Saturday’s Football Tips: New Guardiola deal is bad news for struggling Spurs

Description

Manchester City went into the international break on their worse run under Pep Guardiola but the bookies are banking on them roaring back to life at home to Tottenham Hotspur today.

Some people put a shock run of four successive defeats down to the uncertainty over Guardiola's future but the two-year contract extension he agreed on Thursday night has given City a massive boost.

Betano make the Premier League champions their 9/20 hot favourites for an Etihad win today and it's hard to disagree with Spurs looking so flaky.

Ange Postecoglou's side lost at home to Ipswich Town before the break and will need a vastly improved performance to stand any chance against Guardiola's men.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur top betting tips

Tottenham have been a bit of a bogey team for Manchester City in recent years but most of the defeats and draws have come in London. On their last nine visits to the Etihad, Spurs have come out on top just once so I'm going to combine a City win with BTTS at 11/8 with Betano.

The international break has given Kevin De Bruyne more time to build up his fitness and he should start here after three cameos off the bench. The Belgian is 6/4 at William Hill for an assist and that looks good value if he does get the nod from Guardiola.

Tottenham always have a go and there should be chances at both ends, with City's defence looking uncertain all season. Dominic Solanke is set to lead the line for Postecoglou's men and looks good value at evens with Bet365 just to have a shot on target.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest top betting tips

Some pundits have written Arsenal off for the title already and the Gunners desperately need to get three points on the board today when in-form Nottingham Forest visit the Etihad.

A horror run of just two wins in five games in all competitions has knocked Mikel Arteta's side out of their stride just when it looked like they were ready to go one step further in the title race.

But they now have a much kinder run of fixtures and will be looking to eat into Liverpool's nine-point lead, starting with the visit of Forest.

Only goal difference is keeping Nuno Espirito Santo's side below Arsenal in the table but Betano make them 15/2 outsiders at the Emirates.

I'd imagine Nottingham Forest will sit back and look to hit on the break so I'm going to bet on the corner count racking up for the Gunners. Backing Arsenal at -4 in the corner handicap pays 7/5 at Unibet while the same firm price over 7.5 home flag kicks at 13/10.

Martin Odegaard's return to fitness is a big boost for Arteta and the skipper is 5/2 at Bet365 to provide an assist.

Leicester City vs Chelsea top betting tips

The lunchtime game in the Premier League is a tasty one as Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca returns to his old stomping ground in Leicester.

The bookies reckon the Italian will come back to haunt his old club, with Betano making the Blues their 9/20 hot favourites.

I don't think the result is as big a foregone conclusion as the bookies are making out but Chelsea's superior quality up front should make the difference.

Noni Madueke's confidence will be up after impressing for England during the international break and he's a tempting 6/5 at Bet365 to either score or assist.

Foxes stopper Wout Faes can often be a bit rash so the Belgian could be worth backing for a card at 25/4 with Unibet.

Heart of Midlothian vs Celtic top betting tips

Celtic have been rampant in the SPFL Premiership so far this season but they are now heading into their toughest spell of the season, with trips to Tynecastle, Pittodrie and Ibrox on the horizon amid a busy Champions League schedule.

Taking on Hearts in the capital is a tricky one after the international break, especially with Celtic's influential Japanese trio only reporting back on Friday after long-haul flights.

I fancy BTTS in this one but it only pays 7/10 with Betano. Adding on over 2.5 goals boosts the odds to evens and that looks worth a punt.

This fixture is often fiery and we saw two penalties and a red card when Celtic lost 2-0 on their last visit to Tynecastle. Over 47.5 booking points looks good at 6/5 with Betfred.

For a long-odds option, combining cards for midfield adversaries Malachi Boateng and Callum McGregor pays 16/1 at Bet365.

