Manchester City have added Tottenham Hotspur full-back Destiny Udogie to their list of potential transfer targets, Fabrizio Romano has revealed in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT column.
The reigning Premier League champions are eyeing reinforcements for their back four after the season and are now exploring alternative options to Juventus ace Andrea Cambiaso.
Udogie is believed to have emerged as a possible candidate and is one of the players rated highly by City’s new sporting director Hugo Viana, who has kept a close eye on the 22-year-old since his time at Udinese.
However, a summer deal for the Italian remains difficult – Spurs reportedly consider Udogie ‘untouchable’ and one of the top young players in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
According to Romano, Man City see the upcoming transfer window as crucial to their plans under Pep Guardiola and are prepared to invest heavily to bolster their underperforming squad.
While Kevin De Bruyne’s departure could force them into the market for midfield reinforcements, fresh arrivals at full-back are also expected, with Kyle Walker not seen as part of City’s plans, even if he returns from his loan spell at AC Milan.
Although Cambiaso, who was targeted by the Cityzens in January, remains one of their top targets, Udogie’s name could also come into contention, but City are aware that pursuing a deal would mean difficult negotiations with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
Udogie has endured an injury-hit season at Spurs and was forced to miss a month of action due to a hamstring issue, before returning to the first-team picture in mid-February.
The 22-year-old has made 29 appearances across all competitions this term, including 23 in the Premier League, and registered one assist in a 4-1 win over West Ham in October.
