Alan Shearer has admitted that Wilson Odobert impressed him on his Tottenham Hotspur debut, suggesting that the winger adds something different to the Spurs side.

Wilson Odobert shines on his Spurs debut

Odobert’s signing was met with a mixed response from Spurs fans, with a few supporters questioning whether the Lilywhites should have gone for a more proven winger rather than a young, up-and-coming prospect.

However, the 19-year-old showcased on his debut just why Ange Postecoglou and the Tottenham hierarchy brought him through the door, impressing everyone with his enterprising attacking play.

His aggression and his willingness to run at the Everton defence not only helped Spurs stretch the pitch but also created a buzz around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium whenever he got on the ball.

Alan Shearer sings the praises of Odobert

The winger has received plenty of praise from Postecoglou and his Tottenham teammates, and it is now the turn of Shearer to sing the praises of the former Burnley man, with the pundit impressed by the debutant’s combination play.

The Newcastle legend told Rest is Football podcast about Odobert’s performance: “Very good, very good! I thought he was really lively, really energetic.

“He brought a different dimension. I thought, give-go, had a really good understanding of who and what they are. Yeah, I was impressed with him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is still early days and we cannot get afford to get carried away by one good performance.

However, Odobert is exactly the type of ball-carrying winger Ange would have wanted to bring through the door as his inclusion makes our attack look a lot more potent, given the movement in and around the box.

Tottenham Hotspur have today unveiled their new third kit ahead which will be used over the course of the 2024/2025 football season.

Tottenham have launched their new third kit

Nike have opted for a combination of classic and modern with the design of the kit which is green in colour, combined with a vertical Swoosh from the US sportswear giant.

Officially, the colours used are described as ‘Enamel Green/Bicoastal/White’ and there is a nod to the past with no inclusion of a more classical style club badge and the Latin version of the club motto, Audere est Facere.

Spurs’ 24/25 third kit is green with a retro vibe

Spurs have had some memorable green kits in recent times including in 2020/21 and their infamous 2018/19 shirt which they wore in the remarkable 3-2 comeback over Ajax in the Champions League semi-final.

The North Londoners struck a kit deal with Nike back in 2017 and then extended it the following year to a 15-year agreement which will last until at least 2033.

The new third kit is a significant upgrade on last season’s Taupe Haze number, hopefully, the club decide to use this year’s green kit more frequently than they did with last season’s design.

Spurs have had some memorable evenings in green kits, especially in Europe and fans will be looking for that to continue this season.

Manor Solomon is still a Tottenham Hotspur player, for now, but there are now a number of clubs in pursuit of the winger as a loan move away from North London appears to be the solution this summer.

Leeds United made to wait

It was thought last week that Solomon would be joining Leeds United on loan for the season, with Spurs insider, Paul O’Keefe, even claiming a medical test had been concluded.

However, reporter Shay Lugassi revealed on Monday that the switch could be in jeopardy after a disagreement over payment terms threatened to derail the move.

Now, a report from Football.London suggests there could be other options for Solomon. Apparently, Dutch giants Ajax have now emerged as a potential suitor for the 25-year-old in recent days, and are waiting to see what happens with the Leeds deal before looking at striking for Solomon.

The report adds that Marseille were also interested previously. Now, it will all come down to whether the long drawn out move to Leeds falls through or not.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Solomon never settled at Spurs

Having signed on a free transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer, Solomon had a bright start to his Spurs career, registering two assists in his first five games (Transfermarkt).

A meniscus injury ended Solomon’s season in early October, though, and he has not played a competitive game for the Lilywhites since.

With the arrival of Wilson Odobert, the loan extension of Timo Werner, and the emergence of Mikey Moore, it is assumed Solomon has slipped down the pecking order at Spurs now.

Spurs Web Opinion

Whatever happens, whether it be Leeds or Ajax, we have to make sure this deal gets done. It may only be a loan, but we simply do not need Solomon taking up space in this squad at all.

Football Insider reveal that Tottenham Hotspur are set to receive £4m as Ipswich Town have now reached a full agreement with Sunderland over the transfer of Jack Clarke.

Jack Clarke is set to join Ipswich

We relayed a report from Fabrizio Romano a couple of days ago regarding Clarke’s impending move to Ipswich.

The news was significant for Tottenham as the North Londoners reportedly retained a 25 per cent sell-on clause for the player when they sold him two years ago (GiveMeSport).

It turns out that the former Spurs winger is now on the cusp of returning to the Premier League, with Football Insider revealing that a full agreement has been reached between Sunderland and Ipswich.

Tottenham will receive £4m from Ipswich

The outlet claims that the newly promoted Premier League club have agreed on a deal worth an initial £15 million plus around £3m in performance-related add-ons for the 23-year-old.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The report adds that Ange Postecoglou’s men would be owed nearly £4m of the fee that the Black Cats get for Clarke, with the youngster said to have passed a medical at Portman Road ahead of his move.