Dominic Solanke over 0.5 shots on target Evens Bet365

Arsenal -4 corner handicap 7/5 Unibet

Noni Madueke goal or assist 6/5 Bet365

Long shot

Malachi Boateng and Callum McGregor to be carded 16/1 Bet365

The international break came at a good time for Manchester City and the Premier League champions will be looking to get out of their rut when they return to action with a clash against inconsistent Tottenham Hotspur.

Pep Guardiola was left reeling for the first time in years as City lost four successive games in all competitions, a horror run that started with an EFL Cup loss to Spurs as Ange Postecoglou's side brought up a bet for me.

That defeat wasn't a major surprise, with the City boss resting most of his big hitters, but it was a shock to see the champions crashing to a 4-1 loss at Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

Bournemouth and Brighton also inflicted stunning league losses on Guardiola's side, leaving them five points behind leaders Liverpool, who are now 13/10 favourites for the crown.

Now Manchester City, boosted by the news their manager has signed a new one-year-deal, need to bounce back with a win over a Tottenham side who also went into the international break on a downer after losing 2-1 at home to Ipswich.

Postecoglou's side just can't find any consistency and if they suffer another loss at the Etihad, the Aussie might find himself coming under serious pressure for being all style and no substance.

How the bookies view it: City ready to roar again

Despite being in dismal form, Manchester City are red-hot favourites for this one at just 9/20 with Betano. Tottenham Hotspur are 9/2 outsiders and the draw pays 15/4.

Recent head to head: Will the curse strike again?

Spurs have been a bit of a bogey team for Guardiola's side, with Manchester City winning just five of the last 13 meetings. Most of the good results for Tottenham have come in London though and they've only won once in their last nine trips to the Etihad.

Players to watch: Kevin sent for Pep

One of the few positives in recent games for City was the return of talisman Kevin De Bruyne. After cameos off the bench in their last two matches, the Belgian playmaker could be unleashed from the start here. He's 85/40 with Betano for anytime scorer but an assist is more likely and that pays 13/8 at Bet365.

Dominic Solanke is showing signs of hitting top form for Spurs and will fancy his chances against a defence that has been leaking goals. The striker is 2/1 at Betano for anytime scorer.

Probable line-ups

Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and John Stones all sat out England duty due to injuries and are doubts for this game. Guardiola is also sweating on the fitness of Jeremy Doku, Matheus Nunes, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake, while Rodri, Oscar Bobb and Ruben Dias remain sidelined.

Rodrigo Betnacur starts his long suspension for racial comments while Cristian Romero and Timo Werner are fitness doubts. Mickey van de Ven, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert miss out with injuries.

Manchester City: Ederson, Walker, Gvardiol, Ake, Lewis, Kovacic, B Silva, Savinho, De Bruyne, Foden, Haaland.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario, Dragusin, Udogie, Romero, Porro, Son, Johnson, Sarr, Bissouma, Solanke, Kulusevski.

Anything else catch the eye?

With both managers committed to attack we should always see goals when these sides collide, yet BTTS has failed to land in three of the last five meetings. Most of the thrillers have come at the Etihad, though, with five goals or more in each of the last three meetings there.

That makes me think we will see plenty of action in this one and the bookies agree, with BTTS and over 2.5 goals paying just 13/20 at Betano. There's more value in backing over 1.5 first-half goals at 20/21.

Both sides have been racking up heaps of corners so I also like over 12 flag kicks at 5/4 with Bet365. Yves Bissouma will probably replace the banned Bentancur in midfield and appeals at 13/8 for a card at Bet365 if he starts.

Galatasaray vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction and Betting Tips

Tottenham Hotspur remain favourites for the UEFA Europa League but face their toughest test yet with a trip to Turkey to face a star-studded Galatasaray side.

The bookies had Ange Postecoglou's side in the box seat before a ball was kicked and they still lead the betting at just 4/1 after wins over Qarabag, Ferencvaros and AZ Alkmaar.

The Spurs gaffer was feeling the heat a little after some poor Premier League results but has got the fans back onside in the last week with rousing home wins over Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Performances have been more patchy on the road and Tottenham Hotspur will need to play well to avoid defeat against a Galatasaray side that was assembled to play in the Champions League.

