The latest Premier League transfer headlines and our take on the situation.

The start of the 2024/25 Premier League season is fast approaching and and before we know it, Deadline Day will also be upon us. So far, it’s been an interesting transfer window but we can expect rumours to build up as we enter the final weeks of business, with clubs scrambling to get last-minute deals over the line. Let’s take a look at some of the latest rumour headlines.

Spurs urged to consider £85m Chelsea target

Tottenham Hotspur made headlines when they beat the competition to Archie Gray’s signature, however, they are still without a new clinical No.9 to replace Harry Kane. Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has backed Spurs to enter the race for Victor Osimhen, as rivals Chelsea continue to keep tabs on him.

“The number nine, for me, is the difference in the top four race. With the present squad, I think they’re still going to be lucky to qualify for Europe. There are a lot of clubs making big moves,” he told Football Insider.

“They’re going to have to make that big signing. Archie Gray is a great talent, but that’s not the answer. There needs to be someone — like an Osimhen — to come in. I wouldn’t be surprised if Spurs are looking at and keeping themselves informed on Osimhen’s situation at Napoli. He’s one they need to keep their eyes on.”

The 3AM Verdict: Spurs do indeed need to bring in someone who can bang in goals for fun and Osimhen could be a strong option, teamed up with the likes of Heung-min Son in attack. Napoli have reportedly slashed their asking price for the striker and are looking to bank £85 million through a sale, rather than the £100 million release clause currently in place. It’s still a high amount to pay but at 25 years of age and with 48 goals scored in the last two seasons, Osimhen would be an investment for the future and his performances will surely eventually pay for themselves.

Liverpool offer for midfielder ‘should arrive in next few days’

Liverpool have been considering options to add to their engine room as their midfield restructure is still not yet complete. Teun Koopmeiners has been linked with the Reds for a while now and new information from Italy suggests that they could be making steps towards trying to bring him to Anfield.

According to Claudio Raimondi of Sportmediaset (relayed via Tuttojuve), Liverpool have ‘knocked on the door’ to sign Koopmeiners. The Atalanta midfielder is someone Arne Slot knows well from their time at AZ Alkmaar together and it is believed that an initial offer from the Reds ‘should arrive in the next few days’. The only thing hanging over the situation is that Koopmeiners’ desire is to represent Juventus, which could decide whether he entertains interest from the Premier League or not.

The 3AM Verdict: Signing Koopmeiners would be a huge statement from Liverpool, as he has been on their radar for some time now. The Netherlands international contributed 15 goals and seven assists last season, so it’s no surprise why the Reds are so interested. However, Liverpool signed three creative-minded midfielders last summer in Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, while Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones are also in the mix. Unless Slot is willing to offload some players from the engine room, their money may be better spent on a senior defensive midfielder to rival Wataru Endō, rather than another playmaker to challenge for a place in the starting XI.

Tottenham's £65m lethal striker transfer target who could finally fill Harry Kane void

Tottenham could be setting up a deal that would see them finally replace Harry Kane.

Tottenham are in search of a striker to finally fill the void created by the £100 million departure of Harry Kane last summer. The Lilywhites are leaving no stone unturned as they look to fight for the league title next season or at least finish in a Champions League spot.

Kane is Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer and everything revolved around him at the club. Last season, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou relied heavily on now-club captain Son Heung-min and Richarlison, the latter of whom enjoyed his best return last time out with 11 goals.

But this season, there is clearly a need for an upgrade and more options in attack as Spurs finally go for it, and Dominic Solanke, who has proved during his time with Bournemouth that he is one of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League, is a strong candidate. Since joining the Cherries in 2019, the 26-year-old has made 216 competitive appearances for the club, scoring 77 goals and providing 31 assists. He narrowly missed out on England’s Euro 2024 squad, and there is a feeling that if he were playing for a team higher up the table with those numbers, he would surely have been in the conversation for Gareth Southgate’s team.

