Chelsea 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur: Player Ratings and Match Highlights - GiveMeSport
Description

Chelsea defeated Tottenham 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Thursday evening and picked up a vital three points in their hunt for Champions League football.

The match got off to a chaotic start, and just 50 seconds in, Nicolas Jackson found himself in behind the Tottenham defence and after a sloppy melee between Jackson, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario, the ball hit the post and Spurs narrowly avoided an embarrassing start to the match.

In the opening 30 minutes, Spurs were unable to produce any real clear-cut chances, however, Chelsea had produced a few of them and probably should've found themselves one or two nil up if it wasn't for poor end product and poor decision making from the Chelsea front line. Jadon Sancho saw a lot of the ball and looked dangerous, but when he got into the box, he seemed to panic and lose the ball.

Right before half time, the home side almost broke the deadlock, but Vicario produced a world-class save to deny Sancho's powerful effort from close range. Just a minute after Sancho's close effort, a huge scuffle took place after Cristian Romero bundled Levi Colwill to the ground despite the game not being in play. Despite the incident taking place between Romero and Colwill, all eyes were on Trevoh Chalobah and Rodrigo Bentancur, who had to be held apart by their teammates.

The first half ended goalless with both teams level, but it certainly wasn't an uneventful first 45 minutes.

Just five minutes into the second half, Enzo Fernandez headed the ball into the back of the net to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead. The Argentine's header was relatively simple and all he had to do was head in on target, but all the credit should go to Cole Palmer for the picture-perfect cross he put in. The Englishman looked pretty lively up to this point and it is moments of magic like that which make him such an asset to Chelsea.

Shortly after taking a 1-0 lead, Chelsea thought they had doubled their lead when Moises Caicedo smashed a beautiful volley into the bottom corner, but the Ecuadorian's strike was ruled out for offside after a lengthy VAR review.

VAR played yet another part in the match in the 69th minute when Pape Sarr, just five minutes after coming on, had the ball in the back of the net after striking the ball from distance, but the Senegal international saw his strike disallowed due to a foul on Caicedo in the lead up to the goal. It went from bad to worse for Sarr as not only did his goal get chalked off, he was booked for the foul.

The rest of the match was contested in fiery fashion, but nothing significant happened and it ended 1-0 to Chelsea, with the visitors picking up a huge three points.

Match Highlights

Chelsea Player Ratings

GK: Robert Sanchez - 7.5/10

Didn't have much to do in terms of saves for most of the match but produced a really good save towards the end of the match to deny Son.

RB: Malo Gusto - 6/10

Had lots of energy up and down the right flank throughout the match, but his end product in terms of crosses into the box was poor.

CB: Trevoh Chalobah - 7.5/10

Almost had an assist to his name after just one minute from a dangerous over-the-top ball he fed through to Jackson. Chalobah's passing out of defence was very good and looked calm and assured defensively.

CB: Levi Colwill - 7/10

Good with the ball at his feet and made a few good clearances and blocks. The Englishman cost his side a 2-0 lead after being caught offside in the build-up to Caicedo's disallowed goal.

LB: Marc Cucurella - 7.5/10

Looked like he had a tough night in store for him after going up against Odobert for the first few times, but the Spaniard kept his head in the game and shut him down for the rest of the match and was defensively very good.

CM: Moises Caicedo - 8/10

A formidable, energetic presence in midfield. The Ecuadorian was strong in the tackle, tidy on the ball and didn't stop working hard for the entire match.

CM: Enzo Fernandez - 8/10

Tidy and safe with the ball at his feet and managed to get himself on the scoresheet with a simple but good header.

AM: Cole Palmer - 8.5/10 (Man of the Match)

A thorn in the side of Spurs all evening. Palmer provided a beautiful cross for Fernandez's headed goal and looked almost unstoppable when he broke with the ball and used his pace and skill on the counter.

RW: Pedro Neto - 6.5/10

Put some decent crosses into the box but other than that, Neto didn't have too much significant involvement in the match.

ST: Nicolas Jackson - 7.5/10

Utilized his pace and strength really well and was a nightmare for both Romero and van de Ven to deal with at times.

