Spurs consider surprise move for jet

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a Brighton & Hove Albion right back who they have been linked with a move for over a number of years.

Tariq Lamptey has been linked with Spurs previously

Tariq Lamptey is the kind of defender Tottenham fans are used to seeing play for the club. As an attacking minded player, he is able to operate in the wing back role, as well as a right back and can even chip in on the left when he is needed to.

And Lamptey has rapid pace which helps him move the ball quickly up the wing, with the 24-year-old reaching 36.60km/h (22.74mph) during his first season at Brighton (Sussex Live).

Despite this, his attacking statistics in the Premier League are modest, with only one goal and eight assists in 90 appearances, which is low in comparison to current Spurs starter Pedro Porro (Premier League).

And he has struggled to break back into Brighton’s first team this season, making just one league appearance off the bench against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Although he made use of those 10 minutes, getting an assist, while he also has a goal to his name in the Carabao Cup.

Lamptey to Tottenham speculation resurfaces

According to Football Transfers, Spurs are considering making an attempt to sign Lamptey, who Brighton may sell in January to avoid losing him for free next summer when his contract expires.

With uncertainty over Porro’s future and neither Archie Gray or Djed Spence receiving much game time, Ange Postecoglou may look to sign a new right back, but they will need to beat Everton to secure Lamptey’s signature, as they are also interested in him.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The rumour will come as a shock to some, as Lamptey was first linked with a move to Tottenham over three years ago (Sky Sports).

Lamptey would be a downgrade on Pedro Porro

It would have been exciting news if Tottenham had announced the signing of Lamptey a few years ago, but this is no longer the case.

Lamptey is definitely a downgrade on Pedro Porro and the fact he is not starting in the league for Brighton should speak volumes.

Ultimately there is a player there, but Lamptey would struggle as a first choice player at Tottenham and signing him for squad depth makes little sense when Spence and Gray are already at the club.

Gary Neville makes claim about Daniel Levy's Tottenham intentions

Gary Neville has shared his opinion on what Daniel Levy’s intentions are at Tottenham and has answered whether the club can challenge for trophies under the current ownership.

Daniel Levy is not a popular man among Spurs fans

Daniel Levy will point to how far the club have come both on and off the pitch in his two decades as chairman, with Spurs going from a lower mid-table team to a top-six side, and also becoming one of the highest revenue generators in world football.

However, the major black mark against the Spurs chairman will always be the lack of silverware, with the Lilywhites having won just one trophy during his time at the club.

The 62-year-old has gone through many different styles of managers during his time in North London and he will be desperately hoping that Ange Postecoglou is the one to end the club’s 16-year trophy drought.

Gary Neville believes Daniel Levy wants to sell

Neville believes that given the type of teams that Tottenham are up against, they need new owners to be able to compete for the biggest trophies.

The pundit suggested that Levy and ENIC are now looking to sell the club so that Spurs can get the resources needed to go toe-to-toe with the biggest sides in the division.

The former Man Utd defender said on It’s called Soccer: “If Tottenham had won four trophies in the past 10 years, that would be a fantastic period for Tottenham. If Ange can win an FA Cup this year and build on that with maybe a League Cup or a top four finish, that’s a successful period.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“You’re up against giants as Tottenham. They’re probably trying to sell the club I would imagine, they’re probably trying to bring in this huge owner to fund the team and spend the money that the Chelsea’s the Manchester United’s, City’s and Arsenal’s have spent. That will not happen under the current ownership.”

The era of owner-funded teams are over

Given the new financial landscape that football clubs are operating in, the era of owners bankrolling big-money transfers are over. Under the new financial rules, a team’s ability to spend on transfers and wages is directly tied to its revenue.

In fact, we have seen that even Man City and Newcastle have not been able to spend freely in recent transfer windows and have had to operate resourcefully.

Spurs cannot compete against the best teams in the world simply by being bought by a billionaire. It is more important than ever to have smart operators at the top who have a clear vision.

Liverpool’s model is the one that Tottenham and other clubs in the Premier League should be looking to follow.

Sam Allardyce pinpoints what he believes Ange Postecoglou is 'not very good' at

Sam Allardyce believes that Ange Postecoglou has one major weakness, which is the main reason why the media continues to question him.

Ange Postecoglou was not a happy man last Sunday

As one would expect, Ange Postecoglou was not a happy man following Tottenham’s shock 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town last Sunday, with disappointment apparent in his voice and his body language following the final whistle.

The Australian protected the players once again, taking responsibility for the result and insisting that it is up to him to make Spurs a more consistent side (Football.London).

However, Allardyce believes that one of Postecoglou’s traits is not helping his cause with the media.