A surprise loss to Young Boys in the play-offs saw the Turks drop down to the Europa League instead and they've made a decent start, with wins over PAOK Salonika and Elfsborg either side of a disappointing draw with Latvian side Rigas.

Okan Buruk's side have won their last four in all competitions, including a weekend derby triumph over Besiktas, so their tails will be up for the visit of Postecoglou's side.

How the bookies view it: Galatasaray decent value at 11/8

This is a tricky one to call but Betano make Galatasaray the narrowest of favourites at 11/8, with Tottenham priced 6/4 and the draw at 27/10. Given Postecoglou has often played a few youngsters in the Europa League, the Turks look pretty good value.

Head to head: English jinx for the Turks

These sides have never faced off before in Europe but Galatasaray don't have a good record against English opposition. They've won just four of their 23 ties, losing 10 and drawing the other nine.

Players to watch: To Victor the spoils

Galatasaray pulled off a transfer coup by landing Victor Osimhen on loan from Napoli and he has scored four times in his last four outings. The Nigerian is 5/4 at Betano for a goal and that looks decent value provided he isn't rested.

Postecoglou will probably make changes and James Maddison could come in after a scoring cameo off the bench on Sunday. The playmaker is 13/10 at Bet365 to either score or assist.

Probable teams

Tottenham's win over Aston Villa came at a cost with Cristian Romero and Richarlison both forced off in the second half. They join Mickey Van de Ven, Wilson Odobert and Djed Spence on the sidelines.

Defender Ismail Jakobs remains out for Galatasaray while boss Buruk may consider freshening things up a little after a draining derby match.

Galatasaray: Muslera; Ayhan, Sanchez, Bardakci, Yılmaz; Torreira, Demirbay; Sallai, Akgun; Icardi, Osimhen.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario; Gray, Dragusin, Davies, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison; Johnson, Son, Werner.

Anything else catch the eye?

This should be a cracker as Postecoglou always sets up to attack and Galatasaray boast a potent forward line. The bookies are certainly banking on a goalfest, with BTTS just 4/11 at Betano and over 2.5 goals a tiny 2/5. Over 3.5 strikes just gets you over evens at 21/20 with Betano.

Turkish sides have a reputation for putting the boot in but we've only seen eight yellow cards in total across Galatasaray's three Europa League games. Tottenham have only collected two cards themselves in Europe this term so it could pay to be against a busy night for the ref. Backing under 47/5 booking points pays 5/4 with Betfred.

The corner count could rack up though, with six of the last seven games involving Spurs hitting double figures. Going for over 11.5 corners here pays 6/5 with Betano.

This UEFA Europa League match between Galatasaray and Tottenham Hotspur will be played on Nov 7, 2024 and kick off at 17:45. Check below for our tipsters best Galatasaray vs Tottenham Hotspur prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.

The EFL Cup is pretty low down the list of priorities for Manchester City this season and Tottenham fans will be hoping Pep Guardiola plays a few kids when he takes the Premier League champions to London for this last-16 tie.

Ange Postecoglou made a rod for his own back when claiming he always wins a trophy in his second season at a club and this tournament looks like Spurs' best chance of ending their long wait for silverware.

The Aussie certainly needs a win to get the fans back onside after Sunday's 1-0 Premier League loss at Crystal Palace, a game that brought up a corners bet for Slips Tips.

It was a much better weekend for Manchester City as they beat Southampton 1-0 on Saturday to go top of the league then saw title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal both drop points a day later in their 2-2 draw at Emirates.

But Guardiola's squad is being stretched at the moment with a few players out injured and the City boss has admitted he might be forced to play some academy players in this cup tie if some of his main men need a rest.

How the bookies view it: Tottenham tempting at 13/5

Despite Guardiola hinting that he might play a weakened team, Manchester City remain Betano's favourites for this one at 21/20. Tottenham Hotspur look a little overpriced at 9/5 while the draw pays 13/5.

