Tottenham could use the money they get from selling Cristian Romero to sign £75m star this summer

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to have a big summer transfer window.

Spurs’ season has not gone to plan. Their whole campaign depends on the Europa League now after their dismal performances in the Premier League and the two domestic cups.

There is already a lot of speculation around the future of Ange Postecoglou, who could get sacked if he doesn’t win the Europa League this term.

Whether the Australian remains in charge or not, Tottenham will need new signings in the summer, and the sale of Cristian Romero could aid them in their pursuit of a top-class defender.

Tottenham could use Cristian Romero money to sign Marc Guehi

Romero’s time at Tottenham could be coming to an end this summer.

The Argentina international has been on Spurs’ books since 2021, and he has been one of their most important players. He was even named as the vice-captain last year.

However, after an injury-hit season in which Romero has taken aim at Tottenham’s medical staff, there is a chance this could be his final few months in North London.

Atletico Madrid are keen to sign Romero this summer, and with just two years left on his contract, he could be on the move.

If that happens, Tottenham will need to sign a new defender, and GiveMeSport have claimed that Spurs could use the money they get from Romero to ‘finance’ a deal for Marc Guehi.

Tottenham launched an ambitious £70 million bid to sign Guehi in the winter window, but Crystal Palace rejected that immediately.

The Eagles had set a £75 million price-tag in last summer’s transfer window (Mail), and Spurs’ offer – even though it was close to that figure – did not convince Palace.

In the summer, however, things could change as Guehi will have just one year left on his deal.

How much money could Tottenham make from selling Cristian Romero?

Romero was one of Tottenham’s most valuable players before the start of this season.

Spurs had zero interest in letting the Argentine go back then. Daniel Levy demanded over £60 million to sell Romero at the time.

But, that stance has softened now, and reports have claimed that Tottenham will listen to offers around £45 million to sell Romero this summer.

Atletico Madrid, however, are hoping to sign Romero for £33 million, which falls well short of what Spurs would like for their star centre-half.

As things stand, £45 million is Tottenham’s asking price. It remains to be seen if Atleti will match that figure once the window opens.

Aston Villa now leading Tottenham in race to sign one of Chelsea’s ‘best players’ this summer

Description

Both Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have been busy in the last few transfer windows, although the results have been different so far.

The Villans finished fourth in the Premier League table last season to qualify for the Champions League, and now they’re in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Aston Villa are also in the FA Cup quarter-finals and remain in the picture to qualify for the Champions League this time round – testament to a superbly-assembled squad.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have brought in a multitude of players under Ange Postecoglou, but results have been mixed, although their injury crisis certainly hasn’t helped.

Now, a report has emerged claiming the Villans are leading Tottenham in the race to sign a Chelsea man Enzo Maresca deemed one of his “best players” earlier this season.

Aston Villa lead Tottenham in Noni Madueke race

The player in question is Noni Madueke, who faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently claimed that Villa appreciate Madueke, though Tottenham and Newcastle are also keen.

Now, GiveMeSport has reported that Villa are leading the race to sign Madueke in the summer and they have renewed optimism in the race for his signature.

This is because there is increasing confidence that Chelsea are prepared to cash in if a strong bid that allows them to make some profit is tabled.

Villa are expected to be alongside Newcastle as the frontrunners to land Madueke, who is apparently open to moving if his Chelsea game time remains limited.

What Enzo Maresca has said about Noni Madueke

Maresca has questioned Madueke more than once in public this season.

In mid-January, the Chelsea boss said he believed Noni Madueke is “one of Chelsea’s best players” but challenged the winger to prove it on a regular basis.

“I consider Noni one of our best players to be honest,” Maresca said, as per the Evening Standard.

“But because of that we want our best players to behave in the right way always. Not to switch off, not [to have] some days where they can drop. No.

“[We know] that during a season it’s normal that for some players they are not 100 per cent. But it’s not just about Noni, it’s about all the players.”

And just a few weeks later, Maresca said, as per the same outlet: “Yes, he scored a goal but after he scored the goal he stopped playing.

“This has to be something that we need to improve immediately, absolutely.

“Never happy if you score one, two, you go for more and I think after he scored the goal he stopped a little bit playing and that is something we need to improve.”

It remains to be seen whether Maresca chooses to keep Madueke or decides to make him available for sale. In that case, Villa and Tottenham should be able to pounce.

Alan Brazil shares what he’s been told about Ange Postecoglou behind the scenes at Tottenham - TBR Football
Description

Ange Postecoglou has endured a terrible season at Tottenham, and there are a number of reasons behind Spurs’ lacklustre campaign.

