Postecoglou’s ambitious tactical approach over the course of 90 minutes.

As a result, Saturday’s match against West Ham represents a critical opportunity for Spurs to steady the ship. A victory would provide a much-needed boost and relieve some of the pressure that had started to mount on Postecoglou earlier in the season. Yet, another defeat could stoke further uncertainty around his reign and the club’s direction under his leadership.

One positive for Tottenham has been the resurgence of Brennan Johnson, who is starting to rediscover his best form after a difficult spell. The Welsh forward has now scored in six consecutive matches, and his renewed confidence in front of goal could be crucial as Spurs look to get back to winning ways. Johnson’s ability to exploit space and create chances from wide positions makes him a vital part of Postecoglou’s attack. His return to form comes at a crucial time for the club, who have been overly reliant on Harry Kane for goals in recent seasons, and his contributions will be key in unlocking a West Ham defence that has shown vulnerability this season.

With Johnson in form and leading the line alongside Son Heung-min, Spurs have the attacking firepower to trouble West Ham, but it will require a disciplined and focused defensive performance to ensure they don’t repeat the mistakes of last weekend.

West Ham United, like Spurs, are another club in transition this season. With Julen Lopetegui taking charge in the summer, there were high expectations for the Hammers to push on after significant investment in their squad during the transfer window. However, the early signs have been underwhelming, with West Ham managing just two wins in their opening seven matches.

Currently sitting in 12th place with eight points, West Ham's slow start has led to growing pressure on Lopetegui to deliver results. The Spaniard arrived with a strong reputation after successful stints at Sevilla and the Spanish national team, but his tenure at West Ham has not yet ignited in the way many had hoped. Nevertheless, the Hammers’ most recent outing provided some cause for optimism, as they secured their best result of the season in a hard-fought win over Aston Villa. That victory was seen as a step in the right direction, and Lopetegui will be keen to build on that momentum going into this clash against Spurs.

Despite their slow start, West Ham can take encouragement from the individual performances of Jarrad Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, both of whom have been standout players for the Hammers in recent weeks. Bowen, in particular, has been a consistent threat in attack, contributing two goals and two assists thus far. His ability to make intelligent runs and find space behind defences has been a crucial outlet for West Ham, especially in games where they have struggled to dominate possession.

Mohammed Kudus, another summer signing, has also shown glimpses of his potential, and his versatility in attacking midfield has provided Lopetegui with more options going forward. If West Ham are to take anything from Saturday’s match, they will need these two players to be at their best. Bowen’s clinical finishing and Kudus’ creative spark could prove the difference in a game that is likely to be closely contested.
