Tottenham Hotspur keen on Noni Madueke - The Hard Tackle
Description

Tottenham are reportedly interested in a move for Noni Madueke, as Chelsea could sanction a sale for the right price.

According to TBR, Noni Madueke emerged as a target for Tottenham ahead of the summer, with Chelsea reportedly open to selling the winger. Spurs are not alone in the race as Aston Villa and Newcastle United could monitor the England international’s future.

Tottenham are expected to stay active in the summer window to sign attacking talents. Ange Postecoglou needs a striker as well as a wide attacker, with some names already being linked with a move to north London. Tyler Dibling is a target, while there were links to Aston Villa star Leon Bailey at the end of the January window.

There are concerns that Brennan Johnson’s style suits Tottenham in the long-term, and while the Welsh star has been a good addition, Postecoglou might angle a move for an upgrade. Noni Madueke emerged as the latest target for Spurs, who could potentially explore a move for the attacker.

Madueke signed for Chelsea from PSV in the January window of 2023 and has been a decent acquisition with a modest output. The winger started his career on the books of Tottenham before moving to PSV as a youth player.

Spurs could angle a move for the player, although they face competition from fellow Premier League sides. Newcastle United are interested in signing Madueke, as they held talks last summer to figure out a move. Aston Villa are also keen on the £30 million Chelsea player, as they could view him as a replacement for Leon Bailey.

Can Tottenham sign Noni Madueke?

Madueke might not have strong ties with Spurs, but the chance to play for one of the big London sides and stay in the City might be appealing. He might want to fight his way back into Enzo Maresca’s thinking, although the report states the Italian manager as well as Chelsea are open to dealing for the winger.

Chelsea would ideally like a considerable fee that would see them make a healthy profit on their £30 million investment. A few years ago it might have been a problem, but Chelsea might be open to doing business with their London rivals if the price is right, as they have already done a few with Arsenal for the likes of Jorginho and Kai Havertz in recent windows.

AZ Alkmaar vs Tottenham Hotspur: Preview and Prediction

Description

AZ Alkmaar are ready to host Tottenham Hotspur in their Europa League round of 16 first-leg clash, and both teams will look for an advantage.

AZ Alkmaar will have hoped to get into shape, the sort of form that requires them to beat a top opposition like Tottenham Hotspur. However, Maarten Martens will have the weekend’s loss against Herenveen in the back of his mind when facing one of the Europa League favourites in, Spurs.

On the other hand, AZ have the momentum in the competition and even the experience of beating a top opposition in the most recent round. The Eredivisie side beat Turkish champions Galatasaray in their playoffs round, winning by an aggregate of 6-3 in the two-legged clash. They will want to face Tottenham with the same enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou will want his Tottenham Hotspur team to show a different side to their game and continue their good run in the Europa League this season. Spurs comfortably finished fourth and qualified for the round of 16 without needing a playoffs round to come here.

Postecoglou will be particularly keen to progress in this competition, as this is the only hope for silverware this season. Spurs were knocked out of the FA Cup, and there is not much hope left in the Premier League of making it into a prominent European place. There is plenty of competition in the league ahead, as Spurs are currently 13th in the standings and ten points behind the nearest European place.

Tottenham are considered one of the bookmakers’ favourites to win the competition and will probably face tougher opposition ahead. The immediate concern will be making the best of the first leg encounter with AZ and taking a solid enough lead back to North London for the reverse leg.

Spurs do come into this one after a narrow loss against Manchester City, but that may not bother Postecoglou too much. The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at the encounter ahead of the upcoming meeting between the two sides.

Team News & Tactics

AZ Alkmaar

Maarten Martens will have a few key players either out of the contest or in considerable doubt for this one. Key attacking midfielder Sven Mijnans is undoubtedly ruled out, which will be a massive blow for the Dutch side ahead of this crucial clash.

Jayden Addai will also miss out, while Mexx Meerdink, Ruben van Bommel, and Sam Westerveld are all significant doubts, although there will be a late assessment to determine their participation in the upcoming clash. Martens will continue with a 4-2-3-1 shape for this clash, with Wouter Goes and Alexandre Penetra stationed in the central defensive pairing, while Seiya Maikuma and David Moller Wolfe feature in the full-back roles.

