When it rains, it pours, which is undoubtedly true for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
The North Londoners started last week with a real chance to make the final of the League Cup and into the fifth round of the FA Cup, but fast-forward to today, and they are out of both competitions.
Ange Postecoglou's side were demolished by Liverpool in the former and fell to a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the latter, meaning the team's only chance of silverware is the Europa League.
However, the Australian manager might not even have the chance to compete for that, as recent reports have linked the club to one of the most impressive managers on the continent, someone who's a proven winner in a top-five league.
Tottenham's manager search
Up to this point, the support Postecoglou has received from the Spurs board has been quite prominent, but following the last week of dismal displays, it is starting to feel like his time in the dugout is coming to an end.
At least that is the case according to a recent report out of Italy, which has revealed that Daniel Levy is now considering sacking the Australian at the end of the season and that three names are currently being mooted as replacements.
The first two are Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva, but the most exciting name of them all is Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi.
The report claims that Fabio Paratici, who remains an outside consultant to the club, is pushing for the board to make the Italian manager their number-one target for the summer.
While it would certainly be a coup for the Lilywhites, the fact his contract expires next year means it's not an impossibility.
Why Spurs should sign Inzaghi
So, if Levy and Co really are going to part ways with Postecoglou in the summer and bring in yet another head coach, why should it be Inzaghi?
Well, the simple answer is that he's a proven winner. Now, while that phrase may ring alarm bells in the minds of the fans, the Inter Milan boss won Serie A as recently as last season and remains in the title race this year.
In contrast, José Mourinho hadn't won a league for years when he was handed the reins in N17, although the same can't be said for Antonio Conte.
Moreover, on top of bringing the Scudetto to the black and blue half of the San Siro, he also led Lazio to the 2018/19 Italian Cup, which was only their fourth this century, so he knows how to pick up silverware with teams less accustomed to doing so.
On top of his title-winning pedigree, the Piacenza-born "genius" as dubbed by the legendary Thierry Henry, has proven that he can coach both a formidable defence and a devastating attack, as last season Inter had the most goals for and fewest against in the entire league.
Lastly, when we compare his statistics from his time with the Nerazzurri to Postecoglou's with Spurs, the difference is crystal clear.
For example, the Italian manager has won 127 of his 192 games in charge of Inter and has earned an average of 2.17 points per game, whereas the former Celtic boss has won just 39 of his 80 games in charge of the Lilywhites and has averaged just 1.60 points per game.
Ultimately, while he had some early success and has been undeniably unlucky with injuries, it looks like time has run out for Ange in North London, and while it might be challenging, Spurs should listen to Paratici and make Inzaghi their number-one target this summer.
