Tottenham Hotspur are considering a summer move for Chelsea defender Renato Veiga, journalist Pete O’Rourke has reported.
The Lilywhites are on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer amid Cristian Romero’s uncertain future in North London and are believed to have identified Veiga as an option.
Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a quick profit on the Portuguese international this summer and want around £30m, more than double the £12m fee they paid Basel last year.
Veiga is spending the second part of the season on loan at Juventus but is unlikely to remain in Italy, as no buy option was included in the January deal with Chelsea.
Tottenham Weighing up Veiga Offer
Summer deal with Chelsea seems unlikely
According to O’Rourke, Tottenham have fairly slim chances of signing Veiga this summer, as Chelsea rarely do business with their fierce London rivals.
The last time a senior player moved between the two clubs was goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini in 2009, when he joined Spurs on a free transfer.
Veiga made 18 appearances for Chelsea before departing on loan but was mostly a part of Enzo Maresca’s B squad, with only one Premier League start to his name.
The 'incredible' 20-year-old has been a regular for Juventus since arriving in January, starting seven times in Serie A and once in the Champions League.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Veiga has won four senior caps for Portugal to date.
Tottenham are anticipating a busy offseason amid a disappointing Premier League campaign, with Ange Postecoglou’s future now a major point of concern.
The Australian is likely to depart Spurs even if they win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League, with potential successors already being lined up.