Although it is a small fee, it will be a welcome boost to Tottenham’s financial records this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It will be interesting to see how Clarke does in the Premier League as the youngster’s big move to Spurs came almost too early for him.

There is no doubt that he has matured as a player since then so he stands a great chance of forging a Premier League career over the coming years.

Report: Liverpool and Man City both expected to submit late bids for Spurs target

According to Miguel Delaney’s Reading the Game newsletter (23/8/24), there is still a chance that rumoured Tottenham target Eberechi Eze could leave Crystal Palace before the transfer deadline, with the Eagles expecting bids to arrive for their star man over the coming days.

Eberechi Eze unlikely to join Tottenham

Tottenham’s chances of landing Eze appeared to be over it emerged a week ago that the release clause in the attacking midfielder’s contract had expired (Fabrizio Romano).

That means that any interested clubs would now have to enter into talks with Palace, who are reportedly quite keen to hang onto the England international.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth revealed on Last Word on Spurs a few days ago that it is going to take a mammoth offer to convince the South London club to part ways with the attacker at this stage of the transfer window.

Late move on the cards for Eberechi Eze?

However, Delaney has now revealed in his newsletter that there is still a chance that Eze could leave Selhurst Park before the end of the month.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist explained that Oliver Glasner’s men are expecting offers to arrive for their star man from both Liverpool and Manchester City, but he made no mention of Spurs.

He also adds that many other clubs, including Arsenal, have been put off by the ‘crazy’ fee that Palace want for Eze.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the way the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert have hit the ground running at Tottenham, I cannot see Spurs shelling out big money for another attacking midfielder/winger.

Postecoglou has no shortage of attacking midfielders in his squad at the moment, with Kulusevski also appearing set to feature centrally more often than out wide this season.

Report: Tottenham transfer in danger of collapsing due to payment terms

Description

Barca Times reporter Shay Lugassi reveals that Manor Solomon’s move to Leeds United could now fall through due to disagreements over payment terms.

Manor Solomon could leave Spurs

It is clear that Solomon would struggle to get too many minutes if he stayed at Hotspur Way, with Ange Postecoglou having an embarrassment of riches in the wide areas, particularly after the arrival of Wilson Odobert.

That is why Solomon has been backed to seal a loan exit from Spurs before the transfer deadline, with various sources reporting a couple of days ago that he was on the verge of a switch to Leeds.

Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe revealed on Saturday that the Israel international is edging closer to a move to Elland Road, with a medical planned for Sunday. The same information was also later backed up by Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Joe Donnohue.

Manor Solomon to Leeds could collapse

However, Lugassi has now taken to social media to state that the transfer might collapse in the final stages.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist explains that even though the 25-year-old has passed a medical at Elland Road, there are disagreements between Spurs and Leeds regarding the financial compensation.

Lugassi adds that this might open the door for others to enter the race, with Solomon’s camp thought to be open to a move elsewhere.

Spurs Web Opinion

I highly doubt that Tottenham would be asking for a sizable loan fee for Solomon, particularly considering they signed him on a free transfer.

Perhaps, the Championship side are unwilling to cover the winger’s wages for the duration of his stay.

Report: Investor wants to buy £650m stake in Spurs

Description

According to The Sun, former Newcastle United co-owner, Amanda Staveley, backed by money from the Middle East, is now stepping up a bid to buy a stake in Tottenham Hotspur.

Amanda Stavely left Newcastle this year

Staveley, who brought shares in Newcastle as part of the club’s takeover in 2021, left the Tyneside club earlier this summer.

It has now emerged that the 51-year-old is putting together a fresh funding team to buy a minority stake in Tottenham. The bid is expected to be backed by some ‘serious money’ from the Middle East.

Stavely would not even be required to get rid of her Newcastle shares before investing in Tottenham as they fall below the 9.9 per cent limit for holding a stake in two different Premier League clubs.

£650m deal for Tottenham Hotspur?

The report explains that while the aim is to initially buy a small stake in Spurs, the group will eventually want to buy even more of the North London side.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Sun claim that ENIC and Daniel Levy are open to selling a stake in Tottenham and could thus hold discussions with Staveley.

The publication adds that Spurs are valued at £2.42 billion by Forbes, with a 25 per cent stake thus expected to cost around £650m.

Spurs Web Opinion

A minority sale of Tottenham would be a huge boost for the Lilywhites as it would give them the capital needed to invest significantly into the first-team, which would come as a huge competitive advantage to the club in the PSR era.

The only worry some Spurs fans may have is the involvement of the Middle East and exactly where the investment is coming from – from a moral standpoint.

Dominic Solanke was delighted to see his teammates thump Everton, with the striker taking to social media to express his delight after the 4-0 win.

