Amanda Staveley has not ruled-out buying a stake in another Premier League club following her departure from Newcastle United.

It was announced earlier this month that Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi would leave their roles at Newcastle United. The pair helped bring together the takeover of the club back in October 2021 with Staveley having tried on three separate occasions in the four years previous to that to end Mike Ashley’s time as owner of the club.

Following her departure from Newcastle United, it was reported by Bloomberg that PCP Capital Partners could look to make future investments in the sport and that ‘initial discussions’ over buying a minority stake in Tottenham Hotspur had taken place.

Speaking to The Athletic, Staveley refused to comment directly on those reports, but did leave the door open to potential future investment opportunities in the sport: “Not much, I’m afraid.” Staveley said about Spurs.

“My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn’t always work out exactly how you want it to. Nothing is going to replicate that. I fell in love with Newcastle, the club and the people and that can’t change, but I didn’t want to get in Newcastle’s way. It’s got to be about what’s best for Newcastle.

“Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We’re hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football. Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.

“I don’t know what my future holds, but you can never move on from the love I have for Newcastle and I would love to come back for matches. I’m a Geordie now. I’m a Yorkshire Geordie, but I will always have that chemistry and that love.”

Upon completion of the takeover in October 2021, Staveley and Ghodoussi took up numerous roles at Newcastle United as they embarked on first appointing a manager before then navigating a January transfer window that would prove to be transformative and help keep the Magpies in the Premier League.

Bryan Gil’s frustrating spell at Tottenham Hotspur is set to come to an end, albeit on a temporary basis this summer.

Gil joined Spurs in July 2021 but has made just 43 appearances in all competitions and spent two seasons back in Spain on-loan with Sevilla and Villareal. The 23-year-old is expected to leave north London again this summer with Girona his likely destination.

The La Liga side, who are part of the City Football Group, have qualified for the revamped Champions League after finishing 3rd in La Liga behind only Barcelona and champions Real Madrid. Gil is set to join Girona on-loan with the Spanish side potentially having the chance to buy him on a permanent basis.

Gil made just three Premier League appearances following the turn of the year last season and was the unfortunate player to miss a penalty against Newcastle United during their post-season friendly at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The winger may not have long to wait to exact his revenge, however, and could make his debut for Girona at St James’ Park when the Spanish side travel to the north east for a pre-season game on Friday 9 August as part of the Sela Weekender.

Newcastle United will face Girona on Friday night before taking on Stade Brestois in the Sela Cup a day later. That game will take place at 4pm on Saturday 10 August. Newcastle United Women will also play at St James’ Park when they take on AC Milan on that day with that game set to kick-off at 1pm.

Amanda Staveley’s links to investing in Tottenham Hotspur have been slammed following her departure from Newcastle United

Staveley’s departure from Newcastle United was confirmed on July 12 with 5% of her 5.7% stake being absorbed by majority owners the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund while the remaining 0.7% has gone to RB Sports & Media. PIF’s stake now stands at 85% and RB Sports & Media’s is 15%.

But Staveley has already been linked with investing in another Premier League club. According to Bloomberg, Staveley has targeted Tottenham Hotspur as a potential investment opportunity.

Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners have reportedly raised £500million to invest in football with several clubs being looked at. According to Bloomberg’s report, Staveley has held initial discussions to purchase a minority stake in Spurs with Rothschild & Co.

Ligue 1 side AS Monaco have also been listed as a potential target.

But financial expert Stefan Borson has questioned Staveley’s links to Spurs, slamming the report as ‘nonsense’.

“It sounds like nonsense to me,” Borson said via Football Insider. “It seems unlikely that she would go from a position of very significant influence to a very serious minority at Tottenham.

“Everybody in football knows Tottenham is available for investment or a sale at the right price. But they have very significant expectations on value, probably something like eight to nine times what Staveley and PIF paid for Newcastle.

“I think it’s pretty unlikely that she’s come out of Newcastle at whatever valuation she has, where she was clearly very influential and is just going to accept a very insignificant role at Spurs.”

Borson also previously suggested Staveley’s departure may have been due to the financial commitments needed at Newcastle.

“I don’t know the arrangement in terms of how they exit,” he admitted. “They have been diluted down over time and will continue to be diluted down.

“Newcastle are substantially a loss-making club on an operating level and that will continue for the foreseeable future.