Sam Allardyce on Postecoglou’s interviews

The former Bolton boss suggested that the Tottenham head coach is not a good interviewee and does not come across well when he speaks to the press.

He insisted that his critics will continue to question him if he does not change the way he addresses the media.

Allardyce said on Seaman Says podcast: “He (Postecoglou) must be totally different on the training ground than he is as an interviewee. You know, there’s a certain level you have to be pretty good at, otherwise people start questioning you.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“He might be the best coach or manager in the world, but people will question you because his interviews are not very good.”

Alan Pardew agrees with Allardyce

Allardyce is not the only former Premier League manager who has been critical of the way Postecoglou comes across in his interviews.

Alan Pardew admitted a few days that he has never seen Postecoglou as down as he was following his side’s loss to Ipswich, and he advised the Australian that his demeanour has to change after bad results.

The 63-year-old told talkSPORT: “I watched Ange’s interview after the game and he looked crestfallen. I’ve never seen him look that down – he looked really down today and that’s a worry for me because we are only 11 games into the season.

“When you have a bad performance as a manager looking crestfallen isn’t the greatest gift that you can give to your fans. You need to say ‘we didn’t have a good day, we had issues and we’re going to bounce back next week’.”

More details are emerging regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s next away kit for the 2025/26 season, including confirmation of the colourway, and a tantalising concept design.

Nike set to go grey for Spurs next season

It has long been rumoured what next season might hold for Tottenham Hotspur’s away kit, but it seems the details are coming along nicely now.

Previous reports had suggested Spurs and Nike would team-up to put together a black and grey kit for the 2025/26 season.

Now, as per Footy Headlines, a site renowned for sharing reputable leaks and information about the latest football kits, has shared more word of Tottenham’s next design, confirming the away strip will be black, grey, and white.

As you can see from the image above, the kit will be a split between black and grey with an asymetrical design, bearing white details for the Nike logo and the AIA sponsor.

Of course, as it says in the post, this is a very speculative concept design, so we should take this with a pinch of salt.

A callback to Tottenham’s 2012/13 kit – shades of Bale

Fans will recognise instantly the influence for this shirt design as the iconic Tottenham Hotspur third kit from the 2012/13 season, made by Under Armour.

The split of the black and grey was iconic at the time, made even more so by the talents of Gareth Bale who made the kit so memorable.

However, the new concept looks even more interesting, thanks to what appears to be a really nice, interesting texture, and the way the black and grey interact in the middle of the shirt.

It will still be some time before we get an actual, official design, but for now, this concept art has us dreaming and ready to pre-order already.

Journalist reveals Tottenham's stance of issues with underperforming players

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are aware of why their performances have not been consistent, with the current squad having one major shortcoming.

Tottenham’s inconsistency under Ange Postecoglou

We have already seen plenty of times that when Spurs are at their best, they are few better teams in the Premier League, with the Lilywhites being irresistible when things click for them.

However, the one theme under Ange Postecoglou‘s tenure has been the side’s inconsistency, with Tottenham looking incapable of stringing really good performances together.

Some Spurs fans feel that the inconsistency stems from the high-risk approach that the side takes, but Pitt-Brooke suggests that there is a bigger issue at play.

Tottenham are aware of their shortcomings

The journalist has pointed out that the issue comes down to the players, with the Tottenham first-team squad full of players who blow hot and cold.

Pitt-Brooke remarked that even Spurs’ best players are not ones who can be relied upon to produce consistently, adding that the club are aware that this is an issue they need to address.

He said on The View From The Lane podcast: “I think there’s a big problem, which is that the players are so inconsistent. Even the good players are not capable of doing it week in, week out. And I know this is a problem which, they’re certainly aware of inside the club.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“All the guys who you need to be at their best week in, week out, they’re not really, you know, Son is not having a good season, I don’t think. Admittedly, he’s had injuries, obviously, I think he has credit in the bank for being so good for the last nine years, but he’s not having a good season.

“Romero is not having a good season. Maddison is so inconsistent, he’s no longer in the team. Kulusevski is the one who is having a good season, but, you know, he can’t win games all by himself every single week. And so I think overall, there are big, big questions about the consistency of the players.”

The current Spurs squad do not have proof of work

The current Tottenham squad is an extremely young one and while a lot of players have a high ceiling, we have not seen much evidence that they can deliver consistently.

We do not know if the likes of Destiny Udogie, Pape Matar Sarr, Brennan Johnson, and others can deliver week-in, week-out over the medium to long-term.

In fact, even someone like Cristian Romero has had just one outstanding season despite now being into his fourth campaign at the club.

Spurs summer signing admits he has had a mixed start since joining club

One of Tottenham’s summer acquisitions has admitted that he has plenty of room for improvement after a mixed start to his time at the Premier League side.