Tottenham haven’t been consistent enough this season, that’s for sure, while injuries have also been a factor.

Meanwhile, there is also a lack of leadership at Tottenham. Heung-Min Son has been questioned as a captain, while speaking on TalkSPORT, Alan Brazil has shared some insight into Ange Postecoglou’s leadership.

The pundit says that he’s heard that Postecoglou isn’t really a manager who gets into his players enough, claiming that he’ll simply tell his players what he wants rather than reiterating that fact in a more vocal or pressing manner.

What Alan Brazil has heard about Ange Postecoglou

Brazil shared what he’s heard about Postecoglou and his style of management.

According to the pundit, Postecoglou isn’t the most vocal or inspiring of leaders, instead opting to give players instructions in a much more simple fashion.

“I think those types of characters are starting to disappear (vocal leaders),” Harry Redknapp said.

“You know, I hear Ange is a bit like that. He doesn’t really get into the players. He tells them what he wants and that’s it, He’s not one of those who is in your face,” Brazil said.

What Ange Postecoglou is like at Tottenham

Postecoglou is a bit of an enigma of a personality – you can’t quite put your finger on what he’s going to be like on any given day.

Postecoglou can be frosty at times, but, other times, he’s happy to laugh and joke during his press conferences.

Meanwhile, some suggest that Postecoglou rarely speaks to his players, while others have reported that Postecoglou is always open to speaking to the staff at Spurs.

Brazil has heard that Postecoglou isn’t the most vocal of managers, but Bryan Gil told a different story, claiming that Postecoglou is a great motivator.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a coach who’s such a good speaker or motivator before matches,” said the Spaniard. “He fills us all with so much confidence before we take to the pitch.

“He’s great tactically too. As I’ve said, I’ve never seen any other team play like us.”

It would appear that Postecoglou comes across differently to almost everyone he meets in different situations, hence why there are so many conflicting stories about his personality at Tottenham.

Daniel Levy has made it his ‘personal mission’ to sign ‘crazy’ Premier League player for Tottenham

Description

Daniel Levy has some big plans at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The North Londoners have had a really poor season so far. They are 14th in the Premier League table, out of both domestic cups, and their whole campaign now rests on the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou is under enormous pressure at Spurs, and there is every chance he will be shown the door if the final months of the season don’t go well.

Irrespective of what happens in the business end of the season, Levy knows that Tottenham need reinforcements in the summer, and he is personally pushing to sign one player.

Daniel Levy has made it his ‘personal mission’ to sign Tyler Dibling for Tottenham

Tyler Dibling has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham for several months now.

The talented teenager has impressed multiple clubs with his performances for Southampton since the start of this campaign. He is destined for a move to a bigger club.

TBR Football exclusively revealed this month that Tottenham believe they are the favourites to sign Dibling despite interest from other sides.

To protect their asset, Southampton have slapped a £100 million price tag on the 19-year-old, who has been hailed as a ‘crazy’ talent by Saints defender Yukinari Sugawara (Daily Echo).

GiveMeSport now claim that ‘Levy has made it his personal mission’ to sign Dibling and has been working on the deal for several weeks now.

The report says that Spurs could sign the teenager for ‘slightly more than £50 million’, even though that’s nowhere near Southampton’s asking price.

It has further been claimed that: “Levy has been looking to use the fact that the winger has only two years remaining on his £5,000-per-week contract to Spurs’ advantage, while it has been acknowledged that Saints’ demands are likely to drop if they are unable to pull off a great escape and maintain their top flight status.”

Tyler Dibling’s stats in 2024/25 compared to Tottenham’s attackers

Tottenham have several attackers in the squad, but not many of them have delivered this season.

Son Heung-min looks nothing like his usual self, while Brennan Johnson has come under enormous criticism – even though his numbers look good.

Timo Werner has been really poor and will be sent back after his loan, while Richarlison could be on the move after struggling to stay fit.

So, a new attacker is a necessity for Spurs, but is Dibling the one?

As the table shows above, Dibling is not a world-beater by any means, but the fact that he is still only 19 and has huge potential makes him a great option.

However, Spurs should be careful about splashing huge cash on the youngster this summer as there’s no guarantee he will be a success in the Premier League.

Tottenham and Manchester United are two teams who need to have big summer transfer windows.

Indeed, despite being two of the traditional big six, Spurs and United look likely to finish in the bottom-half in the Premier League this season.

