Manchester City and Manchester United return to Premier League action in midweek after both clubs secured progress in the FA Cup over the weekend. City breezed to an 8-0 win over Salford City while United beat Arsenal on penalties at the Emirates Stadium after drawing 1-1 after extra time.
The Red Devils win was made more impressive by the fact Diogo Dalot was sent off early in the second half. Both clubs have been linked with a number of players during the transfer window. City are looking to strengthen after a disastrous run of form left them well off the pace in the title race while United are currently restricted to loans unless they can secure deals for players to leave the club.
Out of the Manchester clubs, City are first up this week as they travel to Brentford on Tuesday night while United host Southampton at Old Trafford on Thursday.
Spurs ‘interested’ in Rashford
Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to show an interest in United forward Marcus Rashford. The North London outfit are reportedly investigating the feasibility of a loan move for the United academy graduate who looks set to leave Old Trafford. The Independent reports that a move will only be possible if United agree to cover part of Rashford’s wages, as Spurs cannot afford to put the player on their wage bill.
Rashford revealed last month he was ready for a new challenge and was not involved on Sunday as United won at Arsenal. After the game Amorim said: “I don’t know. We will see. He’s a player for Manchester United, we will see, he has to work, he has to represent his club, and he loves this club but I have to make choices. I already spoke about how I make choices. Let’s continue, let’s see the next game and I have to make a selection.”
West Ham are another Premier League club to be linked with the forward while there’s serious interest from abroad from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
Man City deal close
Manchester City have reached an agreement with Palmeiras to sign teenage defender Vitor Reis, according to Fabrizio Romano. The transfer reporter said on X: “Vitor Reis to Manchester City, here we go! Verbal agreement reached right now with Palmeiras on package under €40m fee... and City want it to be IMMEDIATE transfer! Vitor Reis, set for medical and contract signing as soon as clubs will check all documents.”
Pep Guardiola is keen to revamp his squad after admitting he neglected to do so during the summer window. "I always said in the summer time - the club thought about doing it - and I said: 'No, I don't want to make any signings.’ I rely on the team and I want to stay with them. Just Savio came, Gundo back - I wasn't expecting that at the end - but he came back and just Savio came. And I said, because I rely a lot with these guys and I thought still I can do it again, do it again with those guys and do it. But after the injuries, wow, maybe we should have done it."