Recent head to head: Jinx in the City armour

Spurs have been a tough nut to crack for Guardiola's all-conquering side, with City winning just five of the last 12 meetings. But two of those victories came last season after the sides had battled out a 3-3 thriller in the first of three meetings in league and cup.

Players to watch: Haaland price longer than usual

Manchester City have been relying heavily on Erling Haaland for goals this season and he brought up a first scorer bet for our man Andy against Saints. The Norwegian rarely gets rested by Guardiola and it's probably because he doesn't do much running. Haaland is a tempting 20/21 with Bet365 for a goal here and is 7/2 to break the deadlock.

I'd imagine Postecoglou will field a strong side for this one and he will be looking for Dominic Solanke to get back among the goals. The striker has gone five games without scoring and is 2/1 to get back on track.

Probable line-ups

Spurs skipper Son Heung-min was a big miss at the weekend and Postecoglou will be hoping he can recover in time to feature here. City look set to be without Jack Wilshere, Jeremy Doku and Kyle Walker again while Kevin De Bruyne still isn't ready to return.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario, Udogie, Romero, Porro, Van de Ven, Bentancur, Maddison, Sar, Solanke, Johnson, Kulusevski.

Manchester City: Ortega, Stones, Ake, Akanji, Lewis, Gundogan, O'Reilly, Foden, Nunes, McAtee, Haaland.

Anything else catch the eye?

If Guardiola does rest a few players, Spurs will have a good chance of going through and backing them to qualify for the quarter-finals looks good value at 11/10 with Bet365.

This should be a decent watch as Postecoglou will have a go at City and Guardiola's team have the pace and class to punish Spurs on the counter attack. Over 3.5 goals looks good at 11/10 with Betano and adding on BTTS boosts the odds to 6/5.

Both these teams have been racking up heaps of corners so it could pay to back over 11.5 flag kicks at 49/50 with Unibet. The same firm also offer 23/20 on over 5.5 Tottenham corners and that bet has landed in their last five matches.

Julen Lopetegui went into the international break off the back of a much-needed win and will be looking to follow it up with another victory when his West Ham side take on Tottenham in a London derby.

Pressure was starting to grow on the new Hammers boss after some dismal defeats but his players found their shooting boots as they breezed to a 4-1 win at home to Ipswich Town.

That has seen the Spaniard drop down the list for next Premier League manager to be sacked but he needs his expensively assembled team to start finding some Premier League consistency.

It won't be easy on the road at Spurs though, even though Ange Postecoglou's men went into the break on a downer after blowing a 2-0 lead on the road at Brighton.

I thought we'd see plenty of goals in that game and all three bets came up for me as the Seagulls floored Tottenham with three quickfire goals in the second half.

Spurs looked to have been turning a corner before that but some heat is now back on their boss as Postecoglou tries to prove he's got the substance to go with his style.

How the bookies view it: Tottenham homing in on the points

Despite that slip on the road at Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur are Betano's 9/20 hot favourites for this derby with home advantage. West Ham United look a little overpriced at 19/4 while the draw pays 15/4.

Recent head to head: Spurs just have the edge

This London derby has been keenly contested in recent years, with the last 14 meetings producing six Tottenham victories, four West Ham wins and four draws. It was the Hammers who held the upper hand last term, winning 2-1 away from home then drawing 1-1 at home.

Players to watch: Solanke out to build momentum

Dominic Solanke has made a decent start since his big-money move from Bournemouth and the Spurs striker earned an England call-up. He didn't feature in any of the Nations League games but is a tempting 5/4 with Bet365 for a goal here.

Tottenham are vulnerable to quick counter attacks so Mohamed Kudus could get some joy for West Ham. The winger is 11/4 with Betano for anytime scorer and a tempting 7/4 with Bet365 to either score or assist.