Bergvall still finding his feet at Spurs

Lucas Bergvall arrived at Tottenham with a huge reputation, with many back in his home country believing that the youngster has the potential to develop into the next big Swedish superstar.

Some Spurs fans understandably got carried away with the performances that the 18-year-old was delivering in pre-season, with many expecting him to become a first-team fixture.

However, the challenges associated with making the step up to a club of Tottenham‘s stature were always going to be considerable, and that is how it has proven to be for the teenager, who is still waiting for his first Premier League start.

Lucas Bergvall’s admission about his own performances

Bergvall has been called up to the Sweden squad for their upcoming Nations League matches, and he has been speaking to the press in his country about the start he has had to his time in North London.

The youngster conceded that his performances have been mixed so far, revealing that he was not happy with the display he delivered in Tottenham’s 3-2 loss to Galatasaray last week.

Bergvall told Fotbollskanalen: “There have been many matches recently and a lot of rotations in the team. It still feels good. I’m getting warmed up. It’s been a bit up and down. It was a very good game against AZ and then a less good game, really, against Gala [Galatasaray].”

Bergvall reveals he has learned a lot at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou came to the Swede’s defence following his side’s loss in Turkey, insisting that it would have been a learning experience for the midfielder to have played in such a big European fixture at a difficult away ground (Tottenham’s official website).

Bergvall concurs with his manager, admitting that it was an eye-opening experience for him and the other youngsters in the Tottenham squad.

The midfielder said about the clash against Galatasaray: “Yes, it’s clear that there is a lot I can take from that match. It was a tough game for the whole team. We were not up to par.

“We have to do everything we can to improve for next time, because these are the kind of games you play in Europe. With an incredible setting, a lot of fans and a good opposing team.

“Especially us youngsters who haven’t played that many games in Europe can learn from it. It’s part of a career. It’s important to capitalise on it.”

Spurs could face bidding war with two London rivals for midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to join two of their Premier League rivals in the race for a Ligue 1 starlet’s signature, with a potential bidding war now in the offing.

Spurs want to bolster their midfield options

Right from the summer, we have been hearing reports that Ange Postecoglou wants to add an energetic number eight to his squad.

Over the past few months, it has been widely reported that Lille’s Angel Gomes is one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist (HITC).

It has now emerged that the Lilywhites also have their eye on another one of the Ligue 1’s best young midfielders, who has won several admirers with his constant displays since the start of last season.

Spurs may get involved in a bidding war for Andy Diouf

The player in question is Lens midfielder Andy Diouf, who Tottenham are thought to be big fans of, with GiveMeSport revealing that Spurs are keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old’s performances.

The report states that Crystal Palace and West Ham had already shown interest in the Frenchman, with Postecoglou’s side being the latest Premier League side to enter the race.

The report says that Tottenham are willing to try and lure the midfielder to N17 and that they are not afraid of getting involved in a bidding war with the Eagles and the Hammers.

West Ham and Crystal Palace are also keen on the Lens player

GiveMeSport state that Spurs are showing signs that they might be prepared to up the ante for Diouf in the January window.

Tottenham’s emergence has reportedly left both West Ham and Palace concerned as both clubs were ready to offer the midfielder a route into the Premier League.

The publication adds that should the France Under-21 international continue to develop the way he is, a move to England is very much on the cards for him during the upcoming transfer window.

Tottenham free up transfer funds for key position ready for the January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur have built up ‘huge’ transfer funds, as the position they are looking to strengthen the most in January is named.

Tottenham’s defensive problems have been clear

While Tottenham statistically have the best attack in the Premier League this season, their defence leaves much to be desired. Conceding 13 goals, Spurs have not come close to league leaders, Liverpool, who have let in just six, and they have the joint worst defence out of the so called big six clubs (Sofascore).

With Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero both recently sidelined with injuries, Spurs have had to play with a centre-back pairing of Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies, and they struggled, both in their distribution from the back and in fulfilling their defensive duties, as Spurs were torn to shreds in the first half against Galatasary in the Europa League.

And even Tottenham’s first choice defenders have not been exempt from criticism. Romero’s Instagram post after the Ipswich defeat was met with comments slamming the Spurs vice captain for his performances, while he continued to invoke the wrath of some supporters when he was pictured smiling with Argentina teammate, Lisandro Martinez, later that day (@lisandromartinezzz).

Tottenham are looking to sign a new centre-back

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are looking to improve their defence and have made ‘huge’ funds available to sign a new centre-back, as they look to climb back up the Premier League table after dropping to tenth.