Joining Spurs would be an absolutely perfect deal for the striker, and he will be able to play in Europe. The system and style of Spurs mean he could be even more ruthless, as they create more chances and keep the ball better than Bournemouth do. Standing at 6'2" (188 cm), Solanke possesses a significant physical presence that can be crucial in the Premier League. Like Kane, he is strong in the air and can hold up the ball effectively, bringing teammates into play.

This attribute will be particularly important for Tottenham, as they will need a striker who can provide a focal point in attack and compete in aerial duels. Solanke's physicality and ability to win headers make him a natural successor to Kane in this regard. Solanke's career trajectory has been marked by resilience and determination. After struggling to break into the first team at Chelsea and Liverpool, he moved to Bournemouth, where he worked tirelessly to establish himself as a key player. When he moved to Bournemouth, many people saw it as a step-down, but he knew he had to work hard to get ahead.

This journey has instilled in him a strong work ethic and a hunger to succeed at the highest level. Tottenham would benefit from having a player with such determination and a point to prove, as Solanke would be highly motivated to seize the opportunity to replace Kane and lead the line for a top Premier League club.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is slowly turning this team into his own image, and he’s hinted in the past that he is looking to rebuild the foundations and make Spurs a team that is capable of competing for titles and rubbing shoulders with the big boys. To do that, he’ll need a striker who is a number 9 but versatile enough to play across the front line while also having incredible Premier League experience - Solanke fits the bill perfectly.

Fulham have been working hard to seal a crucial midfielder signing - but Tottenham Hotspur could be about to spoil the party

Fulham have been leading the race to sign Manchester United’s Scott McTominay, but now could face fierce competition from Spurs, who are in the market for a midfielder after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg left the club.

The Lilywhites are looking for someone with the legs to go on and score goals from midfield, and McTominay has proven he has that ability and experience, having been at United his entire career. Sunday Times journalist Duncan Castles has reported that Spurs are interested in a deal to sign the Red Devils midfielder, who scored seven Premier League goals for the Red Devils last season.

The BBC are also reporting that United have received a second bid from Fulham, understood to be £20m for the Lancaster-born Scotland international, with the Cottagers pushing to sign him to replace Joao Palhinha, who finally got his big move to Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

Fulham have done their homework well and know that not many players can replace Palhinha like McTominay. Standing at 6’4” (193 cm), McTominay brings a significant physical presence to the midfield. His height and strength make him effective in aerial duels and physical battles, which can be particularly beneficial in both defensive situations and set-piece scenarios.

The 27-year-old has similar qualities as Palhinha, including physicality and endurance, making this a potentially perfect fit. From the player’s standpoint, he’s at the age where he needs to feel important and be central to a project. At Fulham, he will be a shoo-in as the main midfielder that everyone revolves around.

Tottenham have the lure of Europa League football which, while a step down from the Champions League, is a massive deal for players like McTominay. Financially, Spurs would offer a bigger wage package, and he’d get to play alongside bigger names. However, Spurs are also looking at Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, so they are steadily stockpiling star players, and the competition for starting minutes would mean he might not be the main man. Uounger players like Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma, who have been with manager Ange Postecoglou for a while now, may well be preferred regular starters.

One McTominay would bring to Fulham if they finalise the deal is leadership. Even at his relatively young age, McTominay has shown leadership qualities at Manchester United and with the Scotland national team. His experience at a top club and international level can provide invaluable experience and guidance to Fulham’s squad, both on and off the pitch.

It’s clear to see why Spurs are interested and what he can do in a well-oiled system like that crafted by Ange Postecoglou, but he’s at the stage where he needs to be the leading star. Marco Silva has grown a reputation for getting key players to perform in the Premier League. Just look at players like Mitrovic and Palhinha, who both ended up getting big money moves after playing under the Portuguese manager. If both clubs make a move for McTominay, a switch to west London just might be a better idea.