Probable line-ups

Spurs look set to be without Son Heung-min, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and Lucas Bergvall. West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug has had more time to build up his fitness but this game could come too soon for him.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario, Udogie, Romero, Porro, Van de Ven, Maddison, Johnson, Bentancur, Werner, Solanke, Kulusevski.

West Ham United: Areola, Todibo, Kilman, Wan-Bissaka, Emerson, Paqueta, Kudus, Bowen, Rodriguez, Soucek, Antonio.

Anything else catch the eye?

Going for goals usually pays off with Tottenham and this should be another cracker with both teams boasting plenty of firepower. Over 3.5 goals pays evens with Bet365 while backing over 1.5 first-half strikes is the same price.

Going for corners is another good option, with all but one of Tottenham's games hitting double figures this term. You have to go to over 12.5 flag kicks to get into odds-against territory at 6/5 with Unibet.

Spurs always give their opponents plenty of sights at goal so I like the 6/5 at Bet365 for keeper Guglielmo Vicario to make over 2.5 saves.

Tottenham Hotspur have reeled off five successive wins after losing in the North London derby but their revival faces a major test on the road at Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.

Fans were starting to have doubts about Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham revolution after that home loss to Arsenal but the Aussie has stuck to his guns and been rewarded with a resurgence in form.

Last weekend's 3-0 win at Old Trafford, which saw Slips Tips go for a couple of stats bets, left them just three points adrift of the top four so another win in Brighton would leave them in good shape.

It won't be easy against the Seagulls though as they sit just a point behind Tottenham after six games. New boss Fabian Hurzeler got off to a flying start with a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions but it came to an end at Chelsea last weekend.

Brighton's defence couldn't cope with four-goal Cole Palmer, who brought up a bet for Slips Tips, and now face another tough test against Tottenham's slick attack.

How the bookies view it: Brighton overpriced at 9/5

With Tottenham in such fine form, Betano make them 23/20 favourites. Brighton look a bit overpriced at 9/5 and that could be worth a punt with Spurs coming off the back of a Thursday night European clash in Hungary. The draw pays 3/1.

Recent head to head: Tottenham on top

Tottenham Hotspur have held the upper hand of late in this fixture, winning seven of the last 11 meetings. Brighton won the other four clashes, including a 4-2 victory at the Amex last season.

Players to watch: Mitoma ready to roam free

With Tottenham's full-backs regularly pushing forward it often leaves space for wingers to exploit. Brighton have a flying machine in Kaoru Mitoma and he could get some joy here. The Japanese star is 2/1 with Betano for anytime scorer while Bet365 price him at evens to either score or assist.

Dominic Solanke was Tottenham's big summer buy and he's starting to pay them back with some goals. After earning an England recall, he's 13/8 at Bet365 to get on the scoresheet again.

Probable line-ups

Postecoglou made lots of changes for the midweek clash in Hungary but should revert to his strongest side here. Hueng-Min Son and Destiny Udogie are doubts with thigh injuries.

Brighton are sweating on the fitness of Joao Pedro, Joel Veltman, Simon Adingra and Brajan Gruda. Long-term crocks Matt O'Riley and Jean Paul van Hecke remain out along with James Milner and Solly March.

Brighton and Hove Albion: Verbruggen. Webster, Dunk, Estupinan, Baleba, Mitoma, Kadioglu, Ayari, Hinshelwood, Rutter, Welbeck.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario. Davies, Romero, Porro, Van de Ven, Maddison, Kulusevski, Bentancur, Werner, Solanke, Johnson.

Anything else catch the eye?

We were treated to six goals when Tottenham came calling last term and this clash promises thrills at both ends again. The bookies clearly agree as combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals pays a tiny 41/80 at Betano. Backing over 3.5 strikes on its own takes you to 10/11 with Bet365, who price over 1.5 first-half goals at evens.