Their need for a defender has grown since they sold Joe Rodon, Eric Dier and Japhet Tanganga in the summer, but did not replace them, as they failed to get any deals over the line for their top transfer targets.

And the position is very much a priority for Spurs, with Ange Postecoglou reportedly desperate to secure a new defender to play in the centre of the park (Football Insider).

Tottenham need a new centre-back as early as January

Davies has served Tottenham well, but when Spurs are having to start him alongside Dragusin, who has failed to live up to how highly rated he is by his outspoken agent, there is a major problem and it needs fixing.

Although Spurs have some promising prospects in Luka Vuskovic, who will join the club next summer, and Ashley Phillips who is currently on loan at Championship outfit Stoke City, they need someone who will help bring stability to their backline at the nearest possible opportunity.

Journalist reveals what the 'noises' are from Spurs amid inconsistent performances

Description

The Standard reporter Dan Kilpatrick has shed light on what the decision-makers at Tottenham are likely thinking about the current project underway at the club, in light of the side’s struggles this season.

Has Ange Postecoglou exhausted all of his goodwill?

Now that Ange Postecoglou is into his second season at Spurs, it is fair to say that patience is now running thin among a section of the Tottenham fanbase amid some frustrating results and a lack of consistency.

The Australian’s cause has not been helped by the bold statements he has made about the side’s trophy ambitions this season as he has repeatedly asserted that he will have failed if the club do not win silverware (Daily Mail).

On the evidence of what we have seen so far this term, Tottenham are a considerable distance away from challenging the best sides in the Premier League, but Kilpatrick believes those within the N17 boardroom are calm about recent setbacks.

Spurs see the Postecoglou era as a long-term project

The journalist explained that even though the ambition is to win trophies right now, the club see the current project as a medium to long-term one.

Kilpatrick claimed that the approach is to build a team that can compete for the next five years, which is why they are committed to seeing this through.

When asked how Daniel Levy and co see the recent setbacks, The Evening Standard journalist said on The Tottenham Way podcast: “So I don’t know what Levy and the board are thinking. To be honest, I think all the noises from the club, that they sort of accept that this is a medium-term venture.

MORE SPURS STORIES

“I mean, they’ve talked about being successful in the here and now, but they’ve also talked about building a squad, that they want to be successful in four or five years’ time.

“And that’s been obvious in the age profile of the players they’ve signed, the three teenagers over the summer, two more coming next year.

“So I think that there is a kind of commitment to see this through, or at least keep saying where it goes. But again, I can understand anyone associated with Spurs who’s losing a bit of patience or getting frustrated.”

Fans have to see the bigger picture with Ange

While the frustration with the team’s inconsistency is understandable, there are still plenty of signs that Tottenham are moving in the right direction.

Five defeats in 11 league matches looks extremely bad on paper, but some of those games, including the ones against Newcastle and Arsenal, could have easily gone in the other direction.

Spurs sit just three points off third place at the moment and are still going strong in the cup competitions. There is more than enough evidence in our performances and metrics this season to suggest that we will be in and around the top four places by the end of the campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur are currently the best team in the Premier League at one crucial thing

Description

Tottenham Hotspur’s season is not exactly going to plan when it comes to the Premier League, but Ange Postecoglou’s side are top of the pile in a very interesting statistic.

Tottenham Hotspur are giving no space away

When you think about Ange Postecoglou’s style of football, the idea of a high intensity press is probably one of the first things that come to mind.

We see it from the front to the back, with Dominic Solanke leading the charge in attack, hard-working midfielders like Dejan Kulusevski and Yves Bissouma controlling the middle of the park, and that infamous high line in defence, too.

But, while results haven’t always gone Tottenham’s way, data from Hudl Statsbomb on Twitter/X reveals Spurs are the best in the league when it comes to denying their opponents space.

Judging by the graphics used to display the data, Spurs are only giving a small amount of space in the right full-back area. The rest of the pitch, it appears Tottenham are suffocating their opponent and not giving them an inch to play in.

Only Bournemouth come close to the kind of pressure Spurs are putting on their opponents. Meanwhile it would appear Wolves, Southampton, and Ipswich Town, three teams occupying the bottom four places in the league, are the teams offering up the most space for their opponents.

MORE SPURS STORIES

What is going wrong for Tottenham, then?

So, with all this pressure and the way Tottenham are limiting the teams they play, why are the Lilywhites sitting in tenth place in the Premier League table?

The truth is, Spurs are not all that far away from the top four right now, and if it weren’t for some shoddy defending and a lack of composure in front of goal at times, results would have gone their way.

It would appear, based on pretty much every bit of data and statistical analysis, that Postecoglou’s system and style of play should work, and in time, it will hopefully become more consistently successful.