Something has to change at both of these clubs, and with the summer transfer window coming up, there’s a chance for both teams to revamp.

Angel Gomes has been linked to Tottenham recently, and according to Ben Jacobs, speaking on Market Madness, Gomes could well be Spurs-bound this summer.

The journalist says that he expects Gomes to come to the Premier League this summer, claiming that Tottenham and Manchester United are the two teams most likely to win this race.

Angel Gomes likely to join Tottenham or Manchester United

Jacobs shared an update on Gomes’ future.

Gomes has been linked to West Ham too, but according to the journalist, Tottenham and Man Utd are the two teams most likely to get this deal done.

“And there’s a lot of value to be had. And clubs in the Premier League in particular are chasing Gomes,” Jacobs said.

“And my expectation is, number one, he moves to the Premier League. And number two, there’s a strong likelihood that either Tottenham or Manchester United win the race for his signature. With Manchester United, it would be a return.

“And there’s nothing that advanced yet. They’ve not made the player a formal offer. But we can’t discount Manchester United, who would see value.

“And Manchester United are going to have to find value because, of course, their finances are very tight. But they’re not advanced at this point. But they might be come summer.

“Then you have Tottenham, who are more advanced. And the player is open to a move. So Spurs could be the ones that win the race for his signature.”

Players to re-sign for Manchester United

Gomes could be headed back to Manchester United, just a few years after leaving the club.

The England international was on United’s books as a youngster, but he left on a free transfer.

Gomes explained, via the BBC, that he left United to improve as a player.

“When I left [Manchester United] it was more the idea to better myself as a player and person,” said Gomes.

“Being on the journey I went through I knew eventually I’d be able to create a pathway to be in this position I’m in now.

“It was difficult leaving the club I was in since six and heading into the unknown really for me personally.

“From then it’s been an uphill trajectory, but also with a lot of difficulties and difficult moments going through it, but being in this position now makes it all worth it.”

Gomes has certainly kicked on since leaving United – he’s now an ‘amazing’ player who has even received caps for England.

Of course, if Gomes is to return to Old Trafford, he wouldn’t’ be the first player to return to United for a second spell.

Gomes will be on the move this summer, and it will be interesting to see which team he ends up joining.

The fee Daniel Levy is ready to sell Tottenham’s Cristian Romero for after ‘lowering’ his demands

Tottenham Hotspur vice-captain Cristian Romero’s future is up in the air.

The Argentine is one of the first names on Ange Postecoglou’s team sheet whenever he is fit, and he has produced some great performances for Spurs over the years.

However, Romero will enter the final two years of his contract this summer, and so far, there has been no agreement over an extension.

That has led to a lot of speculation about his future, with reports claiming that Tottenham are even ready to sell Romero once the transfer window opens.

Daniel Levy has lowered his demands to sell Tottenham star Cristian Romero

Romero has been regarded by Tottenham fans as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

On his day, the 26-year-old has the ability to go toe-to-toe against most attackers in the country, and he has proved that as well for Spurs in recent years.

However, Romero has had injury issues this season, and he has made a few big errors whenever he has played as well.

That is probably why reports have claimed that Tottenham are ready to sell Romero in the summer transfer window, with Atletico Madrid keen to sign him.

GiveMeSport have now shared some more details on Spurs’ stance on their star defender.

The report claims that the North Londoners previously made it clear to interested clubs that they would demand more than £60 million for Romero.

Now, it has been revealed that Daniel Levy and Tottenham are likely to listen to offers in the region of £45 million after ‘lowering their demands’.

How much Atletico Madrid are willing to bid for Romero

Atletico Madrid have spent big money on signings over the years.

Their outrageous expenditure on the likes of Thomas Lemar and Joao Felix is proof of that, but their valuation of Romero will anger Tottenham fans.

The report claims that Atletico Madrid are hoping to negotiate a deal worth £33 million to sign Romero this summer, which falls well below Spurs’ valuation.

We can’t see a world in which Levy will agree to sell Romero for anything close to that figure this summer.

It remains to be seen if Atleti will meet Spurs’ demands.

Fabrizio Romano shares what he can now ‘confirm’ about Tottenham and Tyler Dibling ahead of summer transfer window

Fabrizio Romano says £100m Premier League player is Tottenham’s ‘top target’ this summer - TBR Football
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be busy on the transfer front this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen his squad further.

Spurs have been busy over the last few transfer windows and it’s clear to see what Postecoglou is trying to do, but there’s still a lot of work to do.