Brighton new boy Georginio Rutter is evens with Bet365 just to have a shot on target and that looks good value if the former Leeds star is handed another start.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur go toe-to-toe at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils were unable to build on their 3-0 success at Southampton a fortnight ago when playing out a drab 0-0 stalemate with Crystal Palace last Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s team have since been held to a 1-1 draw by FC Twente in the Europa League at Old Trafford, piling more more pressure on the United boss in the process.

Therefore, the Manchester giants will be looking to use Sunday’s tussle with Tottenham as a jolt to kick-start their season.

As for Spurs, they steadied the ship with a morale-boosting 3-1 win over Brentford last weekend, on an afternoon where my Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Bet Builder landed.

Ange Postecoglou’s side picked up another victory in midweek after they kicked off their Europa League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Qarabag.

How the bookies view it: Red Devils to reign supreme

Despite winning just one of their last four Premier League matches, Manchester United are 5/4 favourites on Betano to claim top honours at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Tottenham are 17/10 (Betano) outsiders to triumph on their top-flight travels for the first time this term, while an all square affair is an unfancied 14/5 (Betano).

New customer offer: Get 40/1 on either side to win

If you fancy either Man United or Tottenham to take three points, and you don't yet have an account with Betano, here's an offer to whet your appetite. Get odds of 40/1 on either side to win, with the enhanced odds paid in free bets.

Claim here >>

Terms: 18+ New customers only. Opt in, bet £1 on Tottenham Hotspur OR Manchester United– Match Betting – 90mins by 16:30 on 29.09.2024. No cash-out. Enhanced odds paid in Free Bets, which expire in 7 days. Click for T&Cs. GambleAware.org. Please gamble responsibly

Head to head: Another shootout in store?

Two of the last three meetings between the sides have ended in a high-scoring 2-2 draw. The same scoreline on Sunday can be backed at a best price of 11/1 on Bet 365.

Players to watch: Solanke hitting his stride?

Dominic Solanke has scored in each of his last two appearances for Tottenham following his club-record move from Bournemouth over the summer. The Spurs striker is 11/5 on UniBet to extend his scoring streak on Sunday.

Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo is even-money (1/1) on Bet 365 to attempt just one shot during this game and that holds plenty of appeal given that the teenage sensation has tried his luck in each of his last two top-flight outings.

Predicted line-ups

Man United’s Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund both returned from injury against Twente in midweek but neither player is expected to get the nod from the off on Sunday.

Tottenham will make the trip north without injured duo Richarlison and Wilson Odebert.

Man United: Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Ugarte, Mainoo; Diallo, Fernandes, Rashford; Zirkzee

Tottenham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son

Anything else catch the eye?

There are no shortage of contenders and cases to be made in the player foul markets at Old Trafford on Sunday but I’m going to opt for Noussair Mazraoui and Rodrigo Bentancur each to commit a foul at 10/11 on Bet 365.

New Red Devils right-back Mazraoui gave away no fewer than four free-kicks against Crystal Palace last weekend, and the Moroccan had also fallen foul of the referee in his three Premier League appearances prior to that.

Meanwhile, tough-tackling Tottenham midfielder Bentancur has sinned at least once in all four of his top-flight outings this term, not to mention he committed a foul against Qarabag on Thursday night despite featuring for just 19 minutes as a substitute.

This English Premier League match between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will be played on Sep 29, 2024 and kick off at 16:30. Coventry vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction and Betting Tips

Description

Coventry host Tottenham Hotspur in the last fixture of this round of the Carabao Cup. What an opportunity for the Spurs to regain some of that lost confidence.

It feels like the world came crashing down around Ange Postecoglou since his statement that he always wins trophies in his second season. Tottenham went on to lose the next two games, to Newcastle and Arsenal.

Nonetheless, losing to teams of this calibre is not a surprise and Tottenham were more unlucky than bad in those games. They played better football than both opponents and controlled the pace.

Unfortunately, even after 20 goal attempts against Newcastle and 15 against the Gunners, they found the net only once. Ange's men have to become more effective in the final third as creating chances is far from enough to win games.