LW: Jadon Sancho - 5/10

Looked lively with the ball at his feet at times but just couldn't make anything significant happen.

SUB: Noni Madueke - 7/10

Replaced Sancho well and looked to threaten the Spurs defence with his dribbling and pace.

SUB: Reece James - N/A

Didn't do much after coming on.

SUB: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall - N/A

Didn't do much after coming on.

SUB: Tosin Adarabioyo - N/A

Didn't do much after coming on.

Tottenham Player Ratings

GK: Guglielmo Vicario - 7/10

Had a really shaky and erratic start to the match but eventually calmed him down and made a few good saves.

RB: Djed Spence - 7/10

Had a really energetic performance both offensively and defensively. Spence defended against Sancho really well and was a threat when breaking forward also.

CB: Cristian Romero - 6/10

Looked the most erratic of the Spurs back line. Romero was caused problems by Jackson's physicality, and at times, he couldn't handle the Senegalese international.

CB: Micky van de Ven - 7/10

Was solid defensively but was caused problems by Jackson at times. The Dutchman was withdrawn close to the end of the match after looking like he had potentially picked up another injury.

LB: Destiny Udogie - 6/10

Caused Chelsea problems, particularly in the first half with his dangerous runs and crosses into the box, but he failed to continue to be as much of a threat in the second half.

CM: Rodrigo Bentancur - 6/10

Didn't produce anything noteworthy during the match. The Uruguayan was safe in possession of the ball but also looked off the pace of the match when pressing and defending.

CM: Lucas Bergvall - 7.5/10

Had some really tidy moments with the ball at his feet and worked really hard for his side. Despite putting in a good performance, the Swede was controversially taken off after 64 minutes.

CM: James Maddison - 5.5/10

Was quite easily dealt with by the Chelsea midfield and back line. Maddison got on the ball quite a bit but didn't make anything happen creatively.

RW: Wilson Odobert - 6/10

Caused some problems for Cucurella at times when he dribbled at him and used his pace but he got more predictable as the match went on and was substituted.

ST: Dominic Solanke - 5/10

Hardly had any involvement in the match, and even though he worked hard, he looked isolated up front on his own all evening.

LW: Heung-Min Son - 6/10

Just like Odobert, Son looked dangerous at times but looked to fade as the match went on and his threat diminished. Even when he got into good positions to shoot, Son looked timid and hesitant to shoot.

SUB: Pape Sarr - 6/10

Aside from having a goal disallowed, Sarr didn't do much after being brought on.

SUB: Brennan Johnson - 6.5/10

Brought lots of energy into the match for his side. The Welshman immediately got into the game and utilised his pace and directness but couldn't produce anything of any note.

SUB: Pedro Porro - N/A

Didn't do much after coming on.

SUB: Mathys Tel - N/A

Didn't do much after coming on.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur are open to offers for Richarlison this summer amid growing interest from clubs in Brazil, according to GOAL.

The 27-year-old forward is reportedly being closely monitored by Palmeiras, Fluminense and Flamengo ahead of the upcoming transfer window and is ‘open’ to a departure from North London three years after joining from Everton.

While Richarlison would prefer to continue his career in Europe, he is ready to listen to offers from all interested clubs as he aims to recapture his best form following an injury-hit season.

The Brazil international has made just 14 appearances under Ange Postecoglou this term and is currently recovering from a knee injury.

Richarlison ‘Open’ to Spurs Departure

Clubs in Brazil are keen on the 27-year-old

According to GOAL, Richarlison’s future at Tottenham looks far from certain at this stage of the season, with at least three clubs in Brazil showing strong interest in a summer move.

The 27-year-old, praised as ‘exceptional’, was approached by all three clubs in the January transfer window but remained intent on seeing out the season in North London.

He could reportedly reconsider his stance in June, despite having two years remaining on his £130,000-a-week contract.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Richarlison has scored three goals and provided one assist in 14 appearances this season.

Tottenham are expected to part ways with several first-team players this summer, as Ben Davies, Sergio Reguilon, Fraser Forster and Alfie Whiteman’s contracts are expiring.

