Things aren’t looking good for Tottenham Hotspur. Already dealing with their own set of domestic problems on the pitch, the latest issue revolves around a transfer debacle involving their star player, Son Heung-min. The South Korean winger’s future is reportedly uncertain, as his contract is set to expire in the summer. This has left Son ‘aggrieved,’ as he may be looking at the exit door.
The upcoming summer also sees him complete his 10 years at the London-based club, having arrived in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen for £22 million ($23 million). But reaching this milestone is the least Heung-min is concerned about as the 32-year-old is allegedly frustrated over his future not being sorted out now.
That only saw former Spurs scout Bryan King express his disbelief over the delay in the new deal for their star winger. “This should have been sorted out three or four months ago,” King began during an exclusive chat with Tottenham News. “It is ridiculous. This is a player of quality who has given his football career to Tottenham. Since he joined the football club, up until the present day, there couldn’t have been a better servant.”

Ever since arriving in north London, Son has netted 169 goals and 90 assists in over 428 appearances. Of course, trophies haven’t been in his luck but the South Korean international has played a crucial role for the club. He has been favored by all the managers including Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Nuno Espírito Santo, and Jose Mourinho, who even dubbed him ‘Sonaldo.’
But Tottenham’s silence over his deal is very frustrating for Bryan King and questions whether Son would even consider staying at the club. “Watching the way he has played recently, I question whether 100 percent of his heart is still at Tottenham because I’d certainly feel aggrieved if I were him. I’m not sure whether Son is happy at the moment.”
“How many years has he been at the football club? And he’s been a star virtually from day one,” concluded King, doubting how things will be proceeding from here. While it is surely odd for Tottenham to delay giving a new contract to Son, there is a surprising development in his case!
Fabrizio Romano gives a crucial update on Son Heung-min and Tottenham Hotspur’s contract talk delay
The silence from Daniel Levy and Co. doesn’t mean they don’t intend to keep their star winger. In fact, renowned transfer guru Fabrizio Romano insists the club wants Son to spend his thirties in London. “The expectation is still to activate the option and keep Son at the club until June 2026. That’s the internal feeling at the club since October, waiting for formal steps as it’s always important,” reported Romano.

This would mean that the Spurs will reportedly activate the one-year option and then see how things go. Notably, so far in the current campaign under last season-hired boss Ange Postecoglou, he has made 20 appearances, notching 7 goals and 6 assists across the Premier League, EFL Cup, and Europa League.

The responsibility has somewhat grown more on him ever since Harry Kane’s departure. On top of that, Timo Werner and Richarlison haven’t been productive enough, both struggling to find the back of the net, with only Dominic Solanke proving reliable with his 6 goals so far. This makes it even more crucial for Tottenham to quickly resolve the situation with their star player.