As for Coventry, they sit in the middle of the Championship table with a single win in five rounds. Scoring goals seems to be their main problem as well but we have to note that they beat Bristol and Oxford United in the last two rounds.

Moreover, if we roll back a few months, Coventry reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and even pushed Manchester United to their limit, only losing after penalties. This is not a team that should be underestimated.

How the bookies view it: Spurs with an overwhelming advantage

It comes as no surprise that Tottenham sit as the favourite betting option among all bookmakers. Betfred gave them 2/5 to win, while Coventry's chances have been estimated at 6/1. The draw currently sits at 7/2.

Recent head to head: Tottenham can make it five in a row

The last match between these two sides was in 2013, so there is no real recent head-to-head. But Tottenham won the last clash 3-0 and it was in the FA Cup. Before that, the teams last played in 2003 and Tottenham was dominating the rivalry almost interchangeably.

Players to watch: First goal for Solanke?

Tottenham's transfer season left much to be desired and the lack of depth means that Ange could play with a solid number of regular starters. While we expect Son to rest, you can turn your attention at Dominic Solanke, as the striker should appear early and look for his first goal with his new team.

Probable line-ups

Coventry: Wilson, Van Weijk, Thomas, Binks, Bidwell, Eccles, Allen, Rudoni, Mason-Clark, Wright, Simms

Tottenham: Foster, Porro, Romero, Davies, Dragusin, Kulusevski, Gray, Sarr, Odobert, Werner, Solanke

Anything else catch the eye?

Losing to Coventry would potentially raise questions about Ange's future as Tottenham's manager. We feel like even with Coventry's recent experience in cup competitions, Spurs will find their way to a comfortable win.

Tottenham genuinely look like a team that is a few clinical finishes away from being a contender. The creativity in this squad is up there with the best and it is up to their front three to start utilizing the dozen chances per match.

One could argue that Coventry will have chances to score but we believe it is not worth the risk. Even an Over is questionable. A scoreline around 0-2 sounds way more reasonable.

Tottenham Hotspur and Everton both had disappointing starts to the Premier League season so they will be desperate to bounce back with a win with they face off in London on matchday two.

The Toffees have been battling against the drop for the last few seasons and their dismal 3-0 loss at home Brighton last weekend suggested another nervous struggle is on the cards.

The stakes are so high for Everton this season with a move to their new stadium imminent but Sean Dyche hasn't been given a lot of money to spend this summer and his squad looks short on quality.

In contrast, Tottenham have splashed out big money on Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert and Archie Gray this summer in a bid to give Aneg Postecoglou a squad capable of breaking into the top four.

Spurs looked slick when they led 1-0 at half-time against Leicester on Monday night but a failure to take their chances came back to haunt them as the Foxes pinched a 1-1 draw.

That has some fans fearing Postecoglou remains all style and no substance so the Aussie needs a win here to keep them sweet.

How the bookies view it: Spurs red-hot favourites at home

After Everton's poor show last weekend it's no surprise to see them as Betfred's 6/1 outsiders. Tottenham Hotspur are just 2/5 and even the draw is pretty big at 18/5.

Recent head to head: Game's a bogey for Toffees

Spurs have been a bogey team for Everton in recent seasons and the Toffees haven't claimed a victory in this fixture in the last seven meetings. Tottenham have won the last three against Everton at home, including a 2-1 triumph last term.

Players to watch: Solanke out to get off the mark

Summer signing Solanke drew a blank at Leicester on Monday but he had a decent game and managed a couple of efforts on target. This Spurs side creates so many chances that he's bound to put one away soon and Betfred price him at 13/10 for anytime scorer.

Keeping Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit will be key to Everton's survival hopes and he should lead the line again here. The striker is 11/4 to open his account for the new campaign.