Decisions are also yet to be made on Mathys Tel and Timo Werner’s futures, as their loans include options to buy.

While the jury is still out on Tel, Werner is most likely headed for departure after struggling to impress, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

Tottenham are heading for their worst Premier League finish since the 2003/04 season, when they finished 14th, as they currently sit in the same position with nine games remaining in the season.

Exclusive: Tottenham 'Determined' to Keep £50m Star Amid Serie A Interest - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are determined to keep hold of Dejan Kulusevski this summer, despite early indications of interest from Napoli and AC Milan, sources have told GIVEMESPORT.

The 24-year-old attacker, who has been a regular starter under boss Ange Postecoglou this season, is emerging as a target for both Italian clubs ahead of the fast-approaching summer transfer window.

While growing admiration from Serie A appears genuine, Tottenham have no intention of making things easy for any suitors. Kulusevski - who has been described as 'outstanding' by talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor - remains a key figure in the north Londoners' plans, and they could even price him out of a move if necessary.

Spurs Will Slap Hefty Price Tag on Kulusevski

North Londoners do not want to lose Sweden international in summer

With Kulusevski's contract running until the summer of 2028, Tottenham hold the leverage in any negotiations that may be attempted. Any potential deal would require an offer well in excess of £50million.

Sources suggest that a realistic starting point for his valuation could be what Napoli received for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia - and that Kulusevski’s proven ability in the Premier League would also have to be factored in.

While the prospect of a return to Italy may appeal to the Sweden international at some stage, there is no indication yet that he is yearning for a move. He is currently sidelined through injury and Tottenham hope they do not receive any form of enquiry about a sale.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Dejan Kulusevski has found the back of the net seven times in the Premier League this season, despite having an expected goals ratio of 4.09

The links to AC Milan are particularly strong due to the influence of former Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici, who is at the centre of a tug-of-war between the two clubs right now.

Meanwhile, Napoli’s interest would hold the added factor of a potential reunion with Antonio Conte. Tottenham have trophy ambitions on the pitch this season, but off it, they will be just as determined to keep hold of the players they want to retain.

Tottenham Hotspur are among a host of Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Lyon attacker Rayan Cherki, according to TBR Football.

The Lilywhites, along with Aston Villa and Newcastle United, are believed to be showing strong interest in the 21-year-old, who has less than 15 months remaining on his contract in France.

Cherki is expected to leave Lyon in the summer transfer window amid growing interest from clubs across Europe and could be available for less than £25m.

He was linked with a Premier League move last summer – Fulham even made an offer for him, while Crystal Palace also showed interest.

Tottenham Tracking Rayan Cherki

Among Premier League clubs keen

According to TBR Football, Tottenham have asked to be kept informed about Cherki’s situation closer to the summer as they look to bolster their squad with another promising young talent.

The Lilywhites added Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray last summer, while Mathys Tel arrived on loan in January and could join permanently after the season.

A £25m move for Cherki would represent exceptional value, as the 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most promising players in his position and was once even compared to Lionel Messi.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Cherki has scored eight goals and provided 18 assists in 35 appearances this season.

The France U21 international leads the Europa League in assists this campaign, while he ranks second in Ligue 1, only behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele.

Cherki extended his contract with Lyon last summer, but only until June 2026, making a summer exit increasingly likely.

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Cherki is among several Ligue 1 players Tottenham are considering, including Lille ace Jonathan David and Nice star Evann Guessand.

Description

Tottenham have held talks with the representatives of Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane about a free transfer move this summer, according to TBR Football.

The Germany international has been regarded as one of the top forwards in Europe for several seasons now, but his current contract with the Bundesliga giants is due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Talks are ongoing with Bayern over a renewal but as time ticks away, Spurs have now made a move to convince the former Man City star to return to the Premier League.

Tottenham Hold Talks for Sane Deal

Player open to a pay-cut

The 29-year-old is one of Bayern Munich's highest earners currently, bringing in around £320,000-per-week, and the Bundesliga outfit are keen to cut their wage bill down ahead of the summer window.