Tottenham are currently looking at improving their attacking ranks, while also looking at more strength in depth in midfield.

One player Spurs are looking at is Tyler Dibling, who has made real name for himself at Southampton and has been one of the few shining lights for them this season.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he can “confirm” about Tottenham and Dibling ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.

Tyler Dibling said to be ‘top target’ for Tottenham this summer

With Southampton all-but relegated, there’s little chance that Dibling will stay put at St Mary’s Stadium amid interest from Premier League giants.

Tottenham are really keen on the 19-year-old, but Manchester City are also following the Southampton ace, according to Romano.

“At the moment, I can confirm that for Tottenham, he’s kind of their top target,” Romano wrote on GiveMeSport.

“They love the player, they would love to bring him in in the summer transfer window – but again, it’s not going to be super easy.

“Manchester City – let’s see, because City at the moment are following the player, but from what I have heard, they haven’t started any concrete conversation.”

TBR Football recently confirmed that Tottenham feel they are favourites to sign Dibling this summer.

Why Southampton are said to have annoyed Tottenham and other suitors over Tyler Dibling

It has been reported that Southampton want just over £100million for Dibling, using the fee Manchester City spent on Jack Grealish as a reference point.

The Saints’ lofty valuation of the England Under-21 international is apparently frustrating the likes of Spurs and City, as well as other Premier League clubs.

Dibling’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, so it’s not as though he’s entering the last 12 months of his deal.

However, Southampton’s leverage is reduced by their seemingly imminent relegation, so it remains to be seen whether they can get £100million-plus.

Dibling would certainly be a great addition for Tottenham though, thanks to his quality, high ceiling, and versatility.

The 19-year-old’s main position is on the right wing and, with Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski both struggling for consistency there, he could be an alternative.

Dibling has also played as a No. 10, a centre-forward, a central midfielder and even a defensive midfielder over the past 18 months for Southampton, at senior and youth level.

Major Cristian Romero transfer update emerges as Tottenham decide whether they want to sell him amid Atletico Madrid links

Tottenham have now decided whether they want to sell Cristian Romero amid Atletico Madrid links - TBR Football
Description

Atletico Madrid have made the signing of Cristian Romero one of their primary priorities in the summer.

Romero is assessing his future at Tottenham as Atletico Madrid are one of the many clubs who are interested in snapping the World Cup winner up in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur would naturally be aware that Diego Simeone’s side have all the pulling power to attract the Argentine towards a move to the Spanish capital — with Diego Simeone proving once again this season that he remains capable of helping them compete for trophies.

Furthermore, Romero wishes to play Champions League football and at Spurs, he will be unable to do so in the following campaign as they sit in 14th place in the Premier League.

The question every Tottenham supporter will be asking is whether the club are prepared to sell Cristian Romero, who remains one of their most important players.

As for Romero himself, a crucial factor that could attract him towards a move to Atletico Madrid is the fact that he can finally be recognised as one of the best defenders in Europe.

James Maddison thinks Romero is underrated to this day and perhaps a part of the reason that is the case is due to Spurs’ woes this season in particular.

It is imperative to keep in mind that Tottenham were prepare to extend Romero’s contract and make him their highest earner last month.

But journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed on GiveMeSport’s ‘Market Madness’ show that Tottenham are ready to sell Romero to Atletico Madrid after all: “I can tell you that Atletico Madrid have put the Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero on their list of options this summer and Tottenham’s position on a sale has now softened, so if we go back to the winter, Spurs were thinking of extending Romero.”

Jacobs also revealed that Atletico Madrid are looking to pay a fee of £33 million to sign Romero: “Now, as he heads towards two years left on his contract, Tottenham are prepared to sell and this is a move driven by Diego Simeone and I can tell you that Atletico Madrid have already made contact with the Romero camp and they’re looking to pay something in the region of €40 million or £33 million.”

“Now, Tottenham paid 43 million quid, so that’s €50 million and about six months ago when he was also being linked with Real Madrid, the price was about £60 million, €70 million. Now, it’s likely to be lower than that. But instead of it being Real Madrid, even though they are looking for a centre-back, my understanding is Atletico Madrid are the most serious suitor for Romero and there is a concrete possibility that Tottenham may be prepared to sell.”

Tottenham already have a Cristian Romero replacement in mind

For Ange Postecoglou, it would be ideal if Tottenham decide to keep Romero as it would be difficult to replace him if he does move to Atletico Madrid.

However, for every top club, it is especially crucial to have contingent plans in place just in case one of their stars players opts to leave.