Tottenham will be hoping to kick on under Ange Postecoglou in 2024/25

This coming season could prove to be a vital one for Tottenham Hotspur. After making such an impressive start under Ange Postecoglou last term, Spurs fell away somewhat, and ultimately had to settle for a fifth-placed finish and Europa League qualification.

Over the course of the coming months, Postecoglou will be hoping for a lot more from his side, and while the prospect of a title challenge may feel a touch fanciful, certainly the expectation will be that Spurs can force their way back into the top four.

To do that, however, they may need to make a couple of signings. So, with that in mind, here is how Tottenham could line up in 2024/25, if they manage to land all of their reported transfer targets...

Guglielmo Vicario

A genuinely eye-catching debut campaign in England last season put to rest any lingering concerns over whether or not Hugo Lloris would be adequately replaced.

Pedro Porro

Energetic and astute in both his attacking and defensive duties, the full-back has established himself as an important member of this Spurs back line.

Cristian Romero

Capable of being absolutely brilliant and, when the red mist descends, a complete liability. By and large the Argentinian is a major asset to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Hide Ad

Micky van de Ven

The main issue with Van de Ven is keeping him fit. Over the course of an injury hit campaign last term, he still showed enough to suggest that his potential is mammoth. Physically imposing and absolutely rapid, the Dutchman has been some signing for Tottenham thus far.

Destiny Udogie

Another who is only likely to grow and grow, the Italian youngster looked right at home in the Premier League last season, but, like many in an injury-ravaged squad, had to deal with a fair few enforced absences. The best is still very much yet to come for Udogie.

Yves Bissouma

On his day, a really classy operator and a much needed measure of ballast in the centre of the park. Bissouma has evolved into a vital player for Postecoglou.

Jacob Ramsey

A player who Spurs are really, really keen on, talk continues surrounding the prospect of a swap deal that would see Giovani Lo Celso travel in the opposite direction to Aston Villa. Whether that comes to fruition or not, only time will tell, but Tottenham are not letting their interest wane any time soon.

James Maddison

Dropped off a little in the latter part of last season, but started at a canter, and will be hoping to rediscover his best form when the new campaign kicks off later this month. The creative linchpin of this Spurs side.

Pedro Neto

Another star who Tottenham have been heavily linked with, the Portuguese winger feels destined for a top six move at some point sooner rather than later, and it would be no great surprise to see him leave Wolves over the coming weeks. Certainly one to keep an eye on as the window progresses.

Son Heung-min

The talisman of this Spurs side. Having stepped up to the plate following Harry Kane’s departure last summer, the South Korean looks every inch the leader and clinical finisher that Tottenham desperately need right now - although signing another striker to ease his burden wouldn’t hurt.

Eberechi Eze

And finally, Eze is another transfer target who is proving to be massively in-demand this summer. The Crystal Palace star is a superb attacking talent, capable of carrying the ball great distances and bamboozling defenders at will. Like Neto, he feels like a dead cert for a big money move in the near future, and Tottenham will be eager to win this particular race.

The £45m powerhouse defender who Tottenham could sign this summer - if they act fast

Tottenham should move for one of the Premier League’s most promising defenders if they want to improve.

Tottenham made a magical move last summer when they signed Mickey Van de Ven, who ended up being the club’s Player of the Season. His freshness and sharpness were a breath of fresh air, and he continued to excel even when more experienced heads dropped midway through the campaign.

There is now a chance to build on that and bring in Joe Gomez, who sources say is desperate to leave Liverpool this summer. At 27, Gomez is at the age where he needs consistent playing time, and he would provide incredible competition to both Van de Ven and World Cup winner Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s defence.

Every top team should have at least four top central defenders, and Spurs currently have two, with a promising one in Romanian Radu Dragușin. At some stage last season, they were forced to play Emerson Royal as a central defender, and even though his effort can’t be questioned, having a natural central defender at the peak of his career is non-negotiable if you want to compete and win the Premier League.