Peer Koopmeiners and Jordy Clasie are the likely starters in the central midfield berths, with Zico Buurmeester featuring in the attacking midfield role. Ernest Poku and Mayckel Lahdo will feature in the wide positions in the attacking third, with former Tottenham man Troy Parrott leading the line for AZ in this considerable tie.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Jayden; Maikuma, Goes, Penetra, Wolfe; Koopmeiners, Clasie; Poku, Buurmeester, Lahdo; Parrott

Tottenham Hotspur

Ange Postecoglou continues to deal with a rather long list of injured players, most of whom will be out of contention for this clash. Dejan Kulusevski has become the latest to suffer a foot problem and will miss this clash against AZ, joining Richarilson and Radu Dragusin on the sidelines. At the same time, Ben Davies remains doubtful about this trip to the Netherlands.

Antonin Kinsky, Timo Werner, Fraser Forster, and Sergio Reguilon are the other four ineligible players who were left out of the UEFA Europa League squad. On the positive side, Postecoglou could have key starters Dominic Solanke, defensive duo Micky van de Ven, and Cristian Romero back in the squad, as the trio could potentially make a matchday squad.

For now, the Australian is not likely to risk either of those for this trip to AZ, meaning Archie Gray and Kevin Danso will start at the heart of the defence while Mathys Tel leads the line for Spurs. James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Bergvall are the likely starters in the midfield roles, while Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson will support Tel in the front three.

Probable Lineup (4-3-3) Vicario; Porro, Gray, Danso, Spence; Bergvall, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Tel, Son

Key Stats

AZ Alkmaar have won six of their last eight games across all competitions.

AZ Alkmaar have won ten of their last 11 games at home in all competitions.

AZ have won only two of their last 19 meetings with English clubs.

Tottenham have won three of their last four games across all competitions.

Tottenham have won seven of their last 11 games in major European competition against Dutch sides.

Player to Watch

Son Heung-min

The experienced attacker has many doubters this season, and with Tottenham out of all possible competitions, barring the UEFA Europa League, Son needs to step up in a big way. Spurs are still struggling with key absentees, as Postecoglou will look up to his skipper to deliver the goods.

A top-draw performance in the first leg of this upcoming clash will be an excellent way to prove the doubters wrong and set the tempo for the remainder of the Europa League. Tottenham are one of the bookmakers’ favourites to win the competition, although for that to happen, they will need experienced stars like Son right in the thick of the contest to perform and deliver.

Prediction

AZ Alkmaar 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

AZ Alkmaar have a good enough record on home soil and recently displayed that they can perform at the highest level against top continental opposition with their stellar two-legged win over Galatasaray. However, the prospect of facing a top English opponent will be slightly different to that of the Turkish champions, even though Tottenham have been inconsistent at best for large parts of their season.

On the other hand, Spurs will take any advantage that comes their way in this two-legged affair and will be the happier team should this game end in a draw. The prediction here is that both teams will share the spoils in a low-scoring affair, as both teams are likely to do their best in the tie’s second leg. The Hard Tackle predicts a 1-1 draw.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham eyeing €45 million Ademola Lookman move

Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman from Serie A club Atalanta this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ademola Lookman might be in line to join his fourth Premier League club in the summer transfer window. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on landing the Atalanta attacker. The three English bigwigs will likely submit bids worth around €45 million to sign the Nigerian international from the Serie A title chasers.

The rise and rise of Ademola Lookman at Atalanta

Ademola Lookman has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022. The London-born forward has finally found a stable footing, and he has gone from strength to strength during his stint with La Dea, apart from a brief skirmish with Gian Piero Gasperini.

The 27-year-old has been excellent thus far this season, contributing to 24 goals in 30 outings across all competitions. Lookman has found the back of the net 17 times and provided seven assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress at Atalanta has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Premier League bigwigs like Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur.

A man in demand

The Nigerian international has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, considering Mykhailo Mudryk’s long-term future is uncertain after failing a doping test. In addition, Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto, and Noni Madueke have blown hot and cold. So, Lookman is a viable target for Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Ademola Lookman makes sense. The London-born forward can slot in as the central striker, making him the ideal replacement for the exit-linked Darwin Nunez. However, with Mohamed Salah’s long-term future uncertain, the Reds also need a prolific wide attacker. So, Lookman can be a two-pronged solution for Liverpool.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Richarlison faces an uncertain future at the North London club heading into the summer transfer window. In addition, Son Heung-min has blown hot and cold in the 2024/25 season and is approaching the final year of his contract. So, Lookman is an option worth considering.

