The 76-year-old monarch showed off his sporting prowess on Wednesday while visiting Tottenham Hotspur's stadium to celebrate the club's community outreach programs and its partnership with the National Football League.

After a quick tutorial from Washington Commanders defensive end Efe Obada and NFL global flag ambassador Phoebe Schecter, the King was cheered as he threw a pass with his right arm.

Encouraged to take on the role of quarterback, he then aimed for a net with hoop targets, showcasing his technique in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Obada was full of praise for the King's efforts.

"I loved his energy, the fact that he came in here willing to get stuck in," the 32-year-old Briton said.

"His technique was immense. I wanted him to get a hoop, in the target, but he was just having a good time.

"We talked about the NFL and he's a fan. He’s going to watch the games."

Inside the stadium, the King spent time with community groups and local businesses benefiting from Tottenham Hotspur's outreach programs.

Among those he met were students from the London Academy of Excellence Tottenham (LAET), a state-funded sixth form that prioritises local students from disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as individuals supported by The King's Trust, the youth charity he established in 1976.

Gina Moffatt, 48, an ex-offender who rebuilt her life with support from the charity and now runs a thriving restaurant in Tottenham that employs 15 full-time staff, enthusiastically welcomed the monarch.

"I'm so excited that you're even back in Tottenham, this year’s looking all good, Tottenham Hotspur's doing great stuff,” she told him.

"We've got Beyoncé coming but you're bigger than Beyoncé."

Beyoncé is set to perform at the stadium for six nights in June.

Outside on the pitch, schoolchildren eagerly chanted, "We want the King", erupting into cheers when he arrived.

He observed a demonstration by young participants in The Huddle Project, a youth initiative launched in 2023 by Tottenham Hotspur, the NFL and Nike.

Before departing, the King was presented with a replica of Tottenham’s original golden cockerel statue.

He also received an official football from Super Bowl LIX, which took place in New Orleans on Sunday.

Former Tottenham star and club ambassador Ledley King told The Times: "It's fantastic to have the King here.

"There is a lot of great work going on in the community and it's great to have him here at the stadium to see what goes on."