Gomez wants to leave Liverpool for a new challenge, and Spurs would be an ideal place for him to get just that. He would also add to the homegrown quota. In January, Spurs lost Eric Dier and have barely replaced him, so there is space for a defender to come in and kill two birds with one stone.

Crucially, Liverpool are also open to letting Gomez leave as they eye other targets to freshen up their squad under their new manager Arne Slot. This is a deal that Spurs can get done in a matter of days if they act fast. For £45 million, signing an England international with the ability to play as both a central defender and a capable fullback is a no-brainer.

Additionally, Gomez brings valuable experience of success, having won multiple trophies at Liverpool. For a club looking to win its first trophy since the Carling Cup in 2008, having someone who understands what it means to win silverware is always a plus.

For Gomez, this move would provide a challenge to prove that he can move away from his first big club and thrive in a competitive environment. When Gomez, formerly of Charlton Athletic, first came through the ranks at Liverpool, the expectation was that he would be the long-term replacement for Virgil Van Dijk, but injuries have often prevented him from getting the consistent time he needs to be an absolute game-changer.

A move like this could be the platform he needs to get back on track. He also has an underrated passing range, and his ability to pick the right pass and organise the backline will solve several issues for Spurs on the field. His mentality would help rebuild the foundations of the club, especially after Ange Postecoglou hinted last season that the mindset within the club is fragile.

Why Tottenham must do everything possible to beat Chelsea to £21m bargain transfer of the summer

Both Chelsea and Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign a top class Serie A star

Tottenham started last season on fire before everything fizzled out after they lost a host of top players to suspensions and injuries. The expectation is that they will kick on and fight for the title this season. They have already conducted some smart business on the exits front this summer, including the wise move to terminate the contract of struggling record-signing Tanguy Ndombele. They also turned down the chance to extend Ryan Sessegnon’s contract after what has been a highly frustrating stint mainly caused by injuries, while Eric Dier, who joined Bayern Munich in January, left the club permanently.

Incomings have been exciting too, with Timo Werner, who won the Champions League at Chelsea, getting another chance to impress after he picked up an injury which denied him the chance to end the campaign strongly. The club has triggered a loan deal for another season and will get the chance to see him properly before deciding whether to make the deal permanent. Young Lucas Bergvall has also joined the club after he was initially signed in January, and they concluded the signing of Yang Min-Hyeok, who has been tipped to become the next Son Heung-min.

But there is one signing that will signal intent and send shivers down the spine of their competitors, including direct rivals Chelsea, and that is Federico Chiesa. 3 Added Minutes have been told his agent has offered the forward to both Chelsea and Tottenham, but it is Spurs who will need his expertise.

Beating Chelsea to Chiesa’s signature would send a powerful message to Tottenham’s rivals and their own supporters. It would demonstrate that Spurs are serious about competing at the highest level and are willing to go toe-to-toe with the Premier League’s financial giants for top talent. This could galvanise the squad and fanbase, fostering a winning mentality and driving the club forward.

For so long, Tottenham have struggled to compete with Chelsea when it comes to their financial standing, but a move like this will be massive. His mentality as a Euro winner and his skill will be the kind of firepower that Ange Postecoglou might need to get this team to the level he desires.

Last season, ahead of the game against Manchester City, Postecoglou said the foundations of the club were fragile after suggesting someone hinted they would be happy to lose to Pep Guardiola’s side so that Arsenal wouldn't win the league. You can imagine what having a player with the mindset and mentality of Chiesa will do for the team and the club at large.

Under Ange Postecoglou’s dynamic tactical system, Chiesa’s versatility would be invaluable. The Italian can play in a number of positions and is clearly a hard worker. His skill set allows the manager to change formations and strategies in-game, as well as to approach games in different ways without having to introduce new players. Both Spurs and Chelsea could benefit from a player like Chiesa, but it is Spurs who need this jolt of energy to get going.