Solanke misses Spurs win through injury

Solanke looked extremely lively in his Spurs debut against Leicester City last week but the centre-forward would have been disappointed by the fact that he failed to convert the chances he fell for him.

The striker would have been hoping to put things right on Saturday but unfortunately, an ankle injury ruled him out of the clash against Everton.

Fortunately, the injury is not serious, with Ange Postecoglou even admitting that the 26-year-old could be back for the clash against Newcastle United next Sunday (Football.London).

Spurs Web Opinion

Solanke would have loved to play in this game, given the number of chances Spurs fashioned.

Finance expert thinks Tottenham want to match Liverpool's £272m achievement

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire believes that Daniel Levy will have his sights set on improving Tottenham’s commercial income and catching up to Liverpool, who have made major strides in that regard over recent years.

Daniel Levy has made strides off the pitch at Spurs

Levy understandably comes in for a lot of criticism from some quarters of the Spurs fan base due to the club’s lack of silverware over the last decade and a half, with the Lilywhites last lifting a trophy all the way back in 2008.

However, there is no doubt that off the pitch, Spurs have been a success story, with the club managing to increase their revenue streams substantially over the last two decades.

Levy will argue that doing so was the only way Tottenham could dine at the same table as some of the elite clubs across Europe, with the North London side flexing their financial muscles in the transfer window over the last few years.

Maguire points out that on-pitch success under Jurgen Klopp has enabled Liverpool to substantially grow their commercial income, suggesting that Tottenham will now be looking to catch up to the Reds.

MORE SPURS STORIES

He told TBR Football: “The commercial department is absolutely critical for Spurs. We have seen commercial revenues triple since the move to the new stadium.

“With Daniel Levy in charge, he will be a hard taskmaster. He will have someone trying to serve up long-term global partners and region-specific partners for Spurs.

“They will try to use that additional money to improve things on the pitch. Liverpool have doubled their commercial income from 2017 from £135m to £272m. That’s an incredible achievement.

“The Jurgen Klopp factor is built into that, there’s winning the Champions League, winning the Premier League, the rivalry they have with Man City and the excitement that has brought them to the top of the league.

“All of that has been monetised by the club. They are owed a huge amount of credit. At the same time, Spurs have tripled their revenue from commercial sources. It’s now £228m. Can they catch up with Liverpool? It’s a case of running to stand still to a certain extent.

“Liverpool certainly have growth in front of them. Spurs have some advantages in terms of the London premium, which allows them to charge more for matchday and non-matchday activities, for instance. Harringay Council meanwhile have given them a license to double the number of concerts and events they hold.

“You could potentially have more non-football events than football events taking place at the stadium. That can’t be replicated at Anfield given the issues with the pitch and so on.

“There is also the fact that Spurs’ stadium was built as a multi-function venue, whereas Anfield is first and foremost a football stadium that has some capacity to host other events.

“So Spurs are certainly in a very strong position. But what Liverpool have that Spurs don’t is a very global brand and appeal thanks to the success of Shankly, Paisley, Dalglish and so on. That has created a huge fanbase across the globe. And that in and of itself is very attractive to sponsors.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy will be hoping that Postecoglou proves to be their version of Jurgen Klopp and is able to elevate the team to a level where they compete for major honours every year.

Fabrizio Romano says to keep an eye on Spurs this week

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Fabrizio Romano has named Tottenham Hotspur as ones to watch out for in the final week of the transfer window, suggesting that the North London club might have another surprise up their sleeve.

Tottenham have been secretive this season

In previous transfer windows, particularly the ones in which Fabio Paratici was playing a key role in recruitment, most of Tottenham’s top transfer targets for each position tended to be public knowledge.

However, in sharp contrast, Spurs have acted in secrecy this summer, with the media barely catching a whiff of the club’s negotiations until it gets to an advanced stage.

Tottenham’s capture of Wilson Odobert was particularly striking for the stealthy nature of the operation, with the Lilywhites announcing the signing completely out of the blue, with not a single journalist or outlet reporting that the 19-year-old was a target for Ange Postecoglou’s men.

Spurs are ones to watch this week

Romano has now pointed out that the same could happen again over the next few days, suggesting that the North London side might be ones to keep an eye on in the final days of the market.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Look, for Tottenham, I think there is still a possibility, yes, maybe to find an opportunity. For example, a left-back could be an opportunity that they could follow in the final days (of the window).

“Then I would keep the door open for Tottenham because they’ve been very good at keeping all the targets quiet this summer. So some of the deals they did were very, very silent, working in the background.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Tottenham are keeping their talks under wraps suggests that Johan Lange and co are not relying on too many intermediaries in their transfer pursuits this summer.

That explains why the likes of Romano and Ornstein have not been able to catch a whiff of what’s going on at times.