“Each year that goes by, they will need investment from the parent company. I suspect Staveley and her husband [Mehrdad Ghodoussi] were not in a position to continually put up their share of the equity required every time there is a funds raise.

“At some point, they are just going to keep getting diluted down and they will eventually become irrelevant in the mix.

“I don’t know the extent to which this was all planned in the first place, but they will have always known they were going to get diluted down over time because Newcastle are going to require a huge amount of investment for quite some time before it could be even close to self-sustaining.”

Newcastle has undergone significant changes behind the scenes so far this summer. In addition to Staveley and Ghodoussi’s departure, sporting director Dan Ashworth has been replaced by Paul Mitchell while James Bunce has been appointed as the club’s new performance director.

Brad Miller has also joined the club as chief operating officer with chief executive Darren Eales confirming the club’s ‘c-suite’ team is in place to take care of the day-to-day running of the football club.

The latest transfer talk from St James Park as Newcastle United seek to aim more new faces to their squad during the summer window.

Newcastle United could reportedly add another right-back to their squad amid suggestions Kieran Trippier is ‘increasingly likely’ to leave St James Park during the summer transfer window.

The England international became the first high-profile signing following a PIF-led takeover at St James Park when he completed a £12m move to Tyneside after the Magpies had agreed a fee with then-La Liga champions Atletico Madrid. After making his debut in a shock FA Cup defeat at the hands of Cambridge United, Trippier went on to become a standard setter for the Magpies and enjoyed a remarkable first full season with the club.

With a high level of consistency, Trippier played an integral role in helping the Magpies secure a top four finish and end their two-decade wait to compete in the Champions League. The former Tottenham Hotspur right-back was also in the Magpies side that reached a first major cup final since 1999 before suffering a Wembley defeat against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Final. Although the defender remained a key part of Eddie Howe’s squad last season, he was the subject of interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in January and there have now been suggestions Trippier could join one of two Saudi Pro League clubs this summer.

Should the experienced full-back depart, Tino Livramento would be in line to become a permanent successor to Trippier on the right-hand side of Howe’s backline. Emil Krafth remains a trusted figure with the Magpies boss and would provide backup and competition for the England Under-21 star but a major decision over Harrison Ashby’s future could lie in wait as the former West Ham United youngster has failed to make a meaningful impression during his time on Tyneside.

Newcastle have been linked with a number of full-backs in recent months and reports in Italy have suggested the Magpies are particularly keen on Fiorentina star Michael Kayode. The 20-year-old enjoyed an impressive first season in the senior setup with La Viola and received praise from head coach Vincenzio Italiano after he impressed during a 4-1 win at Genoa on the opening day of the season. He said: “Kayode has a strong character, he fears nothing and it’s important when you are this young. Moreover, he is physically strong and motivated after winning the Euros. When he returned to Florence he kept the gold medal around his neck for a few days.”

Kayode is currently in England as their preparations for the new Serie A season continue with a training camp. Corriere dello Sport have reported on his future and claimed the full-back is ‘flattered’ by interest from the Premier League and revealed La Viola are open to a loan deal if a fee over an optional permanent move can be agreed. With Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal also said to be interested in the Italy Under-21 star, Fiorentina have reportedly suggested they would be open to selling Kayode if they receive an offer in excess of £24m.

Ivan Toney is reportedly prepared to run down his contract at Brentford if he does not secure a move away from the club this summer.

Toney has been linked with a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium ever since his suspension from football ended in January. A whole host of Premier League clubs have shown interest in Toney this summer with West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur among those considered frontrunners for his signature.

And whilst there is plenty of suitors for the former Newcastle United man, there has yet to be an official bid submitted for him and, according to TalkSport, Toney will run down his contract with the Bees and leave as a free agent next summer if he is not sold before the August 30 deadline. Speaking about the striker, Thomas Frank admitted that it was ‘obvious’ the 28-year-old would leave the club this summer.

Speaking in February to Danish media, via Tipsbladet, Frank said: “It is relatively obvious that Ivan Toney will probably be sold this summer. We also know what he is worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now.

“He is a really skilled striker who is in his prime football age. Personally, as a coach, I would prefer to keep Toney but one day it could be fun to see him on a top team. This winter we actually had no offers for him, but it will surprise me if there aren’t a lot of clubs that will be interested in him.”