Leeds United's insane £156m transfer window predicted including Spurs, Rangers and Burnley deals

Is this how the summer transfer window could play out for Leeds United?

The summer transfer window has already been a hectic one for Daniel Farke and Leeds United.

Following their defeat against Southampton in last season’s Championship play-off final, the Whites have been forced into some difficult decisions as they look to contend with the financial impact of facing a second successive season in the second tier. Academy graduate Archie Gray has been sold to Tottenham Hotspur in a £35m move that was described as a ‘heartbreaking’ decision by the Elland Road hierarchy.

He is far from alone in leaving the club as the likes of Glen Kamara, Charlie Cresswell, Diego Llorente and Robin Koch have all departed since the end of last season. There have been new additions with Joe Rodon making a permanent switch to Elland Road after spending last season on loan with the Whites and Jayden Bogle making the switch across Yorkshire from Sheffield United.

But what other business could Farke conduct before the transfer window slams shut? We fire up Football Manager 2024 to see how the world’s most popular managerial simulation predicts the next month will play out at Elland Road.

Goalkeepers

The only addition to Farke’s goalkeeping options was the real-life signing of Alex Cairns as he returned to Elland Road from Salford City. The same can be said of the only departure as Kristoffer Klaesson joined Polish side Rakow on a free transfer.

Farke’s goalkeeping options: Meslier, Darlow, Cairns

Defenders

Although there were no additional departures to the ones the actual Farke has overseen over the last six weeks, there were two new additions to the virtual Whites squad. Both came in full-back positions as Cameron Pring was signed in a £6m deal from Championship rivals Bristol City and Turkey international Zeki Celik joined on a season-long loan from Serie A giants Roma.

Farke’s defensive options: Struijk, Wober, Rodon, Cooper, Celik, Pring, Byram, Bogle

Midfielders

There were two eye-catching additions to Farke’s midfield ranks as the Whites boss spent over £20m to boost his options in the middle of the park. Firstly, the Whites boss went back to Serie A to sign Salernitana star Lassana Coulibaly in a £6m move before Burnley midfielder Sander Berge was snapped up in a £16m deal. There was one departure as Ilya Gruev moved north of the border to join Rangers in a £3m switch.

Farke’s midfield options: Ampadu, Rothwell, Aaronson, Coulibaly, Berge

Forwards

Now there were some big changes in the final third but maybe it would be safe to say that they were not the changes some would have expected. Firstly, the good news as Crysenico Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto have remained as part of Farke’s squad and will spearhead the push for a return to the Premier League. However, Joel Piroe and Georgino Rutter have moved on to Real Mallorca and Wolfsburg respectively and have swelled the coffers with £43m in funds. The one new addition at the top end of the pitch was Tottenham Hotspur youngster Will Lankshear, who joins on a season-long loan deal with no option for a permanent switch.

Football Manager 2024 predicts how the remainder of the summer transfer window could play out for Tottenham Hotspur.

It has already been a busy summer for Ange Postecoglou as he prepares for his second season in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Celtic manager has already made two exciting new additions to his squad as he looks to move on from what was a slightly underwhelming season last time out after completing the signings of Leeds United youngster Archie Gray and Swedish wonderkid Lucas Bergvall. There have been a whole host of departures too with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s move to Marseille seeing the Denmark international following the likes of Joe Rodon, Eric Dier, Tanguy Ndombele, Ivan Perisic and Japhet Tanganga through the exit door.

Goalkeepers

There were no changes in Postecoglou’s goalkeeping ranks as Forster and Austin provide backup and support for undoubted number one Vicario. The only movement saw youngster Alfie Whiteman moved to West Bromwich Albion on loan.

