It’s crucial for the Citizens to refresh their squad after a complicated season. This is the internal message - also mentioned during Pep Guardiola’s press conferences - as they present plans for the near future.

Man City Want to Sign a New Full-Back

They are targeting Tottenham star Destiny Udogie

One of the positions to cover for sure will be full-back, as Man City already wanted to add one more player in January to replace Kyle Walker but they didn’t find the right financial or technical opportunity. In any case, even if AC Milan decide not to sign Walker on a permanent deal by triggering the buy option clause, Walker won’t be part of Manchester City's plans from next season.

The club is exploring alternative options on the market and sources tell us that one of the players appreciated internally at Manchester City is the Italian talent, Destiny Udogie.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Destiny Udogie has a contract at Tottenham Hotspur until 2030.

Udogie is highly-rated by people at Man City as he’s still very young, able to play on both wings and a physical player who has already proven himself in the Premier League at Tottenham Hotspur.

Man City’s new director Hugo Viana appreciates Udogie and was already following the player since he was at Udinese, when Spurs decided to invest in him with a move driven by Fabio Paratici.

Man City Face Battle to Sign Udogie

Tottenham consider him a 'crucial' player to the project

Now Manchester City are closely tracking Destiny’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window, even if they know it won’t be an easy deal for sure.

Spurs consider Udogie - described as 'untouchable' by the Italian media - one of the top young players they have in the squad, among the crucial ones to build a bright future at the club. Negotiations with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy are also well known to be very difficult, so Man City are aware of the situation.

It is the same for Italian clubs following Udogie’s situation, but they are probably not even able to match a realistic valuation for the player. Manchester City are conscious of how complicated this deal would be, but the appreciation for the player is considered strong and concrete.

Man City Also Targeting Andrea Cambiaso Again

The Italian was their top target in January

For sure, Udogie’s not the only player on the shortlist for the full-back position. Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus was the top target in January - he was considered too expensive then but Juventus could now open the door to an exit ahead of the summer transfer window, and so Cambiaso remains a strong and realistic candidate on Manchester City's list for that position.

The player was open to the move already in January while being committed to Juventus. He never asked to be sold but left it all in the club’s hands and the stance won’t change in the summer, so it really depends on the financial valuation.

Manchester City are likely to invest an important amount in a full-back in the summer. It is a position that is surely one to watch ahead of the window with Udogie now being monitored along with Cambiaso, who's still on the list.
