13th-Placed Tottenham Hotspur’s Injury Crisis Continues to Mar Their Season

Tottenham Hotspur lost 0-1 to Manchester City in a Premier League match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Wednesday, February 26.
The loss keeps Spurs in 13th position in the league table with 33 points from 27 matches.
As a result, Ange Postecoglou’s men run the risk of finishing inside the bottom half of the league table.
Tottenham have now lost in 14 of their 27 Premier League matches this season, which is a deplorable record to say the least.
Spurs Plagued with Injury Problems
Tottenham have been plagued by injury problems severely this season.
Their regular centre-back duo of Christian Romero and Micky van de Ven has been injured for quite some time now.
Moreover, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are also injured, which means that Tottenham’s midfield has simply not been the same.
Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke have also incurred injuries of late, seriously affecting Tottenham’s attack.
As a result, Tottenham have found it really hard to field a competitive playing XI in their recent matches.
At least five or six of their regular starters have been missing in recent times, which has not been the case with any other top club bar – maybe – Arsenal.
Postecoglou has really been unlucky in this regard and cannot really be blamed for the multitude of injuries that have affected his team.
However, his tendency to make him play a gung-ho and super-attacking style of football has not been judicious either.
There have been numerous occasions on which Spurs have suffered after taking a lead in a match owing to their refusal to alter their playing style somewhat.
Instead of becoming a bit more cautious in their approach, they continued playing with the same aggressive style that has been their approach under Postecoglou mostly.

Tottenham Must Climb Back into the Top Half to Salvage Pride
The Spurs will find it to be a Herculean effort to finish inside the top-six to ensure participation in European competitions next season.
They are 11 points adrift of the sixth-placed Newcastle United at the moment, which seems to be a pretty unassailable lead.
Injury problems notwithstanding, Tottenham’s likely finish inside the bottom half is going to be a pretty forgettable performance by any standard.
Spurs have regularly played UEFA Champions League football in the recent past and have even finished runners-up on one occasion in 2019.
In such a scenario, it should be very difficult for Postecoglou to justify his position as the Spurs’ manager.
The names of other possible candidates like Andoni Iraola and Thomas Frank have already been doing the rounds, and a further deterioration in their position will make the 59-year-old Aussie very vulnerable in his position.
That is obviously assuming that Tottenham do not win the Europa League this season. Winning the Europa League will automatically give Postecoglou immunity for a season at least.
However, given their current form, it seems very unlikely that Tottenham will be able to pull off that feat this time around.