Probable teams

Rordrigo Bentacur will miss out for Tottenham after his worrying head injury at Leicester. New boy Gray could replace him, while Yves Bissouma is another option after returning from his club suspension. Ashley Young sits this one out for Everton due his red card against Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario, Udogie, Romero, Porro, van de Ven, Maddison, Sarr, Gray, Son, Solanke, Johnson.

Everton: Pickford, Keane, Tarkowski, Holgate, Mykolenko, McNeil, Harrison, Doucoure, Gueye, Iroegbunam, Calvert-Lewin.

Anything else catch the eye?

Postecoglou won't change his style of play so it bodes well for an open game, with Everton's direct style capable of causing Spurs problems on the break.

Combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals pays 10/11 in a bet builder at Betfred while over 3.5 match goals pays 6/5.

While watching Tottenham's clash with Leicester I was wishing I had bet on corners as Spurs racked up seven inside 20 minutes. They ended up with 13 so that's a market worth exploring here, with over 7.5 Tottenham corners paying 5/6. Backing Tottenham at -4 in that handicap also appeals at 6/5 while over 12 match corners also pays 6/5.

Abdoulaye Doucoure was a big threat for Everton last term so he appeals at 13/8 for an effort on target against a defensive that gives you plenty of chances.

The final fixture of the opening round of Premier League action sees Leicester City lock horns with Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Seven years after one of the most improbable title triumphs of all time, the Foxes fell through the top-flight trapdoor in season 2022-23.

However, under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, Leicester secured promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, as the finished top of last season's English Championship.

The aforementioned Maresca has since been lured to Chelsea, with the Foxes drafting in the experienced Steve Cooper to lead their survival bid.

Tottenham, meanwhile, will be looking to improve on last year’s fifth placed finish in what was manager Ange Postecoglou’s maiden campaign in English football.

Spurs made a flying start to last season under their Aussie manager and they will be hoping to make a similarly fast start this time around.

How the bookies view it: Spurs to go marching to win

Leicester City are big outsiders at 17/4 (Bet 365) to mark their return to the Premier League with a victory, while a point apiece at the King Power is also considered unlikely at 10/3 (William Hill).

Tottenham are odds-on 3/5 favourites on Bet 365 to bank their first three Premier League points of the season at the first attempt on Monday night.

Head to head: Tottenham tend to triumph

Tottenham Hotspur have come out on top in nine of their last 13 Premier League meetings with Leicester City.

However, it’s worth noting that Spurs were crushed 4-1 when they last visited the King Power back in February 2023, with a certain James Madison among the Foxes goalscorers.

Players to watch: Solanke to strike?

After scoring 19 goals for Bournemouth in the Premier League last season, Dominic Solanke will be desperate to make an instant impact when making his Tottenham debut on Monday night. The new Spurs striker is an appealing 6/4 (Bet 365) to fire against the Foxes.

Former Spurs man Harry Winks is likely to be in the thick of the midfield battle and he could be worth considering for a card at 3/1 (Bet 365).

Predicted line-ups

Having joined the club on a free transfer from Fulham over the summer, Bobby Decordova-Reid is expected to be handed his competitive debut for Leicester on Monday night.

Both Destiny Udogie and Richarlison look set to start the season on the treatment table for Tottenham, however big money signing Dominic Solanke could get the nod at the King Power.

Leicester: Hermansen; Justin, Vestergaard, Faes, Kristiansen; Winks, Ndidi; De Cordova-Reid, Fatawu, Mavididi; Daka.

Tottenham: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Davies; Sarr, Gray, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.

Anything else catch the eye?

Tottenham are too skinny to side with at 8/13 but backing the visitors to emerge victorious in a game that features two or more goals represents value at 4/5 (Bet 365).

A whopping 19 of Spurs’ 20 top-flight victories last season produced two or more match goals, including each of their last 14 league successes.

What's more, Ange Postecoglou’s side posted just seven clean sheets across their 38 premier League games last season, so multiple strikes may be needed if they are to claim top honours at the King Power on Monday night.