Sane is in talks about staying at the Allianz Arena beyond this season, but Tottenham have held talks with his representatives to find out if he would be open to a return to the Premier League with the north London club.

But while Sane initially wanted to move on at the end of the season, he is now more inclined to stay in Germany and that has stopped Tottenham tabling a formal offer.

It had been reported that Sane was even willing to consider taking a pay-cut if he were to leave, but it now seems more likely that he will follow in the footsteps of Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala in extending his stay in Bavaria.

Spurs are looking at strengthening their forward options this summer amid concerns over the long-term future of captain Heung-Min Son, and Son would undoubtedly fill that gap with goals and assists from a winger.

Chelsea v Tottenham Predicted Starting Lineups for Premier League Match Amid Palmer Update

Chelsea v Tottenham Predicted Starting Lineups for Premier League Match Amid Palmer Update - GiveMeSport
Description

Chelsea and Tottenham will go head-to-head in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night with both sides hoping to find a way of securing Champions League football next season.

Enzo Maresca's side have been in indifferent form in recent weeks and fell to a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal before the international break. Ange Postecoglou's side on the other hand have just two wins in their last six in all competitions and were well beaten by Fulham in their last game.

Both sides have got injury concerns to deal with too ahead of this match up, and this is how GIVEMESPORT expect the teams to line up.

Chelsea Team News

Palmer back in training

The Blues were without key man Cole Palmer for the defeat to Arsenal and the playmaker missed the subsequent international break with England too, but he has now returned to training and should be fit to return.

Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson have also returned to action after hamstring injuries but they may not be risked from the start. Mykhailo Mudryk is still unavailable too.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Maresca shared an update on his squad for the game.

"Cole [Palmer] is back, he is ok. He is better. Noni [Madueke] is better and Nico [Jackson] is better. They are all good.

"It is very good [to have them back]. We have said many times, that this is a game for the players and when they are not there or different reasons, you struggle. It’s exactly what happened to us this season, we had six unbelievable months and then six or seven injuries in a row. Then we lost something. But it will be good to finish [the season] with all of them.

"The reason why he [Palmer] was not with the international team was the day before Arsenal, he had a muscle problem that was not a big issue but didn’t allow him to play the Arsenal game and join his international team.

"We always say that going with the international team is the best thing for a player, but overall, some days off for Cole and for the rest was a good thing.

"Romeo [Lavia] has suffered a small setback. He was doing better in terms of progress but then unfortunately one or two days ago he had a small problem. We will see in the next hours [how long he’s out for].”

Chelsea Predicted XI

Jackson to return to the side

Chelsea Predicted XI: Sanchez; James, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Sancho, Palmer, Neto; Jackson.

Chelsea Predicted Substitutes: Jorgensen (GK), Gusto (DEF), Tosin (DEF), Chalobah (DEF), Dewsbury-Hall (MID), Amougou (MID), George (FWD), Nkunku (FWD), Madueke (FWD).

Palmer is fit to return and could find himself in his preferred right-wing role, with Maresca likely to bring Nicolas Jackson back into the lineup too, meaning £365,000-a-week trio Madueke, Tosin and Nkunku are to be benched.

Tottenham Team News

Kulusevski still 'weeks' away

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealing with a host of injuries all season long but manager Postecoglou could be set to welcome back the vast majority of players.

Richarlison and Lucas Bergvall are back in training, but Kevin Danso and Dejan Kulusevski are still "weeks" away from a return to action with hamstring and foot injuries respectively.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou shared an update on his squad.

"Kevin [Danso] and Deki [Kulusevski] are working hard still, they’re probably a couple of weeks away, but both are progressing well.

"Richy’s training with the group, again, it's about when we reintroduce him to the matchday squad, but he's training with the main training group, which is positive.

"Lucas [Bergvall] is fine. He had a bit of an illness, picked up a bug, but he got back at the weekend and got straight back into training.

“It was a good international break for us. Firstly, obviously no-one picked up anything, which is important, but also some guys got some game time which we felt was going to be important, guys like (Cristian) Romero, Destiny (Udogie), Matty Tel, Wilson (Odobert) and all these guys who missed a lot of football recently all got some good game time.