With that being the case, Tottenham have been scouting Ousmane Diomande throughout the season and could be available for £50 million.

However, Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United are all keeping dabs on Diomande as well.

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur boast one of the fiercest rivalries in the English game, with both sides regularly vying for bragging rights in North London.

Although the Gunners have been the better side in terms of overall status and silverware, the form book tends to go out of the window in North London derbies.

In terms of red cards, Arsenal v Tottenham is the fourth fiercest derby in English football, with 16 red cards handed out in Premier League encounters since 1992.

However, there was one particular Spurs defender who was known for being world-class without being dirty, so much so that Thierry Henry once sung his praises.

Arsenal icon Thierry Henry said Tottenham legend Ledley King gave him a tough time without being dirty

The player in question is Ledley King, who shone for Tottenham between 1999 and 2012.

King made 323 competitive appearances for Spurs, along with winning 21 England caps, and received just nine yellow cards throughout his entire career.

Henry, speaking to The Independent in 2006, admitted that King gave him a tough time without even needing to be rough.

Considering Henry was in his prime around then, many defenders sought to nullify his threat by hook or by crook – but King didn’t need to do this.

“I don’t like defenders who hold the shirts of other players,” Henry said.

“The only defender here who doesn’t do that and sometimes still gets the ball off my feet easily is Ledley King.

“He is the only guy who doesn’t hold players. He will get the ball off you without you even noticing. For me, that is a good defender.

“He plays without any contact yet is somehow still strong and gets the ball without doing any fouls.”

Ledley King’s Tottenham career

King was born in Bow in 1980 and played for Senrab FC – the famous youth team which also gave the world the likes of Jermain Defoe, John Terry and Ezri Konsa – as a youngster.

The defender joined Tottenham as a trainee in July 1996 and progressed through the youth system before making his first-team debut in May 1999.

King made 323 competitive appearances for Spurs, registering 14 goals and eight assists, and lifted the 2008 League Cup, the last major trophy won by the Lilywhites.

Sadly, King was plagued by chronic knee problems later on in his career, with Harry Redknapp admitting in 2008 that the player didn’t have any cartilage in his left knee.

“There’s no cure,” The Guardian quoted Redknapp as saying. “There’s no cartilage, nothing to operate on. It’s just bone on bone. So it’s just a question of managing it.

“It swells up after games and it normally takes seven days to recover but having played on Monday night he’s had less time than usual.

“He rarely trains, he mostly just goes to the gym to keep himself ticking over. But not running or anything like that.

“But even if he only plays 20 games a season, he’s worth having because he’s so good we have a much better chance of winning.”

Harry Redknapp was recently asked to build a combined XI of his former players and today’s current crop of Spurs stars, and was asked to pick between King and Micky van de Ven.

‘Smart guy’ could follow Andoni Iraola to Tottenham this summer as Daniel Levy makes offer

"Smart guy" could follow Andoni Iraola to Tottenham this summer as Daniel Levy makes offer - TBR Football
Description

A lot could change at Tottenham this summer.

It very much feels as if Ange Postecoglou needs to – at least – reach the UEFA Europa League final this season if the Australian is to remain in charge, with Spurs embarrassingly sat 14th in the Premier League.

The Athletic are now claiming that Tottenham have made Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth their primary target if Postecoglou is sacked.

However, the Spaniard may not be the only new hire at Spurs, after Daniel Levy made an offer to Fabio Paratici.

Daniel Levy offers Fabio Paratici the chance to return to Tottenham

The Italian negotiator – who helped bring the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero to Spurs – has been out of work ever since FIFA banned him from football for 30 months due to false accounting at Juventus, a decision which prompted his resignation from his Director of Football role at Tottenham in April 2023.

Now – however – a story by Radio Rossonera claims that Levy has made a “rich” offer to Paratici in an attempt to lure him back to N17 ahead of AC Milan, who are also trying to hire the man from Borgonovo Val Tidone.

The Italian news outlet believe a meeting was held between the pair, and it is now up to the 52-year-old to make a decision.

TBR Football understand Paratici is leaning towards AC Milan – where he would be able to remain in his homeland.

What Ange Postecoglou has said about Fabio Paratici

If Postecoglou does remain at the helm and ends up working with Paratici, we would not anticipate any problems based on what the 59-year-old has previously said about him.

The man born in Greece said in January 2024: “Obviously I know Fabio and every now and then we’ll exchange messages or calls. He’s a smart guy and you can see that he’s got a great eye for talent.”
