Newcastle United were beaten 4-1 at home by AFC Bournemouth this weekend. Bruno Guimarães got their goal against the Cherries.
Eddie Howe’s side will want to bounce back from their disappointing loss as soon as possible. In the meantime, here is a look at some of the latest news and rumours coming out of the club...
Newcastle United update regarding Baris Yilmaz
Newcastle have been linked with a move for Galatasaray attacker Baris Yilmaz along with Everton, West Ham and Aston Villa. The 24-year-old has caught the eye in the Super Lig this season.
However, in this latest update regarding his future by Turkish news outlet Fotospor, his current club have no plans to let him leave this month and plan to keep hold of him. The report claims Lazio have also looked into landing him.
Yilmaz, who is a Turkey international with 24 caps under his belt so far in his career, impressed at Euro 2024 in Germany last year. He is under contract in Istanbul until 2027.
He had spells as a youngster at Rize İl Özel İdarespor, Ankara Demirspor and Ankara Keçiörengücü before rocking up at Galatasaray as a relative unknown back in 2021. The winger has since become one of their most prized assets though and has scored 22 goals in 136 games in all competitions, 11 of which have come in this campaign.
Newcastle could see him as someone to boost their attacking ranks. They have until the end of the January transfer window to bring in some players.
Tottenham Hotspur snubbed Newcastle United ace Alexander Isak
Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa apparently turned down the chance to sign Alexander Isak in the past. The Sweden international has been a standout player for Newcastle this term as they chase down European football.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has told Tottenham News: “It is the same with Isak – Tottenham could have signed Isak when he was at AIK Fotboll. I spoke to scouts at Spurs who had put dossiers together on Isak. Again, the recruitment staff at Tottenham at the time obviously ignored the possibility that Isak could be a successful player in the Premier League.
“Borussia Dortmund then came in and paid good money for him – around £6million. I was at Aston Villa and sat with people at Tottenham who were watching him, as I was. You might have thought he was a bit lightweight, but he was a good size, very quick and as far as I knew, Tottenham were far more interested than Aston Villa were.”
Isak, who is 25-years-old, linked up with the Toon Army back in 2022 and hasn’t looked back since. He has scored 52 goals in 90 games and is one of the most prolific forwards in the world right now.
Howe will be keen to keep hold of him for as long as possible. Newcastle are back in action next Saturday with an away trip down south to face a Southampton side who are bottom of the league.