"The ones who played all did relatively well, they're all back and we’ve had a strong training group in the last couple of days.”

Tottenham Predicted XI

Maddison benched

Tottenham Predicted XI: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Sarr; Johnson, Bergvall, Son; Solanke.

Tottenham Predicted Substitutes: Kinsky (GK), Gray (DEF), Davies (DEF), Spence (DEF), Bissouma (MID), Maddison (MID), Tel (FWD), Odobert (FWD), Richarlison (FWD).

Description

Southampton starlet Tyler Dibling reportedly came under a secret bid from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, according to BBC Sport - which could be revisited in the summer, given that Daniel Levy has undergone a personal scouting mission for the former Chelsea youngster.

Dibling has arguably been Southampton's best player in their otherwise treacherous season in the Premier League, which has seen them rack up just nine points throughout the campaign and are still in with a shout of beating Derby County's 11-point record back in 2007/08. His bravery and fearless performances have sparked the interest of various clubs - but it was Tottenham who made the plunge for him in January, albeit with a rejected offer.

Report: Tottenham Had Secret Tyler Dibling Bid Rejected in January

Spurs ended up signing Mathys Tel instead

The report by BBC Sport states that Dibling's future is set to lie with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham or Bayern Munich, who are all reportedly set to enter a summer 'saga' for his services.

But BBC's sources close to Southampton have also claimed that the Saints turned down an unreported £35million bid from Tottenham for his signature - whilst RB Leipzig also had a £40m bid rejected, as Ivan Juric's side wanted £55million for the youngster if they were to prise him away from St. Mary's, having been dubbed as 'incredible' for his rise to the first-team.

Ange Postecoglou brought Mathys Tel in via an 11th-hour bid from Bayern on a loan with an option-to-buy deal, and that may well have been because Dibling's deal didn't go through, thus opting for the young French international instead.

GMS sources previously told how Daniel Levy had been on a personal scouting mission of the England youngster, who has burst onto the scene in the Premier League as opposed to being given his opportunities in the Championship last season - and that may prompt more interest from Spurs' side in the summer when Southampton are finally relegated to the second-tier.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Tyler Dibling has 31 youth caps for England, scoring five goals.

The south coast club currently sit 20 points adrift of relegation with just 27 points to play for, and if they fail to take two points from Crystal Palace and Tottenham over the next week, they'll be relegated if Wolverhampton Wanderers can pick up a win against Ipswich Town on Saturday - signalling one of the earlier relegations in the league's history.

Fabrizio Romano Shares Fresh Update on Cristian Romero Leaving Tottenham

Fabrizio Romano Shares Fresh Update on Cristian Romero Leaving Tottenham - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur's backline could be ravaged in the coming months, Fabrizio Romano has told GIVEMESPORT via his transfer newsletter - with star centre-back Cristian Romero potentially being on his way out of the club in the summer transfer window amid reported interest from Real Madrid.

Romero joined Tottenham in August 2021, joining from Atalanta on a season-long loan with an option to buy - and, after a solid campaign for the Lilywhites, his move was made permanent the following summer. He's since been a dependable member under all of Tottenham's managers in that time, having had Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou in the dugout throughout his time in north London - but that has seen other clubs linked, notably Real Madrid.

Romano: Cristian Romero Exit 'a Possibility' for Tottenham

The Argentine defender has been in fine form for the club

The Spanish giants have reportedly been told that they need to pay over £100million for the Argentine to prise him from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in what could be one of the summer's biggest transfer sagas.

And Romano has revealed that whilst Romero's exit is a possibility, it also depends on chairman Daniel Levy's willingness to let him leave - with the Englishman being notorious for dragging out huge fees for his players. Romano told GIVEMESPORT in his transfer newsletter:

"It’s a possibility but not something guaranteed as it depends on Daniel Levy, and we know how strong Spurs are in negotiations.

"So it’s something possible, definitely; but it has to be an important financial package or Levy won’t accept anything."

Tottenham's season went horribly wrong whilst Romero was out of action this season. With the Argentine having been in Tottenham's ranks for their first 11 games of the Premier League campaign, it saw the club win five and draw one of those games, though they did lose five in that time.