The three Premier League clubs are ready to cough up around €45 million to sign the 27-year-old Nigerian international from Atalanta in the summer transfer window. However, it is unclear if the Serie A title contenders are ready to accept that sum and part ways with him in the coming months.

Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur secured a first refusal option on Johnny Cardoso when they sold Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis. The Lilywhites have an option to sign Cardoso for a fee of around €25 million in the summer transfer window.

It will be interesting to see if they take the option to sign the player in the summer. The 23-year-old midfielder was recently asked about a potential move to the Premier League, and he has remained quite on the situation.

He said to AS via Sport Witness, “I don’t think about it; it’s in the hands of my father and my agent. I try to enjoy myself and to evolve. Things will happen if my performance in the team is good.”

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham come forward with an offer to sign in the summer. They could certainly use more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and the United States international would be a quality addition. For the reported valuation, he could prove to be a super investment.

Cardoso would be a useful addition

The American midfielder has proven his quality in La Liga, and he has the physical and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League as well. Spurs need more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and Johnny Cardoso will add some much needed physicality to the side as well.

The midfielder has established himself as an important player for La Liga club Real Betis, and he has a quality to develop into a key player for Tottenham as well. The North London club clearly have an advantage in the race to sign him, and they should make the most of the opportunity. Signing a player of his quality for €25 million would represent a major bargain in the long-term.

Tottenham will be hoping to fight for trophies in the coming season, and they will want to compete in the Champions League regularly. They need more depth and quality in the side. Spurs cannot pass on the opportunity to sign a proven performer like Cardoso in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing 26-year-old Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze, a target for Manchester United.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Eberechi Eze is open to joining Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, and the development will come as a major boost for the North London club. The English international is valued at £68 million, and he is on the radar of Manchester United as well.

The 26-year-old has proven himself to be a reliable performer in the Premier League, and he would improve Tottenham going forward. The Englishman will help create goalscoring opportunities, and he will add technical ability and flair to the side as well.

Tottenham need more quality and cutting-edge in the final third. James Maddison has been quite inconsistent, and Tottenham need more depth in the side. The Crystal Palace star could compete with Maddison for the starting spot. The competition for places will help both players improve and intern improve Tottenham as a team.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to pay £68 million for the player. They have the financial resources to pay a premium for the England international, and it remains to be seen what Daniel Levy decides. However, the report has claimed that Spurs might be reluctant to meet Crystal Palace’s valuation.

Tottenham have endured a disappointing season so far, and they are in the mid-table positions. They will look to bounce back strongly and do well next term. A club of their status should be competing in the UEFA Champions League regularly and fighting for domestic trophies.

Signing the right players will help them improve. It will be interesting to see if they can secure an agreement with Crystal Palace at the end of the season. The fact that the player is keen on the move will serve as encouragement for the North London club as they look to step up their interest.

Manchester United keen on Eberechi Eze

Manchester United are keen on the English international as well, and they could use more cutting edge in the final third. The 26-year-old will help create goalscoring opportunities for his teammates, and he will add some unpredictability to their attack as well.

Manchester United have more financial resources compared to Tottenham, and it will be interesting to see if they can convince the player to join them. The Red Devils have endured a disappointing season by their standards as well.

It remains to be seen whether they can finish the season strongly and bring in the right players during the summer transfer window. Whoever ends up signing the 26-year-old will have a quality performer on their hands.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur want to bring Villarreal star Ayoze Perez back to the Premier League.

According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham are interested in acquiring the services of Ayoze Perez who has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances for Villarreal in the ongoing campaign.

Perez joined the Yellow Submarine last summer from Real Betis and he is certainly enjoying life at his new club as he has 14 goals and two assists in his 20 outings. He has found the back of the net on 11 occasions in his 18 league appearances. The 31-year-old averages a goal every 98th minute in the league and his performances have certainly caught a lot of attention.

