Tottenham tells their fans to behave themselves during their early kick-off match against West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur has issued a stern warning to its supporters regarding the use of offensive chants ahead of their Premier League match against West Ham United.

The club's concerns were sparked by recent incidents where fans sang discriminatory songs during a game against Manchester United, prompting a swift response from the club’s management.

In an email sent to season ticket holders, Spurs emphasized their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination.

The email specifically referenced two chants: one that contains lewd references to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and another targeting Manchester United’s Mason Mount with the term "rent boy," which is classified as a homophobic slur by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The club acknowledged the cooperation of fans during their last away fixture at Brighton, where there were no reports of homophobic chanting.

However, they reiterated the need for vigilance and accountability, stating that stewards would be equipped with body cameras to identify anyone engaging in unacceptable behaviour.

This proactive approach aims to ensure that offenders face the strongest possible action, reinforcing the club's commitment to creating an inclusive environment.

The warning has received support from various anti-discrimination organizations, including Spurs’ LGBT fan group, Proud Lilywhites, and the campaign group Kick It Out.

Both groups have condemned the chants, urging fans to support the club's efforts in promoting equality and respect within the sport.

The club hopes that this decisive action will encourage a more positive atmosphere at matches, allowing all fans to enjoy the game without fear of harassment or discrimination.

Spurs are determined to lead by example, fostering a culture of respect and unity among supporters.
