Millwall are set to land a key summer transfer target following his release from a Premier League club.

Tottenham Hotspur star Japhet Tanganga is set to rejoin Championship outfit Millwall following his release from the North London club at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The defender spent the back end of last season on loan with the Lions and became a key player under Neil Harris as the club fought relegation. Tanganga made 18 league appearances with Millwall, bagging two crucial goals against Southampton and Birmingham City.

Taking to social media platform X on Saturday, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth wrote: "Millwall have agreed a deal for the signing of defender Japhet Tanganga. Tanganga will have a medical on Monday. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall. Tanganga joins as a free agent following his release from Tottenham last month."

It is reported that the defender will put pen to paper on a two-year deal at The Den in a major coup for Millwall.

The Championship club had appeared to have wrapped up a permanent deal for the former Tottenham Hotspur defender in May but that then fell through amid reports that the defender wanted to consider all the options available to him - Ipswich Town and Luton Town had also been linked with interest.

Speaking about his future earlier this year, Tanganga had said: “My focus is to build on from my spell at Millwall, with the number of games I played. You want to be in a position where you’re playing week in, week out, so whether that’s at Spurs or somewhere else, that is something that needs to be discussed in the future and we’ll see where we go from there.”

Tanganga had also shared his excitement to work with Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur, praising his brand of football but that was before his release was confirmed.