But with Romero being ruled out for their following 16 games, Tottenham only won a further five - including a torrid run of just one draw and six losses in seven games through the New Year period before an eventual win at Brentford.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Cristian Romero has 42 caps for Argentina, scoring three goals in the process.

Romero's return has yet to coincide with a win just yet, but he will be vital for Postecoglou or whoever their new boss is heading into the future and Tottenham must do all they can to turn bids down for his services.

Description

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has held talks with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone over a potential move to the Spanish capital, according to Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The Argentine has reportedly emerged as a ‘priority’ target for Atletico in the upcoming transfer window and is ‘excited’ by the prospect of joining forces with Simeone after the season.

While club-to-club negotiations have yet to take place, personal terms are not expected to be an issue, as discussions have already occurred between Romero’s representatives and Atletico.

Tottenham, however, see Romero as ‘untransferable’, with chairman Daniel Levy particularly keen to retain him beyond the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Cristian Romero Wants Atletico Move

Holds talks with Diego Simeone

According to Tavolieri, Tottenham could demand up to €80m (£67m) for Romero amid growing interest from top European clubs.

The 2022 World Cup winner was linked with Real Madrid earlier this year, and now Atletico have emerged as another potential destination ahead of the summer window.

The Spanish giants are expected to reinforce their central defence this offseason, as Axel Witsel and Cesar Azpilicueta’s contracts are expiring, while Clement Lenglet is set to return to Barcelona once his loan spell ends.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Romero has made 17 appearances for Tottenham this season, scoring once in the Premier League.

Romero has endured an injury-hit campaign in North London, missing nearly three months of action with toe and hamstring issues.

The 26-year-old returned to action just before March’s international break and captained Ange Postecoglou’s team twice against Fulham and Bournemouth.

Tottenham are on course to finish outside the Premier League’s top 10 for the first time since the 2007/08 season, as they sit 14th in the table with nine games remaining.

The Lilywhites return to top-flight action on Thursday night, traveling to Stamford Bridge for a clash with Chelsea.

Fabrizio Romano Shares Postecoglou Sack Update out of Tottenham

Fabrizio Romano Shares Postecoglou Sack Update out of Tottenham - GiveMeSport
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have yet to make a decision on Ange Postecoglou’s future as they remain focused on finishing the season on a positive note, Fabrizio Romano has revealed in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT column.

The Australian tactician has been heavily linked with a North London exit in recent weeks amid Tottenham’s disappointing domestic campaign, but Spurs are not rushing into a decision just yet.

The Lilywhites are on course to finish outside the Premier League’s top 10 for the first time since the 2007/08 season, currently sitting 14th with nine games remaining.

Having already crashed out of both cup competitions, Tottenham’s season now hinges on winning the Europa League and, according to Romano, this could be a key factor in Postecoglou’s chances of keeping his job at the club.

Tottenham Yet to Decide on Postecoglou

Europa League win could save his job

Romano, writing exclusively for GIVEMESPORT, has revealed that if Tottenham fail to win the Europa League or at least show improvement, there is a high chance Postecoglou will be replaced after the season:

“Sources at the club guarantee that no decision has been made so far as there’s still an important competition ongoing: the path to the Europa League final doesn’t look impossible for Tottenham Hotspur, with the club feeling they can make something special happen.

“Ange Postecoglou’s hopes to keep his job at Spurs are now strictly linked to performances in Europe.

“Winning the trophy would be an important achievement of course – it’d also mean Champions League football next season and the opportunity for Postecoglou to continue his project at Spurs.

“But if Spurs are not able to win the Europa League or even show their best version until the very end, there is a high possibility to see a managerial change at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.”

Postecoglou took charge of Spurs in the summer of 2023 and led them to a fifth-place Premier League finish in his first season, winning 20 games.

Fast forward nearly 12 months, Tottenham are now on course for their lowest league finish since the 2003/04 season, when they also ended up 14th.

They have won just four league games since the start of December and are winless in their last three ahead of Thursday’s clash with Chelsea.