Postecoglou’s goalkeeping options: Guglielmo Vicario, Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin

Defenders

There were several departures as Postecoglou made some major changes in the backline. Djed Spence also departed in a £7m move to Italian club Genoa. There were two new arrivals as Bayer Leverkusen’s highly-rated centre-back Edmond Tapsoba joined in a £33m move and Chelsea academy product Trevoh Chalobah made the hop across London in an £18m deal.

Postecoglou did make two new additions to his forward ranks as he completed a double swoop on the Portuguese league. Braga winger Ricardo Horta was first to join in a £25m deal and he was followed by Benfica’s Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo, who cost Spurs an initial £40m, with a possible £7m to follow in add-ons.

Firstly, Emerson Royal and Ben Davies joined Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and West Ham United at a combined income of £17m and Sergio Reguilon returned to Spain to join Real Betis in a £6m deal.

Midfielders

The only midfielder to depart Spurs in the virtual world was Giovani Lo Celso as he completed a season-long loan move to Portuguese giants Benfica and that represented the only business Postecoglou conducted in the middle of the park.

Forwards

Firstly, the departures and there were two. The main one saw Brazil international Richarlison become the latest big name player to move to the Saudi Pro League as he made a £42m move to Al-Ittihad and he was followed through the exit door by Manor Solomon, who joined Marseille in a season-long move.

The latest transfer talk from across the Premier League as Ipswich Town and Leicester City plan moves for Sunderland and Arsenal stars.

Tottenham Hotspur could be handed a financial boost if Ipswich Town follow up their interest in Sunderland winger Jack Clarke.

The Tractor Boys have already made a positive start to their summer recruitment as they prepare for the long-awaited return to the top flight. Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric has been handed an immediate return to the Premier League after making a £7m move to Portman Road and he will be joined by West Ham United defender Ben Johnson, who was snapped up on a free transfer after his Hammers contract came to a close.

Chelsea youngster Omari Hutchinson has made a permanent switch to Ipswich on the back of a successful loan stint and Hull City defender Jacob Greaves and Manchester City forward Liam Delap have both been secured at a combined cost of around £32m. McKenna is now set to make an £18m move for Sunderland star Clarke in a deal that could hand an unexpected financial boost to Tottenham, who negotiated a sell-on clause in the permanent deal that took the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2022.

Speaking about his future after the Black Cats’ recent pre-season friendly at National League club Gateshead, Clarke said: “Obviously that interest has been there but it doesn't affect me. I'm still wearing a red and white shirt at the end of the day. That's what I'm focusing on. As long as I'm in a red and white shirt, that's all I'll be focusing on. I'm coming in every single day, wearing Sunderland colours every day. As long as I'm playing for Sunderland I won't be thinking about anything else. If things are going to happen then they're going to happen when they happen. I'm not focusing on anything else other than the present and in the present I'm playing for Sunderland.”

After helping Sunderland reach the Championship play-offs during the 2022/23 season by scoring 11 goals and providing 14 assists in 50 appearances, Clarke was a high point in a challenging season last time out by racking up 19 goal contributions in 42 games as his side laboured to a lower half finish. That has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs and Serie A side Lazio are also said to be keen on the winger. It is Ipswich that are believed to be ready to make a firm move for his services - although iNews have claimed the Tractor Boys may well have to stump up around £25m to persuade Sunderland to part company with their star man.

Foxes confident of pulling off Arsenal deal

Leicester City are reportedly hoping to land a deal to secure Arsenal academy product Reiss Nelson.

The Gunners winger has already enjoyed loan spells with Bundesliga club Hoffenheim and Dutch giants Feyenoord earlier in his career and is now being lined up for another temporary switch away from the Emirates Stadium after struggling to secure a regular place in Mikel Arteta’s side. The former England Under-21 star made 24 appearances in all competitions last season but just five came as part of the starting eleven.

Metro have now reported Leicester are in negotiations over a season-long loan move for Nelson and the report suggest the Foxes will have an obligation to convert the deal into a permanent switch next summer.