Tottenham want to sign Perez

Tottenham have taken note of his performances in La Liga and they are interested in bringing him back to England where he enjoyed decent spells at Newcastle United and Leicester City. While he is in the final phase of his career, Perez is certainly making the most out of his footballing maturity.

His ability to play between the lines, his finishing and his experience have helped him succeed at the Spanish club and Spurs believe those abilities could help them. As a result, they are ready to knock on Villarreal’s door for his signature.

Postecoglou is not satisfied with the attacking options at his disposal. He wants to add more firepower to his squad and feels the versatile Perez can certainly help their cause. His experience could come in handy, more importantly, he will add significant depth to their attack.

They see him as an interesting opportunity in the market and are ready to table an offer worth €8 million plus add-ons to lure him away from Villarreal. While he is a key figure in the Spanish club and his contract there runs until the summer of 2028, they are open to a move away as long as their financial demands are met.

Tottenham Hotspur trailing Galatasaray in the race to sign Milan Skriniar

Tottenham are in danger of missing out on defensive target Milan Skriniar due to interest from elsewhere and PSG’s issues with loan deals.

According to TBR, Tottenham could miss out on the signing of Milan Skriniar this month as PSG’s complications with loan deals are the biggest threat to their pursuit. Galatasaray are also keen on the wantaway defender, as the Spurs are looking for solutions to improve their defensive setup.

Milan Skriniar has been out of the PSG plan since the beginning of the season, with some big reports stating he could have moved out last summer. There were links to Saudi Arabia and Turkey before, but somehow, the defender has not found a solution to his problem.

The Slovakian was also linked with a return to Italy, where he played with Inter Milan before leaving the Nerrazuri on a free transfer to sign up with PSG. The summer arrival of Willian Pacho and Lucas Beraldo’s presence have rendered Skrinar surplus to requirements.

Tottenham are interested in signing Skriniar this month, with the view from north London stating they are only angling a loan deal. The proiblem here is with PSG who already have six players loaned out this season from their first team squad and have already matched the permissable limit set by Ligue 1.

This is also the reason why Randal Kolo Muani’s move to Juventus is being held up, with widespread reports stating that PSG are working towards resolving it. While the Parisians might be able to find a way to let Kolo Muani join the Italian giants, they might not be able to work out two loan deals which does put Tottenham’s persuit of Skriniar.

Tottenham still hopeful about Milan Skriniar

Apart from the loan deal issue, Spurs also face competition from Galatasaray for Skriniar. The 29-year-old Ligue 1 target could be the subject of interest from the Turkish champions, who could even present a permanent solution to sign the Slovakian.

Spurs are short on defenders and have suffered without their first-choice stars at the back. They can only sign Skriniar if PSG makes some of the loan moves permanent. They have already tried to offer Carlos Soler a cut-price deal with West Ham, but the change of manager at the London Stadium has not solved the issue. There are more players the Parisians are trying to find a solution with, as Spurs remain hopeful.

Tottenham Hotspur unlikely to sign Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United are unlikely to entertain Tottenham’s interest in the services of their attacking sensation Alejandro Garnacho.

Alejandro Garnacho’s future has been a massive talking point since the start of the winter transfer window. He has been linked with quite a few top clubs and Tottenham have emerged as a potential destination for the young winger.

But, according to a report from Football Insider, Spurs are unlikely to strike a deal with Manchester United for the Argentine international. The Red Devils will demand a massive fee if they are to sanction his departure to a direct rival.

Garnacho has started on the bench in four out of his last five league games and his future has been up in the air ever since he dropped from the squad for the derby against Manchester City.

While he is back in the mix and has been a great option on the flanks for Ruben Amorim’s team, they are still ready to sanction his departure for the right price because of their financial concern.

United consider him a key part of their first team but could be forced to sell to ease their financial situation. The Red Devils are on the verge of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. They could be forced to sell their stars to balance their books.

Tottenham keen on Garnacho, unlikely to win the race

While Kobbie Mainoo has also been linked with a move away, there are high chances of Garnacho being the one who is sacrificed. Tottenham are the ones who are interested in the United. The North London club have been looking for a new wide player since last summer but they haven’t been able to bring in the kind of profile Ange Postecoglou seeks.
