According to statistics, Brennan Johnson has now reached a major career milestone that Gareth Bale would be proud of after scoring a Tottenham brace against relegated Southampton.
There’s no denying that Brennan Johnson has taken his fair share of stick this season. A section of the Tottenham fanbase has been left frustrated with his one-on-one dribbling, or lack thereof, and his reluctance to track back when Spurs are out of possession.
Still, for all the moans about his flaws, Johnson has always had a knack for arriving in the right place at the right time.
His movement inside the box is instinctive, and he’s constantly looking to be available for low cutbacks and simple finishes.
That very quality was on display again on Sunday afternoon. As Djed Spence picked up the ball on the left flank, Johnson peeled away into space, timed his run perfectly, and slotted home the cutback to put Spurs ahead.

His second goal of the afternoon was a proper poacher’s effort. Johnson stayed just onside, anticipating a flicked header from James Maddison, before calmly tucking it past the keeper to seal his brace.
That double now sees him hit a personal milestone—ten Premier League goals in a single season for the first time in his career, as per Statmuse.

He has also become the first Welsh player to hit double figures in the Premier League since Gareth Bale did it for Tottenham back in the 2020/21 campaign.
Spurs top scorer Brennan Johnson praised by Ange Postecoglou
That brace against Southampton has now seen Brennan Johnson pull clear as Tottenham’s top scorer in the Premier League this season with 11 goals.
It’s a stat that might surprise some, but it underlines just how crucial he’s become to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The Spurs boss hasn’t shied away from praising the 23-year-old. Speaking after the match, Postecoglou labelled Johnson Tottenham’s most dangerous goal threat.
“It’s tough but I think whenever Brennan plays that he’s always a goal threat,” he said. “He has been really good for us in terms of goals and, even though I don’t rate them highly, even his assists have been important to us as today he won the penalty.”
Postecoglou will be banking on Johnson to keep that form going, especially with Spurs now pushing hard in Europe.
